We hit the buffet today, since I had the pick of where to eat and I hadn’t been here before. The initial impression was that the seating was a bit cramped, and if you are seated anywhere near the register, you will have people’s butts practically hovering over your table while they wait to pay. My take on the buffet is a follows: The little identification signs may not always be correct. My favorite item on the buffet today was a yellowish dish that the sign said was Aloo Baingan, but there was no potato or egg plant in it. Whatever it was, I loved it. There was also a sign that said Tandoori Chicken, but there was an almost white colored somewhat dry chicken pieces dish in there. The Chicken 65 was good. The mystery dish was amazing. The Baby Corn Manchurian was really good too. The naan was charred, didn’t look store bought, and was real good dipped in raita. However, there was no paneer on the buffet, and really not enough spicy items. The service was good and they didn’t seem to mind that my very Americanized and non-adventurous 10 year old brought in Taco Bell to eat while we enjoyed the Indian fare.

Really like their curry and in love with their samosas! Best Indian food in Washtenaw county.

I visited for lunch buffet and it was special one for Diwali. It had few items which usually will not be in the regular buffet. Couple of more appetizers, chai and some traditional sweets we do it in home. Everything tasted well. I can say all the appetizers vada, bajji, stuffed panner bajji, veg roll. All curries and rice were good. I give a star less for couple of reasons. They had parotta which i think is the frozen you can get in indian grocery stores. That too it had hard. Dum aloo which usually we expect smaller potatoes but this one was having very big potatoes. Also the place is not that much convenient to go and get the food. It doesn’t matter if you order and get the food served to your table.

There are several Indian buffets in Ann Arbor — personally, I feel they all taste the same and offer comparable customer service. One thing unique to the buffet at Taste of Suvai is its Chicken 65 instead of Tandoori chicken. For $ 12, you can enjoy endless amounts of Basamti rice, vegetable curries, and appetizers. Seating can be quite limited on a busy day and the staff prefers cash over splitting the bill.

I will preface this by saying that I acknowledge their cleanliness and past health code violation issues, but I unabashedly love this place and will never stop loving it until they give me food poisoning or something. I can’t speak of their dinner menu, but their lunch buffet is great. I nearly die of joy every time they have vegetable pakora, and everything else is pretty good, too. I also like their chai tea, which you can get for yourself on the right end of the table with the plates. On the weekend, there are even more food options than weekdays, but on weekdays, there’s a 10% student discount, so it’s a toss-up between weekday or weekend dining.

Had a bad experience with the delivery arriving super late but I would give the restaurant another try at the location.

We are in Ann Arbor more than we should be, and we often try to eat somewhere else, but the lunch buffet is just too good. And with no decent Indian options near our home, we have become hooked. Never a long wait, every flavor done right and a wide variety each and every time.

Lunch time buffet is great. I did read some scary reviews from the health department a month or so ago about this restaurant, but I am assuming they cleaned up because they are still open?

I can’t express how delicious this food is! Rich, buttery Indian goodness. I might have an addiction to their food. Specifically: the vegetarian samosas, the paneer appetizer, the mutter paneer, the Baignan Bartha(a delicious eggplant curry) and the garlic naan. Ordering from here is always excellent – and it’s comforting to know on a rainy day like this, I can have hot, delicious food delivered right to my door.

Big fan of this place — enough so that I will brave going downtown and through campus just to pick it up. The waitstaff whenever we’ve eaten in has been phenomenal — friendly and fun. The butter chicken is out of this world, the dosa’s are delicious, the chicken tikka is yummy(though the butter chicken is definitely better), the mango lassi is delicious and the garlic naan is the best ever. Seriously if you don’t like garlic — don’t order the garlic naan — it lives up to its name ;)

I’d like to update my review. My last experience there was just horrendous. I went for lunch buffet around 130 pm and the service was awful. There were no more curry chicken dishes left and they left it empty for about 15 minutes. So I just sat there and twiddled my thumbs while eating naan. Actually, there was some tandoori chicken that was old and dry. When they finally made some more chicken(by the way they NEVER refilled the chicken tikka masala) I came back to my table and the waiter picked up the naan on my old plate with his dirty fingers and asked if I was still eating it. Well of course not after he put his gross hands all over it. I’d say that if you show up to this buffet when it opens you’ll be all right… but apparently at 130 you get stuck with nothing. These guys need to get their act together.

This place is really good. I ordered delivery and it was here 15 minutes early. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala which was delicious and how it should be, and the garlic naan which was the perfect consistency. The food was extremely flavorful and fresh. Very authentic. I would most definitely order again.

I’ve been to their lunch buffet twice. It’s ~$ 12 per person, and they offer a student discount on weekdays. They always have a cold salad bar type area, with sauces and fruit. Next to that, they have tea, some flour patty things, and two types of fried appetizers. The next, hot area is the best, with the main curry items. The first two large trays of dishes are all vegetarian, and include the popular paneer curry, channa masala, and other veggie assortments. The next separated section has the meat dishes. The only meat they have is chicken, and even though they have 3 – 4 different chicken entrees, in addition to biryani, I still wish they had some more selection in the animal protein category. Finally, there are one or two dessert items at the very end of the food row. The last time I went, they had a vermicelli pudding and some carrot-based dessert. The first time I went here, I suffered digestive issues for a considerable time, but maybe that is coincidental with something else I did that day and I don’t want to blame it on this restaurant for sure. The second time I came, I made sure to steer clear from the uncooked items in the salad bar region just in case, and did not feel so bad afterwards. Overall, Taste of India is a good choice if one does not know very much about Indian cuisine and want to taste a bunch of different new dishes. I am also intrigued by how Raja Rani will change or not, now that the Taste of India owners have procured it.

The quality of the food is worth four stars, but the service is simply lacking. If you’re getting take-out, expect to wait anywhere from five to twenty-five minutes more than you bargained for. If you’re dining in, be on the lookout for cold food, slow service, and generally having to fight for a waiter’s attention. I’d recommend checking out Madras Masala instead.

Buffet food quality is just so-do; nothing much to write about. Tiny styrofoam cups for tea — really??? It’s just so tacky and wasteful.

Best Indian lunch buffet in A2. While taste of India might not knock your socks off with its fancy décor(or lack of), it certainly makes up for it with their food. I’ve been to all the Indian restaurants in A2 for their buffets, and without a doubt, taste of India is by far my favorite. The dishes are unpretentious, downright delicious, and packed with flavor. The thing I really like about taste of India is some of their unique dishes, such as the Indochina inspired cauliflower, which is the bees knees. Quite possibly the best spent 12 dollars in the universe.

I’ve been to most of the Indian places downtown but hasn’t been to this one, and we went tonight after a movie. It was«second dinner» for me so I wasn’t too hungry, I ordered a mango lassi and garlic naan. The naan was good but a bit TOO garlicky. Lassi was also good. When we arrived, no one was there to greet us, so we kind of just sat down. My friend got the chicken tikka appetizer and it wasn’t that good, I had a taste of it. Our other friends got lamb and chicken curry dishes, which looked good but they said they were spicy. I’d like to try this place out again and get an actual entrée, but for now I’d say it’s about average. Prices seemed decent overall, which was good. It has a great location too, right on State St near the coffeehouses and theaters.

I’ve been slowly trying out the various Indian restaurants in Ann Arbor and I can definitely say the food here did not disappoint. I wish I could say the same about the service. Upon walking in, we were ignored by the waitstaff and eventually seated ourselves. It took a long time for our waiter to come over with menus, and an equally long time for him to return to take the order. The food, on the other hand, arrived in a timely fashion at least. To start with we tried the gobi 65; the cauliflower was nice and crisp outside but the inside still had a bit of a bite to them. The flavoring was lacking too, the spices didn’t really come through too much which was disappointing. Our entrees were much better though. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. We received a fair amount of chicken in our portion, and the sauce was rich and creamy. We also tried the lamb house special curry; it was somewhat like a vindaloo but better in my opinion. The sauce was flavorful and overall the dish was very satisfying. My only complaint was that the lamb pieces had been butchered poorly so they’re were stringy and oddly sized pieces. Both meats were cooked well though, especially in comparison to what we have tried at other restaurants. Each entrée is served with white rice which was cooked well, and we ordered a naan to accompany the meal. The bread was nice, soft but not doughy and served fresh and warm. Even though I wasn’t impressed with our appetizer, their menu is vast enough to try others and our entrees definitely made up for it. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to others with the caveat of bracing yourself for poor service, the food makes up for it.

We were in the mood for some authentic Indian. We asked some of our Bschool Indian friends what they recommended and so this is how we ended up at Taste of India Suvai. We were immediately seated and it smelled delicious inside. The silverware/plates had some stuff stuck to it which had me a little worried. We started off with the Chicken 65. Wowser. this was phenomenal. A definite must try appetizer. Hubs ordered the House special Lamb curry and I had the Lamb Tikka Masala. Both were absolutely delicious. We had some questionable stomach issues later but not sure if it was from this place or not. Even so, we both agreed that it was so good that we would come here again and risk it. haha You’ve been warned… =P

Yummy, authentic, great flavors! I recommend trying anything with Paneer(indian cheese cubes) and a stuffed paratha(bread). The chole bhatura is also amazing. If you ever want to try south indian dishes, this is the palce for it. The chef specializes in that region so you know you’re getting the best. It’s a great place for vegetarians, a discount for students, and prompt with takeout!

I have mixed feelings about Taste of India. The food is generally passable, although the biryani is heavily overcooked with dry and cardboard-like chicken. The chicken tandoori is awful — charred and dried until the meat can’t even come off the bone. And this is during lunch hour. On the plus side, the variety is decent, and there is unsweetened chai tea and a fruit salad as well. The waiters don’t take away your dishes nearly often enough — I had 3 plates stacked before he came by. Cleanliness is an issue — there as curry on my napkin(!), and some of the utensils look like they weren’t cleaned well. As others have mentioned, they do have a student discount($ 1), so be sure to show your student ID.

SOOOGOOOD! Friend and I walked in in the afternoon randomly and discovered a most awesome buffet! Best chicken tikka masala I’ve had in A2 thus far! They even had complimentary chai tea :) With their student discount, it was only $ 9.00!!! Definitely coming back!
