Service was fantastic. We were greeted with a smile and taken care of very well throughout the meal! We tried the Shrimp Tempura Buns — the bun itself is a bit soft, so my friend wasn’t a fan, but this is true to how they should be served, so order wisely. I enjoyed them. Next we tried the Fried shrimp spring rolls, they were delicious. My friend ordered the Pork Belly Ramen and stated«This is the best thing I’ve ate in a long time»… I had the Dynamite and Firecracker rolls. I would order the Firecracker roll again, but not the Dynamite. Overall highly recommend, some unique food that is very delicious!

I ate here with my brother last Thursday, and it was very good, we shared 3 different sushi dishes and they were all good first we had a daily special that was called Dragon something that one was my favorite of the 3, then we had some spring rolls, they weren’t exactly what I expected but, they were pretty good then we had a California roll and a spicy spring tempura roll, they were both excellent the spicy shrimp one was fairly spicy, but that might be because we told the sushi chef we could handle our spice. The atmosphere was great, definitely a good place for a date. The staff was very nice and friendly. The service was fast and professional. I will be back for sure. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is it is on the pricing side, but worth it

To this day, Masu is still my favorite Japanese restaurant in the US. For those who aren’t aware, there are three restaurants in the twin cities. Although all have the same menu, each specializes in one thing. Apple Valley’s Masu specializes in soups. I ordered the pork belly ramen without broth. It was delicious, fresh, and hot. Masu, you didn’t let me down.

Kim and I checked this place out at night. She had chicken Yakisoba and I had various pieces of sushi. Kim didn’t love here Yakisoba but it wasn’t because it was bad, I believe it was because it may have been a little too authentic. I thought it was really good with a lot of woodsy flavors. But the sushi was killer. I’m not sure I’ve had such fresh and clean tasting sushi as this before, in Minnesota. Hands down best sushi in my opinion. They focus on buying good fish and it was. They also had some other fish options that I hadn’t seen here in MN before. It was good. It’s a nice atmosphere too. Great date place, full bar, décor is japanese contemporary art with a splash of Animé. I’d go again and hopefully Kim will too!

It’s the 3rd time I’ve been there in 3 weeks. My previous visits were good, but this time was terrible. I ordered a California Roll and Firecracker roll of which I’d had both before. This time rolls the server brought out were pitiful. Tiny and thin. Unlike the previous visits. The waiter came back and asked if there was anything, and I told him, the sushi rolls were very small and unacceptable. He looked at me and sai, «oh, those look like the normal size» and walked off. I normally don’t complain, but that was silly. I paid $ 26 for 2 tiny rolls maybe 7−8″ total for both and a glass of water. My buddy’s rolls were the same pitiful stature. So much so that we stopped for food right after. Stay away unless you want a app size portion for closento $ 30. I won’t be back. The stars are for previous visits.

Our first visit here. Overall, the food was good — sushi was fresh, seaweed salad was delicious, and their soups and spring rolls were on point. We went for dinner, though the environment had a more casual/express vibe, so I’d say it’s more for lunch. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the service. Our server was exceptionally slow, missed a few appetizers we ordered and didn’t get them until the end of our meal. It took nearly 40 minutes for me to get a hot sake, and when our server finally came back(after visiting the table a couple of times with no mention of it, and I was the only 1 out of 5 people without a drink) — I said, «If the sake’s not coming out, can I just get a glass of wine please?» He got a bit defensive saying, «There are only 2 of us tonight, and it’s almost ready.» I said, «That’s fine, I’ll just take a glass off wine instead.» & he reiterated,“No, it will be right out.” First time I’ve ever felt like a server argued with me or MADE me take something I had decided I didn’t want. I was brought the sake, and my request for wine was ignored. He didn’t charge me for the sake, but didn’t acknowledge it. He did apologize to the table for the slow service, but it was more of a defensive approach, again mentioning, «There was only two of us, so I just did what I could do.» I’ve been a server and completely understand being short-staffed, but I’d suggest training servers to be extra attentive when they do make table stops, and point out what they’ve done to try and fix the problem(i.e., note that you comp’ed a drink, invite the guests to come back and try you again, etc.)

100% awesome! I thoroughly enjoy(Good) Japanese restaurants– but this one… it has all three elements for a good time: Great Food, Great Surroundings, and Great Service! I’d never been here, my oldest daughter suggested we give it a try, so we wandered in and sat at the bar. The Bartender was great, she was attentive and pleasant. We both ordered noodle entrees and I finished my udon… all the way down to the last delicious drop of broth. Hot green tea served in a traditional small kettle– very good! And guess what? They have SURLYONTAP(along with liquor & wine). Give it a shot. Cheers

Let me begin by saying that I’ve been to their downtown and AV location and both are absolutely equal in terms of quality and service. The food: 1) I had the Duck Gyoza and Pork Belly Ramen with a glass of Riesling. The Gyoza was a tad oilier than I would’ve liked(on the outside) I know the meat is going to have more oil than pork or chicken but the dumplings were oily on the outside and I needed a good bit of lemon to fix it. But the meat and dipping sauce were definitely delicious. 2) The Pork Belly Ramen was so delicious. Perfect soft boiled egg, crispy pork belly, firm noodles, broth I would’ve drank straight up. Think I’ll try a different variety next time, just to mix it up. The service: Bar side seat and service was perfect. Quick and unobtrusive but very friendly. Earned every penny of his tip. Make this a date-night restaurant or weekly treat for good food!

Yummy. If you are vegetarian ask for the veggie menu. It’s not on the«regular«menu.

Came here for the 2nd time because my husband wanted to go and really I’m just not impressed the flavor of everything is pretty bland and the prices are crazy for what you get. We ordered only things off the happy hour menu and did not buy any drinks and our tab came to $ 40! I can go to house of Wing or Taste of Thaiyai and you can get an amazing tasting table of food and have food to bring home. I wont be going to Masu again. Also, the floor was EXTREMELY sticky which was gross.

So exciting to finally see masu expanding themselves and I was ecstatic to see one closer to home! The service there is great– our food was served within a reasonable time, and the servers always have a good attitude. Very welcoming and easy to talk to. My mother and I are both from Hawaii so we have high expectations towards sea food and sushi. We ordered the Sashimi Appetizer, Pork Belly Ramen, and Dynamite Roll. Sashimi Appetizer– appropriate serving size, you can definitely tell how fresh the fish is from the taste. Similar to that fresh taste we remember from Hawaii. We both give this our thumbs up! Pork Belly Ramen– the pork adds a lot of flavor to the broth and the noodles are served to perfection. Not too soggy or firm. I loooove the poached egg too! Dynamite roll– smaller than expected, not as spicy as I last remembered when I ordered it at the MOA masu. The presentation of all of the dishes were as professional as always. Japanese food is difficult to prepare and cook so the price speaks for itself. This will now be my go to for sushi and ramen/udon, thanks for expanding to AV!

Great ramen and sushi. Not too Americanized like so many others. Very good and unique flavors. I had the Spicy Pork Belly Ramen and Firecracker roll. Both were great. My wife had the Tonkatsu Curry Ramen and loved it. A bit pricy for a lunch, but dinner it would be as expected for this food. I’ll go again.

Finally a real Japanese restaurant in AV. I was skeptical because I didn’t care for the Masu at MOA, but we gave it a try during the first week when it opened. Our first visit was good and food wasn’t bad at all. We went back for the second time last week and this time the food was even better. Get the pork belly buns and you will be very happy! I ordered ginger scallions dry noodles thing(don’t remember the name), it was decent. The best dish during the visit was the beef short ribs Kimchi Ramen and it was really good. Great visit over all. Staff was attentive and food came out quickly. I would definitely go back.

I was very happy to hear that Masu opened a restaurant in Apple Valley. I tried it tonight and found it very enjoyable. While they encouraged me to make a reservation, I wouldn’t have needed it. But it was busy, not too busy. I ordered the firecracker roll and maguro nigiri as well as the Yakisoba and all was great. Service was good, fast and very attentive. I will definitely be back.

Really want to like this place. Still undecided. Came in about 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon and the place was about half full. Had never had Ramen other than the kind you get dehydrated at the store so I gave it a shot. Ordered the Spicy Pork Belly Ramen and the broth by itself wasn’t spicy but they do provide a small container of ground hot peppers on the side which helped out. The noodles and the pork belly were cooked great. The broth had an odd slightly burnt taste to it that due to my inexperience with restaurant ramen I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be that way or not. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and said her’s was good. We both like the spring rolls as an appetizer. Decent beer selection on tap. Service was good. As I said I’m still undecided on this place. Its a nice, small room. Used to be a seafood place and a Mexican restaurant in prior incarnations. Apple Valley is void of creative restaurants that are not chains so I have to give Masu another couple of shots. I miss Kami dearly and still haven’t gotten to the sushi here yet. Looking forward to hitting that up soon.

Stopped in for a late-night bite and drink about 10:30 on a Saturday. They have a late night menu instead of their full one. $ 3 House Sake(which was a great sake! Not a super cheap bottle). We also got the Sake and Kappa sushi rolls for around $ 5 each. Nothing too special about the Kappa. I wouldn’t get it again. I prefer sushi with a little more variety than just cucumber but it was decent. The Sake salmon was good as well. Small rolls. We also ordered the vegetarian spring rolls. These were super tasty ! The bar manager commented on them and said they aren’t made in house but the garlic-ginger-sesame sauce is. Not sure if that means the rolls are frozen or what but I would order them again. The sauce was great but be warned, super garlicky when you’re done eating! Stinky. We sat at the bar and Jared the bar manager took care of us. Pretty empty place when we went but there was a couple at a table celebrating a birthday. Jared got them a free shot to celebrate around midnight and he also only charged us for one round of sake. Very nice, down-to-earth server/manager. Would definitely go again and try more of the menu

I was anxiously waiting for this to open, because it’s 5 minutes from home! Yay! Restaurants in Apple Valley are mostly terrible so I was so excited for a decent non-chain option. I came the second day it was open at about 6:30 and we were seated right away. They were busy, but not full. The space is small, but nice. The server seemed a little nervous and had to check a few things when I asked questions, but that’s to be expected because it’s new. We ordered a firecracker roll and the ginger scallion chicken abura ramen. I also tried ordering the spicy plum margarita, but they were out of the ingredients, so I settled on a lychee martini, which was good. The sushi roll came out first, and it was good. However, the ramen was AMAZING. I can’t wait to come back for the kimchi one. Also, the happy hour specials look GREAT. Inexpensive. Happy to have this place close to home.
