This is as good as it get in the Fox Valley — Hands down. Wonderful dishes, the freshest of ingredients. Perfectly cooked filet(cut it with a spoon), Risotto was wonderful, Scallops were perfect. Great wine. Service was PERFECT — almost better than the food. You will not be disappointed I may go back tonight!

Outstanding food and service. One of the best restaurants in the area. Will be back. And try the rack of lamb — out of this world good!

We have seen this restaurant many times on our way to Apollon and always wanted to try it out so a few weeks ago we wanted to try something new and made reservations for a Saturday night. We were seated promptly but the service started off slow and awkward(I believe they were new to it). We started with the octopus appetizer which was great! It was honestly one of the best octopus dishes we have ever had. If you are here ask for this dish as its spectacular. My main dish was the tomahawk bone in ribeye ordered medium rare with the bourbon sauce. When I received the first(!) one it was well overcooked to a well done temperature throughout. They redid the steak and this time it came out raw to rare. Instead of complaining waiting another 20 minutes I ate the rare areas. The steak(s) themselves were flavorless, lacking in seasoning and just not to the quality you’d expect for the price. My wife ordered the waloo. It was under cooked but we’ll seasoned. Maybe a touch over sauced. However, again, it was not as good as it should have been for the price paid as it was not done perfectly which I would expect. If you want perfect fish(perfect waloo) go to Skalliwags in Algoma. Overall, the experience was disappointing. We will probably try them one more time to see if this experience was out of the norm or not.

Valentine’s eve 2016 we were told they would have full menu when we made reservation, they did not. Our salads came out not anything close to what was described on the menu, that included only two salads. How can you get two salads wrong? Good grief! The waitress basically told us we were wrong and had misread the menu. We did not misread, trust me on that. We ordered two steaks. My wife’s was supposed to have some type of chorizo element to it. It came out with no chorizo anything and mushrooms, no mushrooms listed on the menu for that one. My tenderloin was ok, but honestly we cook better steaks at home. Neither steak was even close to being hot. Nothing special at all here folks. On top of it, by the time I drove two miles down college ave I had a horrible stomach ache. Years ago we had a great experience at this place. Clearly, times have changed. I can’t recommend this place. At all.

Since we both love Apollon so much and this was referred to us, went here tonight. My first impression is that it’s set up to be probably the fanciest restaurant in Appleton. There was only one other table with people in the half of the restaurant we were in plus a smaller party taking up the other half. I was somewhat surprised that it took 8 minutes to be offered a beverage under these circumstances but receive our menus upon arrival. Our waitress was nice and usually quick to refill our drinks but lacked being prompt in every other way. I ordered the tomahawk ribeye with Maker’s Mark sauce as my entrée, fontina macaroni as my side, salad with mango sauce and mussels al vino blanco for the appetizer. She ordered the Mediterranean grouper and tomato basil bisque. The mussels and bread arrived quickly(salad and entrée much longer). The portion of mussels was surprisingly larger than anticipated, so I felt it was a good value at $ 15. They were also cooked very well. This kind in particular has a very strong garlic sauce. I was also impressed by the olive spread for the bread. I’m not normally an olive fan but this was very good even though I almost bit down hard on a pit. After appetizers and bread, we sat at our food-empty table for quite some time. I was hoping the salad & soup would have made its way to us soon but it really did take a while. My salad was pretty good but small. The soup was good and had a resemblance to vodka sauce. Once the entrees arrived, I was happy to see the portion of meat for the ribeye was quite sufficient, better than I expected. I ordered it medium and was pleased with how well-cooked it was even near the bone. The sauce that accompanied it was quite good as well. I didn’t try the grouper but I was told it was good and very similar to Apollon’s. Waiting for the bill and having our meals boxed up for us took about 10+ minutes too. We actually took some more water while we waited. In all, the whole experience was 1hr 40 min and we were going at their pace. When I got home, I realized my vegetable sides and mushrooms from the steak were not boxed for me. I only had the steak and bone. The grouper had its sides in its box, however. For me, this brought my overall rating down to what I’d say would be closer to 3.8÷5. Some people praise the service more than I will but I found this to be odd and negative. Worth noting: I did get a $ 50 for $ 40 voucher off of Unilocal for this meal. I’m not sure I’ll be here again since Apollon offered about the same menu but better appetizers.

I wish I could separate my star rating. The food, while pricy(which we knew) was prepared well, would get a 5, the garlic soup, delish! the attentiveness of the bar service a 5(Juan was a delight), however our waitstaff based on the quality of service received tonight, a 2 at best due to critical no-no’s…This is how I came up with an overall 3. Having been a server in a less prestigious restaurant than this for eight years, even I am aware there are certain do’s and don’ts in the restaurant business such as, Please do not take away a plate without asking, while I am in mid bite with food still left! Also, do not bring us our guest check without at least first asking if «there will be anything else» while there is still hot coffee in our cups, wine in our glasses and deserts our plates, with 40 mins to go until closing. By no means were we keeping a table from waiting guests, there were a total of 4 or 5 other tables being served. Putting the guest check on a table in this manner was like being asked to leave, but please give us your money first. Also, prior to putting said guest check on our table, please ensure it is correct, especially after asking 30 second prior who is responsible for what… it is awkward to ask your table mates if their item is on their check, seeing it is my check. I expect a certain level of excellence while dining in a restaurant of this caliber and Il Angolos missed the mark tonight. Almost $ 200 later for two people, I will not be returning, which is disappointing seeing we had previously planned a return visit with our son in a few weeks, prior to tonight’s visit.

Holy S was this expensive. But my wife and I walked away feeling happy. She had the steak and I had the sea bass. I don’t normally make the plans. Today I had one expectation and that was to pick a inexpensive place. Boy did I fail. However, the delivery and service were excellent. Our server was genuine and polite. Warm bread and olive sauce came shortly after our drink order. There wasn’t much down time between courses. The food was excellent and we were very impressed.

I’ve never had a bad meal there. Went with my daughter. She ordered the salmon and I had shrimp. Always prepared so well. If my mom had cooked vegetables like they do I would’ve always eaten them. The tapenade and bread were delicious. I hD the salad with mango dressing. My daughter had the minestrone soup. All fantastic. Great décor and service. You can call for reservations but we walked in. Great drinks too!

I had walked by the restaurant several times over the past few years, but I hadn’t eaten at Il Angolo until recentely. The menu posted on the building tells the story, the place is pretty expensive. Last month I ended up going with my wife for our anniversary. We had an appetizer, main meals, drinks, and desserts for just over $ 100.(we didn’t get alcohol, just pop) I thought the food was really good. It made me think of the kind of food that the chefs on Top Chef probably make at their restaurants.(I had a espresso encrusted tenderloin.)The servers were very professional too. I would say this will probably be our top restaurant to go to for special occasions. Due to the high cost, we will probably only go once or twice a year, but I do recommend it.

By far one of the best places to truly eat awesome food. EXCELLENT staff with an incredible sense of attention and details. Unbelievable food that speaks for itself. 1000% recommended. One Must-try restaurant regardless of where you live or come from. It’s got the perfect combination of place, food, music, drinks and people.

Getting in from the parking lot was confusing. Restaurant atmosphere is traditional, more for business and dinner with your parents. It is expensive(22/30’s main course). I had tomato soup and med salad which was good and fresh with normal price. They serve bread with a type of tapenade which I found salty. I was alone there on a wednesday night. Service really good. Could come back for a work lunch. overall good experience.

If I had to choose a place for my final meal, this would be where I would order from. The staff is amazingly friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxing. But I can’t say enough about the food. The Portuguese mussels are to die for. There is nothing here that isn’t good. My personal favorite is the chimichurri tenderloin. It doesn’t get any better than that.

My wife and I went here before going to see a show, terrible experience from beginning to end. Arrived at the restaurant and he couldn’t find my reservation until I pointed to my name. Then we were seated and sat there as none of the 3 servers seemed to know who was supposed to help us. Once we got a sever, no mention of specials or anything like the other tables. We placed our order and an hour later had still not received our soup and salad. We finally received these items and they were decent, not great but it was salad. Then our entrees came out, we both ordered steak, mine with fries. Well, the fries were barely cooked and my steak ordered medium rare was medium on the ends and med rare to rare in the middle. My wife’s steak which was ordered medium was rare cold in the middle rare, sent it back and the piece she cut off was now well done and the rest, still raw. We did not pay for it but still paid for mine and left to make our show. Save yourself time and money and go somewhere, anywhere else in Appleton I promise it will be better than this place

I just went to this restaurant for the first time tonight. I really enjoyed it and would love to come back! We started with the fried goat cheese with honey which was pretty good and was definitely something different. I had the il Angolo salad which I enjoyed(especially the pear and orange) and then the risotto milanese for my entrée. The risotto was delicious! I would get it again and again. We also got desserts(chocolate lava cake and dulce de leche cheesecake) which were very good, but the highlight of the meal for me was definitely the risotto. Our waiter was also good; he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My reason for rating 4 stars was that the food took a little long to come out so our dinner was very long, but we were drinking wine and having a good time so we didn’t mind much. Overall, this is definitely a great place to check out! I’m baffled by the poor reviews here, but they all seem to be quite old and a lot can change in a restaurant in that time, so make sure to give this place a try!

We wanted very much to enjoy this place since it’s so hard to find an «upscale»(by Fox Cities standards) restaurant in this neck of the woods. We eat out more than we eat in and are constantly entertaining friends, family, and business associates from San Francisco to NYC. Sadly it fell short across the board. I’m not sure if our server was having an off night or was just totally unfamiliar with where he was that evening. Basic questions needed a trip to the kitchen for a response. We started with poorly mixed cocktails while pondering the menu. I chose the Mesquite Tenderloin and my dinner guest chose the Chimichurri Marinated Tenderloin. We both opted to «upgrade»(how ridiculous) to Caesar salads and chose two sides… macaroni and the potatoes. Crab cakes were selected for an appetizer. Finally we chose the wine. Moments later we were informed that they were out of the wine we wanted so we picked another. Then the server was back asking us how to prepare our steaks. Medium-rare for us both. Server is back again that now they’ve managed to find the original wine we chose and he places two glasses on the table. Neither the bottle nor the label was presented to us. This was absolutely not the wine we ordered. No clue what it was. Salads come and go. Absolutely nothing memorable about them. No taste to the Caesar dressing whatsoever. Presentation was also basically stupid. As we’re waiting for our appetizers, we notice that everyone else seems to be enjoying bread so we ask if we’re allowed to have some. Our response was«Oh, you don’t have bread?» to which we replied«No, do you see a break basket on the table?» So the bread comes and again, we shouldn’t have bothered. Then the main course is served. Oh well, I guess it’s not customary here to serve the appetizers before the entrees. My steak is cooked through and not even close to medium rare. There is no smell or taste of mesquite to be found. It was like eating air. My dinner dates chimichurri was also completely tasteless, void of any spice and the sauce was brown, not green. I’ve eaten everywhere from Green Acres to Greece and never have I been served brown chimichurri. The potatoes appeared to be re-heated and the macaroni must have been prepared with sea water. I’m still dehydrated from the abundance of salt. I tell the server that my steak is completely over cooked and he offers to take it back. I decline since nothing we’ve been served has been remotely adequate anyway. Moments later the chef appears and offers to put my steak back on the grill. Since it’s impossible to go from well done to medium rare(a concept apparently lost on him) again I decline. He would have to start from scratch and there was no mention of also re-firing my dinner dates steak. Since I wasn’t raised in the back woods, I wasn’t going to sit there and either wait for her to eat until my steak was done or have the two of us eating entrees at separate times. For his failings in the kitchen, the chef appears again with a free dessert. Don’t know what it was, but I can tell you it looked like a horse took three dumps in a trough like dish. Same story, this food tasted like nothing. The bill comes and we were not charged for the crab cakes(good thing since we never received them) and they waived the wine. Also not bad since it’s not what we ordered. As we left, two women employees(one appeared to be a manager who never once stopped by the table to see how we were enjoying our way overpriced dinner) were so involved in their personal conversation that they couldn’t be bothered to even acknowledge us as we left, say thanks for coming, or even a «see ya». If your palate is more complicated than the average Ponderosa or Perkins diner, this place will fail you. People keep comparing this place to a «big city» restaurant. It’s nowhere close and no, Milwaukee is not a big city. Save your money.

Took some clients here for dinner tonight and was very underwhelmed and disappointed. The bar has a nice atmosphere and I would go there again for dinner, but I would not eat dinner here. Our waiter started by seating us and explaining that he had only been there for 3 days. He then immediately asked us if we were ready to order(we hadn’t even looked at our menu). I tend to cut a lot of slack to the wait staff, but he needs same more guidance. There is a difference in trying to be engaged with a customer and trying to participate in our conversation. We were looking at getting some appetizers and our waiter suggested that we let the chef prepare a selection. We agreed and our table was quickly overloaded with 6 huge portions of appetizers. Looking at all of the food on the table that arrived after we had ordered our main courses it was clear that people would not be able to eat all of the food. He should not have allowed the kitchen to prepare that much food and he is to blame because he said the chef was going to prepare some samples for the table. Some appetizers were decent and some were not. I was honestly embarrassed for our server when he introduced the escargot as a cheese and spinach dip. I quietly corrected him, but seriously, how do you not recognize the serving dish that it is presented it? It can only be used for escargot. The shrimp with chipotle sauce was extremely disappointing. They fry up the shrimp and then cover them with a cold sauce. NEVER put cold sauce on a hot item. For my main course I had the steak and frites. The waiter didn’t know that this dish should automatically be served with fries, so he asked what side I wanted. I thought he meant what side I wanted to have along with the fries. My dish came out with just the horseradish mashed potatoes. They were cool to the touch, which is very disappointing. The steak tasted nice, but again do NOT serve a hot steak with a cold demi-glaze sauce! There is nothing worse than having a steak that tastes cold. I could tell that others at the table were noticing the same issues with food that was not at the proper temperature due to sauces being cold when served. Finally, there is the bill. The majority of the items showed up on the bill as «Miscellaneous Food» or «Miscellaneous Bar». Some items were detailed, but not enough of them to be able to check to see if the charges are correct. That is unacceptable for a restaurant to do. Our dinner for 6 people was $ 537.15. Yes, I could have brought all of these issues up with the management, however, I was hosting a business dinner and did not want to distract from the focus of the meal to complain in front of my clients. Would I go again? As I said at the beginning, only for drinks, not for dinner.

I had the Kobe tenderloin with the wedge salad and mashed potatoes with goat cheese. My husband had lamb with tomato bisque soup and jalapeño smashed potatoes. We shared bananas foster for dessert. Next time, I would do a different salad, a regular tenderloin instead of the Kobe, and an appetizer instead of dessert. The portions were enormous! My only complaint is the service. Our reservation wasn’t correct, so we had to wait a few minutes for a table. Our waitress was friendly but didn’t seem confident or enthusiastic about the menu. The service was SLOW. In their defense, there was a table of about 20 who ordered at the same time as us. We would go back.
