Ordered a Family size, with ½ Soy Garlic and ½ Hot & Spicy. I can guarantee you, that their Hot & Spicy chicken is authentic. Our To-Go order took approximately 15 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend eating here, since they lack the appropriate seating. I highly suggest you call ahead and order a takeout. If you like Bön Chon, you’ll throughly enjoy this hidden gem. Their menu doesn’t have fries, but their chicken will surely make up for it!

Very old school korean style chicken+pizza place. Only 2 – 3 tables here. So it will be better to take out. Pizza was little too thin for my taste but i really loved it overall

Fried chicken from a whole chicken — Korean style — Awesomeness! The skin was crispy and delicious. The flavors perfect! We had Spicy, Mild and Plain — all were fantastic! Would love to have them come over to Hawaii — we have a good amount of Koreans here too!

Big, jumbolicious Korean fried chicken that only takes 15 minutes to make! I always get take out for the soy garlic chicken wings(my favorite), and every time you go they give you a punch card where when you collect ten, you get a free family chicken meal. The sweet potatoe pizza was unique in a GOOD way, but a bit overpriced for the size. Don’t let that stop you though from trying it. Not only is the food good, but the people here are very friendly. The manager even helped me jump start my car one winter! That counts as excellent customer service to me.

The chicken was good but we got the pizza and it was kind of bland. I will still come back for the chicken!

Ok, I’m proud of having this place in our town! The owner actually responded to my complaints about my review on overcooked chickenThe owner made an Apology about a few piece of overcooked chicken during busy hours. Also offered refund or new order as well. Also he said he re-trained their cooks at the store. They never cook the same chicken or old chicken multiple times. I am happy to know that they try improving in food service for the community. They will listen and make corrections if u have a bad experience with their food. Reliable food service.

Got the spiciest mixed. Beware, it will be very spicy :) Nice crunch, good texture and good taste. Suited for carryout, limited seating of three tables. Some wait time, order ahead of time. Can feel like its a little bit expensive for what you get, but not anymore than other Korean fried chicken places like Bonchon. Will go back.

I enjoyed the food here! It’s inexpensive and great tasting. Definitely not the healthiest food but definitely yummy! We ate here and I took off one star only because the atmosphere lacked appeal. It was very warm and moist inside which made it slightly uncomfortable. As for the food, we got the bulgogi pizza and soy garlic wings. Both were AMAZING. The pizza was delicious, you taste the bulgogi flavor in the meat and the cheese was nice and chewy. The wings were crunchy and saucy, super delicious!

I don’t understand why people keep comparing this place to BonChon. They’re two different kinds of chicken. If you walk into this joint expecting the same kind of chicken BonChon sells, of course you’re gonna walk out of this place thinking it sucks. BonChon chicken is deep fried wings and drumettes with the sauce and flavor pretty much fried right into the skin. Cheogajip sells a whole chicken that’s been broken down, breaded, fried, then wet sauced(you can get sauce on the side too). Anyway, if you like whole chicken, you’ll dig this place. I’m not too keen on most of the sauces. I usually only eat the hot & spicy one. Hot & spicy can range from pretty hot to oh-my-good-lord-it’s-gonna-hurt-in-the-bathroom-later hot. The pizza. not a big fan. But it’s relatively cheap, and if I had to eat one I’d get the sweet potato one.

My favorite korean chicken place! I love the spicy and mild, the soy garlic is good but I prefer more sauce on my chicken. Cheogajip over bonchon!

Great spot for alternative bonchon chicken. This has more spice and sauce on the chickens. Addicted

I have healthy eating and work-out habits Monday-Friday(90% accurate). I torture myself throughout the week, so that I can indulge on Saturdays — and sometimes Sundays when I’m really, really stressed out. This past Saturday, my weekly indulgence was some fried chicken, sweet potato pizza, and an ice-cold can of Coke. Lethal combination. My review might be a little biased because every time I think of Cheogajip, I am 8 years-old again, sitting on a plastic stool outside of the fried chicken joint/psuedo-conveniencve store I used to frequent in Seoul. At 8-years-old, I was able to down ½ a chicken by myself. Not much has changed. :) Many people compare Cheogajip’s chicken to that of Bonchon’s. Don’t. While Bonchon’s chicken is crispy, Cheogajip’s chicken is wet, saucy, and sticky. That might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I lurrrrrve it. My top 3 favorites are the Soy Garlic(mild), Chicken Supreme(spicy), and Hot&Spicy(spicy as f). And yes, their spicy is SPICY. They don’t play games. I like to get a ½ order of each just to keep things exciting, and I suggest that you do a little mixing and matching with their sauces/flavors as well. Most people are used to getting wings/legs at Korean chicken establishments, but Cheogajip keeps it OG and gives you an entire chicken. However, you do have the choice of gettings wings only, but I prefer getting the whole chicken because you get a variety of textures. I’m also quite a fan of their sweet potato pizza — a very nice combination of sweet and savory. They generously load each pizza up with chunks of sweet potatoes. *drool* I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. You do have the option of dining in at Cheogajip, but I prefer to place my orders to-go(takes about 20 minutes for them to fill your order, time accordingly) because there is nothing more gratifying than sitting in front of the TV with your pajamas on while eating some fried chicken and pizza.

I first had BonChon, then moved onto Chimc, and then I stumbled upon this hidden gem. It was love at first bite! Other Unilocalers said that this chicken was way better than BonChon and I completely agree. The chicken at Cheogajip can come with a variety of different sauces(sweet & mild, supreme, hot & spicy, and soy garlic). Unlike said competition which only come with soy garlic or spicy sauce. These days the measure of good fried chicken is defined by the crunchiness and taste of the outside of the chicken. The chicken at Cheogajip is not only good on the outside it’s also very flavorful and juicy on the inside. Unfortunately for this restaurant Chimc and BonChon are close by and provide a better better dining in experience. Which is what most people look for when going out for dinner with their friends and family. Cheogajip only has 3 available tables enclosed in a small area. Although I wouldn’t recommend dining in I’d definitely recommend take out.

I frequently enjoy their take out chicken. Half-half sweet and spicy & garlic flavor. Compared to bonchon, cheogajip tastes better(my personal preference) but bonchon has better chicken meat quality. Great for late night snack!

I recently discovered this place and already fell in love with it! It is literally hidden on a side street comparing to other restaurants in the area. I think their chicken is way better than BonChon. It is also fried chicken but come with different sauces that you can choose from — I believe there are four. The chicken is crispy on the outside yet flavorful all the way through the inside, unlike Bonchon where it could be crispy to the point where you have to try really hard to bite and the inside is bland. Will definitely recommend. If you think BonChon is good, you’ll have to reconsider after trying this place.

My girlfriend and I are basically regulars here. She is from Korea, she knows all of the great hideaways in Annandale, and she has been eating the fried chicken here for at least a year. She looooves fried chicken, so she knows all the spots around the area. We decided to try it together months ago, and absolutely loved it. We generally agree it’s superior to its basic equivalent restaurants of Bön Chon and Chi Mc. The spicy chicken is REALLY hot. I grew up on spicy food, so I can handle pretty high levels of hot, but that made even my eyes water. We usually get both the hot and mild fried chicken. It’s very good. The space is quite small, but I’ve rarely seen people eating in the restaurant(we have really only ever ordered to go and taken it back home). It’s designed more like a take-out kind of place. But the staff is quite friendly, we have never encountered any difficulty in dealing with that, so no complaints at all in that area. Overall, I’d highly recommend the Love-Letter, especially if you love fried chicken. It’s a tucked-away hole in the wall, but it definitely beats out other more popular restaurants in my opinion.

What Cheogajip lacks in square footage and overall ambience, it certainly makes up for in fantastic Korean-style fried chicken. I came to Cheogajip with my boyfriend and a friend with a ravenous appetite and a craving for fried chicken. I was not disappointed with Cheogajip’s offerings, which, though few, very much mirror those of Bonchon, Northern Virginia’s resident Korean Fried Chicken establishment. Well, Bonchon better hunker down because Cheogajip’s wings were just as, if not more, tasty and crispy. We ordered a 20-pc wing set with half soy garlic and half supreme. The soy garlic wings were deliciously sweet, salty, and slightly spicy with skin that crackled upon biting into each juicy wing. The supreme wings were drizzled with a slightly acidic, spicy sauce and what appeared to be kewpie mayo. These wings were also tasty, but I wish the sauce had been more evenly distributed. The most astonishing part about the wings, though, were their size! They were much larger and meatier than the wings I’ve had previously at Bonchon and, even after only eating six wings, I felt plenty full. The meal also came with complimentary coleslaw salad(skip this… the lettuce was limp and the dressing was bland) and pickled radishes(?). And now some logistics. We were definitely a little confused about how to order and seat ourselves but the cashier/host/line cook/prep guy(he seemed to be one of the only two staff there for the night) was very accommodating.(A rule of thumb: order at the register, pay at the register but don’t forget to leave a tip!) He was a bit busy throughout the night, and it took some time to get his attention at some points, but overall service was quite good. And the shop itself can be quite tough to find. The store’s sign is not lit at night and it may be only written in Hangul. So, as you’re traveling down Evergreen Lane, look for the building with a large«Washington Baptist University» sign on the front, drive under the arch to park in the back, and the shop will be on your left as you walk back to the entrance. Overall, a great experience and I’d love to come back to try more of the chicken and some of the pizzas~

I will preface this by saying I love Korean food but this is definitely not for me. I have tried really hard to try to enjoy this. I have even tried bonchon or now called chi me and I am not a fan. I have had their chicken and their sweet potato pizza. My girlfriend and her family enjoys this place. I will start off with the pizza. It’s definitely very unique and I will give them props for that. The pizza for me is okay in moderation. Maybe two slices max. The slices however are smaller than the traditional pizza that we are used to. The chicken for me is too big and it tastes like orange chicken. I don’t like orange chicken so perhaps that is why I am not a fan of it. I prefer American fried chicken. The reason for the two star review is because if I really had to eat it I personally would prefer chi me. It’s not too sweet and a bit more calm. Also I feel like the chicken is not as big which for me is preferable but others might enjoy the bigger size. If you like Korean style chicken you should definitely try out this place and compare it with the more famous bonchon or chi me.
