S’hug sauce is your friend! The gyro are awesome, the falafel is decent, and the staff was super friendly. The fries are seasoned with zaatar and are highly addictive. The chicken tenders are also tasty. There is a parking deck close by. Parking street side is limited.

Hate to say it guys, but this was… not great. At 3pm on a Saturday, the boyfriend was craving gyros, so we stopped in here, after dealing with the defective pay box for parking(wasn’t reading cards, and it was unclear if anyone was actually paying anyway). With just two other customers, the place was full, and there was only one guy working there. The boyfriend ordered a Greek salad with extra meat, I ordered my fave falafel sandwich and a side of hummus, and we paid on the iPad system(do NOT get me started on the automatic attempt to extract a tip!) and plopped down at the last available table. To be fair, the food was very nicely presented, though the cilantro and lime is something I’ve never seen at a Greek place — did we fall through a wormhole into a Mexican joint? My falafel sandwich suffered the usual self-destruction, starting with losing a piece of falafel as soon as I picked it up. Maybe I should just quit ordering this, but it seems to me that something billed as a sandwich should be edible as a sandwich without half of it falling out. The falafel itself was very uniform, suggesting that it was frozen, and was a tad overdone, rendering it not terribly enjoyable. The yogurt sauce on the side was nice, but the sandwich itself was dry(I added the sauce and hummus). The hummus was a disappointment — it needed more tahini, olive oil, and seasoning. A bit clumpy and super bland. The boyfriend enjoyed his salad, though the gyro meat was bland, bland, bland. Maybe I have just been spoiled by big city Middle Eastern food, but this cost $ 20 and was not that great, so I would not bother coming back. If this is the best Appleton has to offer, I think I’ll just go without.

Josef’s is one of the hidden gems of the fox valley. Anytime I’ve stopped by I’ve had great food. Don’t feel limited to the gyros though as the menu is full of great items. The best part of all though is the friendly service. Even though it’s usually a one man show when I stop in the staff and owner takes the time to stop by the table and check in. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick meal and friendly service.

The Parthenon(best Gyros in Madison) has serious competition in Appleton. Fantastic!!!

Best gyros in the valley. I’ve tried all the others and they do it right here. The small is the perfect lunch size while the regular is more like a two-person meal. The brown the meat and toast pita. The inside is pretty small but the outside tables are really nice on the quiet downtown street. I typically call ahead when I’m in town for work though it doesn’t take that long.

My husband and I were in Appleton for an early afternoon dental appointment. We always can agree on what to have when we’re traveling away from home for lunch. Gyros!!! Well, looked up on Unilocal and what did we see? Josef’s on Soldier Square a small hole in the wall right off College Ave in downtown Appleton. What a treat! I ordered the Greek Salad with gyro meat on top. It was cold, crispy, a fresh mix of greens and spinach, accompanied by fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, greek olives, and totally creamy feta cheese chunks. The best this side of Madison thus far. My husband had the gyro sandwich and a piece of baklava. We were thoroughly impressed. I took pictures to share… wish I would have taken them before we started though:-) ! Keep up the great work, Josef’s! We’ll definitely be back soon.

Awesome gyros! I got the slim gyro with fries and it was filling. The gyro is refreshing with the cucumber sauce. The fries were seasoned just right. Not much seating there. A few tables outside and maybe one inside but that wasn’t a problem for me. Wait time was about 5 minutes. Definetly will go back to have more gyros and try other items!

The food is decent but not worth the 30 minute wait. I went here today and had to wait 30 minutes for 3 small gyros with only 3 or 4 people in front of me.

Have been coming here for a couple years, was good before but now it’s great! Inside has very nice café look to it and patio seating outside. The new owner/chef has definitely stepped it up a notch the gyros are fantastic as well and the delicious seasoned fries! Portion are very big usually split a small gyro with my wife or if I’m feeling really hungry that’s more then enough. Will be coming back for more very soon!

After Josef’s moved off of College Ave, I thought my gyro connection was gone for good. Not so! My kiddo happened to notice it when we were in the parking ramp next to a small side street. At any rate, now that we have rediscovered Josef’s, I go to no other place for gyros in this area! Since we all like gyros in my family, the Family Gyro option is the way to go, about $ 30 for all the ingredients you need to make about 6 – 8 gyros at home.

Incredible. I wish I could eat here everyday. I had the big gyro, and it was everything I could have hoped for.

Very European setting, with just 2 tables, a counter, and a steamy kitchen. Gyros to die for. Glad to find them, glad to see that the area supports authentic Greek Food.

Hard to find(backside of College Ave.) but worth the trek! I agree that Josef makes the best gyro in the Fox Valley. Large gyro is very big. Need to ask for extra sauce because the cup they give is not enough to cover the big sandwich. Frys are nothing spectacular, they do have some type of seasoning on them but I’m not sure what it is. Small dining area, most people take there food to go. Gyro in a car? Sounds messy and possibly dangerous! Gyros make me want keep coming back.

I had Josef’s for the first time in a while for lunch today, but it’s been one of my favorite spots for gyros in the Fox Valley for several years. As other people have mentioned, the gyros taste great and the portions are HUGE. Seriously, if you get the Large size, prepare for a nap afterwards(save room for their baklava though!). On top of the food, Josef is great to his customers. When we had to wait a little extra for our gyros to get made, he offered us all a free drink(not the first time this happened either!). It wasn’t a big gesture by any means, but it was something that certainly didn’t go unnappreciated.

Stopped in for lunch today. Great little place. Their gyros are very tasty. Portions are big. Fries were so yummy. Chicken gyro salad was also pretty great. Couldn’t eat it all. Leftovers for later. Recommend this place for a quick lunch or dinner pickup.

The best in town without a doubt. It’s a small place tucked behind the main drag but it is more than worth your time to find it. We eat there almost weekly, and They don’t let you leave hungry. I get the Gyro every time evaluate it is made perfectly and he lets you add your own cucumber sauce, the hummus is awesome and the toasted pita is a perfect match. I highly recommend going.

Visited from out of town. Meh. It’s a gyro. The quality was average, and taste unremarkable, but I will give them one thing– the portion was ginormous. More sandwich than I could have eaten in one sitting. The spanakopita was tasty but greasy and could have been either drained better, or wrapped with a more absorbent paper to go.

Delicious gyros and homemade french fries. The pita bread and gyro meat is so good and their tzatziki sauce is great. The small is definitely enough food for 1 person especially if you get fries on the side. The prices are fair and the service was friendly. Can tell that it is a family owned restaurant and they care about the quality of the food they provide.
