I hated to cheat on Sushi Thai in Cary but Baan Thai is so close for me. My kids were kind of crazy that day and from the pics on Unilocal I wasn’t sure if the restaurant was family friendly. The staff was very welcoming and even though the place is small it’s cozy. We were right next to the kitchen and while it’s nice to be able to see what’s going on there were wofts of warm air hitting us from time to time. It seemed to coincide when things were thrown into the fryer. The smell of it kind of bothered me but didn’t seem to be an issue for the rest of my family. I tried the Pad Thai and my wife tried the sushi. The food was good but not on par with Sushi Thai. I still plan on hitting this place again since it is so close. The service was decent and the prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get.

My cousin, aunt, and I had been looking for an asian restaurant to have lunch at on new years day, yet practically every place was closed except for Baan Thai. When we arrived the place was empty, but a few people came in shortly after we arrived. The waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming. I ordered their green curry which was really good. The coconut soup was kind of disappointing though. My mom makes this at home quite often and I’m sure coconut soup should not taste like straight up coconut milk. Baan Thai’s coconut soup tasted super creamy, almost too creamy, no spice, no real ‘thai’ flavor. But that was the only thing wrong I can think of, and it is not a deal breaker. Its a great thai place with a good selection and excellent curry.

Took our youngest adult daughter here for her birthday and we were all very pleased with our meals. Appetizers, chicken satay and star crab, were quite good and arrived quickly. My wife and I both had the Panang Seafood, yum. Our daughter had the Tamarind Duck which she really enjoyed. We are planning to go back soon.

Been looking for a Thai place since moving back from the left coast. I can honestly say this place is really good. Sushi was sushi, nothing to rave about, but it was fresh and nothing wrong. Had the Phad z ew(or however they spell Phad See Ew) and they got it right. Thick rice noodles and a tasty brown sauce. Next time I’ll ask if they can add a little extra brown sauce. Lots of chicken to go along with it. Ordered 2 stars(3 star scale) and wasn’t hot at all. Don’t think I’m willing to ask for 3 just in case it was a mistake. Wife had Massaman curry zero stars and it was tasty as well. Actually had a very sweet taste with a hint of curry at the end. Was definitely different. I was sad to see the old place go that was in this spot, but very happy to have good Thai food so close by!

Definitely among the worst Pad Thai and sushi I’ve had. Gave it 2 tries and both times was very unsatisfied.

Finally! A Thai restaurant in Apex. Interior — very small, almost hole in the wall set up. The cooking area is exposed to the dining area. Food — pretty good! Not the best Thai I have ever had and am used to at home, but pretty good. Service — attentive and very friendly. Will be coming back!

Craving Thai today so I met my friend in Apex to try this place. I’d been here a while back when it was a Japanese place and liked that too. There was a buy one get one 50% off for sushi so we tried some to start. The Apex roll had fried shrimp, avocado, cucumbers and more with crab across the top. Pretty and delicious. The spicy tuna roll wasn’t very spicy but had a nice smear of sauce on the side so that helped. The rice was a little compacted for me but it tasted good. I had Pad Z-ew which is called See Ew sometimes. It was delicious with large flat noodles in a smoky sauce, eggs, chicken and veggies. My friend ordered Pad Woon Sen with thin«silver» noodles, eggs, chicken, peppers, tomatoes and onions. This too was wonderfully tasty. Both of our dishes had good sized portions and were delicious. So many other things on the menu I wanted to try. Service was great! I will be back!

We have been going to Baan Thai every week to every 2 weeks. We like to try different dishes. Everything has been delicious. We like some dishes better than others, but dishes have been prepared nicely, it was just our taste. Some of the dishes we love are pineapple curry, pad thai, spicy eggplant, pineapple fried rice, pad bhai mee chicken. We will continue to try different dishes & appetizers to make sure we aren’t missing something. Nice fresh ingredients. We love everyone that works there. A must try.

This place never disappoints! Everything I have tried has been delicious! They have lunch specials that are very reasonably priced, and you get your choice of a small salad, or a cup of coconut soup, a drink and also a spring roll. Get the soup, it is excellent! They do a wonderful job with tofu, and they can prepare most of their dishes with it instead of meat if you happen to be a vegetarian. The staff is very friendly and the service is quick. It’s a great spot for lunch!

My husband and I regularly go here for lunch. Today I brought my father for his birthday. Really great food… Maybe the best Thai in the Apex area. Large menu and everything I’ve had has been excellent quality. Today was Pad Prik Basil and Drunken Noodle. They’ve started a lunch special now where if you have two entrees, you both get a free drink and a spring roll. My father and I had plenty to eat with a final bill of only $ 8 each. The restaurant had some severe bumps when they first opened with terrible, untrained wait staff. I fear that this has caused them permanent loss of customers. But now they’ve hired good help and the service is fast. Please give them a try again! You will be pleasantly surprised.

I would have liked to give 3.5 stars, honestly. The restaurant is tiny and not overly decorated. We did order an appetizer as well as entrees, both of which were good. Not great, but good. The pace is a little slow and service is also slow. I would order take-out instead of eating in next time.

The rice smells oldstock and I ended up not eating it. The pork curry was served cold. If ever I will visit this place in the future I will order the Phad thai and chicken satay again. Overall price is reasonable, the place is okay and not hard to find, our waitress Kelly is super nice.

The food was great! Everything tasted really good but it is pricey for the place. May be the price does not attract as many people as this place should. The flavors were very good and everything was freshly made.

This is a decent spot for Thai relatively close to home. Full disclosure: I have a favorite Thai restaurant in another city and always compare any pad Thai to my absolutely favorite Thai restaurant on the planet. We walked in around 6:30 on a Saturday night. Plenty of open seats and we were told to seat ourselves. It took awhile for anyone to come to our table and we ordered water to drink. That also took awhile, but the service couldn’t have been friendlier. Maybe they had a lot of take out orders they were preparing? Anyway — we ordered an appetizer, I can’t remember the name but basically chicken skewers and put in our dinner orders. I went with chicken pad Thai. Our appetizer arrived and to be honest, it wasn’t my favorite so I gave my husband the green light to take it all down. He liked it. The entrees arrived and the pad Thai looked great. I went with a low spice level. The portion was good and there was plenty of chicken. The flavor was good, not great like my favorite pad Thai dish. The chicken was very dry but not terrible. I ate everything that was on my plate, and I would go back because of convenience but am still on the hunt to find a really delicious pad Thai dish in the area.

My wife and I visited recently based on recommendations from the neighborhood. They’re in the old Ichiban space near Harris Teeter. The space hasn’t changed much and the décor was pretty sparse(which is fine by me as I go to restaurants for the food). The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We started with the Fresh Shrimp Basil Rolls. They differed a lot from the ones we get back in RI(where we had some great Thai places). These were mainly filled with iceberg lettuce and carrots along with a basil leaf and piece of shrimp. The ones I love have bean sprouts and rice noodles instead of the salad and Thai basil over regular basil. They were still well prepared, fresh and pretty good. My wife had the Panang Curry with Chicken and I had the Massaman Curry with Pork. Both were well done but not outstanding. They let you bump up the heat using their three level system. I opted for moving from one to two to be safe but I could barely detect any difference from my wife’s dish. My favorite Thai place anywhere(which is run by a Thai family out of the back of The Churchill Arms in London) combines inspiring flavor and(depending on your choice) searing heat in a truly addicting way. I suppose that’s always my goal with Thai. Overall I thought the food was good but not especially authentic. I feel like they’re catering to the American palate instead of presenting true Thai food. But I suppose that’s’ needed for business. I’d give them a 3 ½ if I could. I think they’re off to a good start and will try them again at some point. They seem like great people so I’m pulling for them.

Solid Thai food in Apex, I’ll take it! Since I crave Thai food like no other cuisine I love a new Thai restaurant in town. Baan Thai is right next to the Harris Teeter on 55 in Apex, I believe it use to be a sushi restaurant before. I walked in for lunch last week and I was the only person in the place which made me nervous at first but the friendly waiter eased my mind. The menu was full of your traditional Thai dishes: curries, papaya salad, pad Thai and more. For my first visit I had to try the curry. There wasn’t really a description on the lunch menu of the veggies etc. in the curry but I had faith they would do it right. I ordered the lunch portion of the yellow curry which came with a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the soup which was absolutely delicious and tasted like Tom Kha(coconut soup with tofu and mushrooms). The curry came out next and it was a generous portion filled with tofu, potatoes, carrots, and onions. Thank you so much for not filling my curry with unnecessary bamboo shoots and fillers:) The curry was really good I wish they would have asked the level of spiciness when I ordered I could have used a little more spice, I also ordered a Thai iced tea that did not disappoint. I’m looking forward to trying some of their other dishes but I know I will be back soon especially for lunch it was very tasty!

First if all the restaurant just opened in January 20, 2014. You cant expect everything perfect as long as the food is good. I was impressed about the location-easy to find right around the corner of Harris Teeter store. The restaurant looked brand new and clean. It had open kitchen that you could see who were cooking for you which I really liked that. I want to know who makes my food. My first thought was oh they had Mexican cook like some other restaurants however, I was totally wrong. I heard everyone spoke Thai. I talked to the owner she told me the cook was Thai and had many years of experience in Thai restaurants . Here is my comments about what I ordered. Basil duck-it’s homemade and marinated, very tender and had lots of tasty flavor. Fish with herb salad-very yummy and tons of herbs in there, so healthy. Pad See-Ew, big flat noodle with brown soy sauce. They use fresh made noodle not a dry instant kind from a package. This is the first Thai restaurant that uses fresh made noodle for cooking. Their coconut cake is homemade $ 5.5 a piece but big enough to share. I also LOVE their homemade ice-cream. You MUST try them!
