Menards

Did not realize Menards ‘rebate’ program means that the ‘rebate’ is actually in store credit. Was unhappy to find out that after spending $ 70 on a shelving unit, that now I have to go back and give them more money. Won’t be shopping here anymore, hello Home Depot!

It’s cheap, it’s simple, and as no frills as they come. Took me about 10 minutes to find a sales associate on the floor. Come here if you know what you want, they have it, and you know where to get it. Otherwise, be prepared to pay for your item with your time searching high and low for it. Oh, and before you go to another Menard’s store, be warned that they don’t have a standard floor layout like Walmart, so the same things will be in different places.

The day Menard’s refused to help us, I called my credit card company and explained the situation. They promptly reversed the charge. I feel that this is the only reason the store now attempted to work with us. Especially since they said we were ‘unlucky’ and that it was ‘our problem.’
After multiple phone calls from various Menard’s people, the corporate office sent us a letter from their legal department threatening litigation. As a side note, it must of been a form letter since in the envelope were two other letters addressed to two different people also threatening litigation, clearly not meant for us. Of course this letter scared my mother and she called me. In the end, the store did not sue us and took back the snow blower. This was in the summer. A good 6 – 8 months after the purchase date, after a pretty bad winter. It’s just sad that they couldn’t be reasonable without all this drama. Apparently, the only way to get a reasonable response was to withhold payment. Only then was the issue ‘their problem’ as well.

We happened to notice a Menard’s while driving around Appleton. There’s currently a huge mosquito problem in Milwaukee and all the regional stores are out of pretty much any sort of mosquito control, repellent, etc., product. They’ve apparently had some trouble up north too, but I walked in and rather than walking around an unfamiliar store for ten minutes looking for stuff they might not have, someone was able to point me in the right direction and tell me the general situation (both about the mosquitoes in Appleton as well as what they had available).
Pleasant and fast, was in and out in five minutes.
