I have lived down the street for a year now and finally decided to try this place. I love the food here. It is not fast food Chinese. It is gourmet and delicious. I can’t stand Panda Wok or others like that. This is genuinely good food. My whole family loves their food.

Typically I don’t like Chinese food. However, Mandarin Chef hits the spot for me. The staff is incredibly friendly. Especially the waitress. She is always attentive.

Food is very well prepared. Excellent attentive service without being overbearing. Good value pricing especially for the lunch menu. A great choice without having to drive all the way to Victorville.

Finally found a place with good food in this city. I’ve been disappointed by so many other places in this city that had good reviews. I’m from la so I’m probably being a city brat when I say that even though there is a plethora of places to eat here, the high desert is lacking in good quality restaurants.

Ordered take out a few times now and so far everything has been pretty good. I really like their chicken chow mein, by far the best I’ve had in the HD. I personally feel that they’re your best bet if you don’t want to drive down the hill.

Best Chinese restaurant around. Flavorful dishes, good portions. Fast service, fair prices. Friendly smiling staff didn’t mind one of my kids walking and hopping around in the booth either.

The food is ok I dont see anything special about it. I had Kung po Chicken it was dry and tasted over cooked. For what he spent I won’t go back. Too expensive for what it is!

I was so glad to see another Chinese restaurant to open in the area that was not fast food that I decided to try it and was very glad I did. Great selection of items and everything we tried was delicious. Will definitely return in the future.

When they first started they were good but now the food service has gone downhill the fried rice was hard, egg foo young was burnt one of the waiters was in a bad mood we ask for more jasmine tea they gave us hot water our orders were wrong the worst part of it they overcharged us and used wrong credit cards l had to call my bank to check if my refund went through restaurants said they they refunded they didn’t according to our bank something is very wrong & fishy they also charge my brother $ 79 Wow… now we have to wait a week for his money to be refunded into his account what a mess… top it off the employees were fighting & arguing over their mistakes one of the employees took off from the restaurant we think this was done intentionally to make more money off of us charges $ 79.60, 2 x $ 29.05, $ 18.30 Yolanda that is way too much for 3 people we will never eat there again!.. Waited a long time to try this place and I am disappointed we didn’t try it sooner. I was delicious the atmosphere is relaxing and authentic. The staff if friendly as well. I ordered the sweet and sour shrimp which had wonderful flavor, but was a little heavy in the batter. My husband order pinapple Chicken which he swore was the best he had ever had. Appetizers were over the top delish. We will return to this resturant. I would recommend this place for sure.

So happy we tried this restraunt. The service is great. The quality of food is by far fresh and excellent. I ordered sweet and sour shrimp, chow main and fried rice. It was excellent and so flavorful. Everytime I visit we are greeted with a smile. Will definitely recommend this establishment to my friends and family. Grab a to go menu and stick it on your fridge. you can even pick something up on the way home for dinner. This is not a fast food tasting joint. The food is awesome! Yeah for a local small business.

The site has changed styles a few times and to see it a Chinese restaurant now peaked our interest. From the outside you wouldn’t be able to get a good idea of what you’d be stepping into, but once you did, the quaint consistent décor would put you at ease. The spot offers approximately 12 — 4 person tables. Offering a wide variety of a la carte and a few combination plates, this place puts out some nice dishes. The portions are a little small compared to other local spots, but they do bring some good flavors. The staff were extremely nice and professional, and prompt too. I would’ve liked to see the lights dimmed a bit and the fried wontons served with sauce instead of coated with sugar, but overall its a great place and I would go back.

Best sit-down Chinese in the desert! They have a wide variety of menu items and we haven’t tried anything we didn’t like. Service is excellent. Egg foo young is one of our favorites.

After much searching we have found a good Chinese place in the desert. We enjoyed the fresh food and friendly service. Nothing better then getting fresh Chinese food, instead of food that’s been sitting in a catering pan for who knows how long! Prices are a bit high for dinner but it looked like they have a very reasonable lunch special! We will definitely be eating here again!

I have seen this particular building change businesses so many times and I have never tried any of them. Finally decided to try Mandarin Chef after reading the reviews on here and I was not disappointed. Walked in and was greeted right away by a friendly hostess. The décor was nice and clean. I ordered the special dinner combo with chicken chow mein. The won ton soup was so yummy! So were the egg rolls and paper wrapped chicken. A lot of places seem to have sub par egg rolls so I was very happy that they had some really good ones. The chicken chow mein was super yummy and so was the fried rice. The staff was very friendly and prompt. I have enough left overs for a second meal. IT was definitely worth the price. I hope this business actually sticks around! Now Im hungry again just talking about this place! ;)

I recently saw a news show on TV where 2 American grad students from Yale or Columbia University went to Shanghai, China and quickly found out real Chinese food in China weren’t the ones they ate in the States. Apparently, dishes like Orange Chicken and General Tao chicken were invented in the United States so they don’t exist in China so they couldn’t find any. So the grad students ended up opening their own American style Chinese restaurant in China, serving Orange Chicken and the like, using ingredients like apple sauce to make it sweet. There’s no shortage of Chinese restaurants in the high desert that serve sugar sweet Americanized Chinese food, which is fine, but if you’re like me and you’re trying not to gain weight and you’re trying not to get diabetes by not eating sugary food, then your options for Chinese food in the high desert is limited. Mandarin Chef restaurant in Apple Valley serves both Americanized Chinese food and traditional Chinese food, so everyone in your family and friends can find something they like and enjoy. Interior is decorated very nice, the effort to make the environment pleasant is much appreciated. Mandarin Chef is actually a sit-down, dine-in restaurant, rather than a fast food place, despite the outside looking like a fast food joint. Got food to-go and the fish fillet in hot sauce sauce was very good but very small portion, large soup container that was 85% sauce with 8 small pieces of fish with a little bit bean sprout. The soup broth of the egg flower soup was very good but the egg was chunky like scrambled egg and not floaty flowery like it was supposed to. The bbq pork appetizer was served with hoisin/oyster sauce on a bed of lettuce, nice touch but it lacked the smokiness to be authentic and taste of pork a little gamey to be considered american style. Mongolian beef, tender but a bit too salty. So overall some dishes were really good, others could use improvement, but it’s one of the better Chinese restaurants around HD, if you’re sick of those greasy panda express golden chopstix type of chinese fast food places. A cute sit-down, dine-in Chinese restaurant.
