This bakery is in the same plaza as Din Tai Fung and Phoenix Food Boutique. After we enjoyed brunch at Din Tai Fung, I wanted to check this place out. The first thing I noticed while I walking into the bakery, was how spacious this place is. Majority of the restaurants we’ve ate at, in the same neighborhood, were probably 1⁄3 of this store. Since were were quite full from brunch, we left with 1 bread(cheese bread) and 1 slice of cake(chocolate cake with strawberries). This was our snack for later in the day. We ended up eating this about 2 hours later. The bread was soft with a slice of American cheese and a schmear of mustard inside. The cake was just okay. I thought the cake part was a little dry. Customer service was okay. The cashier didn’t seem too happy or maybe it was just too early for her.

Dis bakery is not the best but at the same time iz not BAD! No diggity that they kinda take a little ling long time to prepare the breakfast food that you can order and it tastes decent! My only concern is that although it serves its purpose, there’s nothing UNIQUE about dah prace(sorry if u read dis mr. jj bakery owner). I tink dis is not bomb but i haz no other optionz hence my moral decision of three starzies. :B

The last few times I went, the pineapple bread were overdone and way too brown, and the inside wasn’t as soft as it use to be.

I think the business seemed a bit more quiet and less crowded on my last two visits compared to a couple months ago. I am not surprised though. Their customer service is plain flat lousy. The people at the register look like they don’t want to work there in the first place. They have no smile, no greeting, no thank you, etc. They just ring you up, tell you the price of your purchase and give you back your change. Plus their prices were raised recently. There are tons of other bakeries in Arcadia that are opening, and they are much better in quality and service. I don’t think I will come back again.

Afternoon bread shopping on Saturday, 1÷23÷16 The bakery is finally opened. It’s a bit more spacious than the Arcadia location that I’m used to visiting. It looks about the same with breads along the side of the walls and the cakes inside their refrigerated display. They also have a few tables and chairs located inside. The first items I saw were the Taiwanese and Portuguese egg tarts. Both were good but I think I like the Taiwanese style one a little bit more. There’s also a decent variety of breads available. My favorite sliced bread is the Hokkaido flavor. I haven’t tried all of their drinks, breads and cakes yet but they look appetizing. If I’m in the area, I’d drop by to purchase some breads and maybe the cookies for an afternoon snack.

I’m shocked a bakery that has been opened for so many years cannot take simple instructions as, ordering a cake WITHOUT the fruits on top. The manager MayLing says ‘No we can’t do it’. I’ve paid for custom cake orders everywhere and never heard of not being able to order this cake with nothing on top. Can’t rely on them due to their incompetence. They don’t deserve my business. My money is best used elsewhere.

This review is for the cake I got here for my cousin’s birthday. It was a taro and red bean paste and pudding 12″ cake with glazed fruit on top and fondant wrapped around the sides. It came with a Happy Birthday sign and a couple of candles. Wasn’t offered the ability to write the message directly on the cake, but there wasn’t much room on top to do so anyway. As far as the taste, not really to my liking. The cake itself is pretty bland, and the pudding and taro/red bean paste doesn’t really go with the white cream on the cake. The fondant was hard and really bland. Glazed fruit is just meh for me. The price is on par with other local bakeries for a similarly sized cake. No qualms here. The store is always busy at all times for pastries. I waited probably 15 minutes to get in and out of this place. Staff is in a lets-move-through-all-these-people-as-fast-as-we-can mode, so not super friendly or anything. The parking lot is kind of small and if you come during dinner time when patrons are trying to get to Din Tai Fung and Phoenix, parking gets really tough to find. Not to mention the spots are a little tight. And with a bunch of asian drivers in the lot, just be careful. I’ve seen some people park in the neighboring Arcadia Supermarket lot and just hop the little 1 foot wall that separates the two plazas — not legal, but not sure anyone is keeping track. Not sure I’d get this cake again from here. I think a better value is the Mango cake from Olympic Bakery on Rosemead/Las Tunas.

I love the freshness of their pastry. I love the cakes. Not too sweet. Affordable prices. Wide selection. You better get there early or the selection get limited after certain hours. Parking sometimes is an issue here but it always depends at what time you to stop by. This place is always cleaned. They also have a sitting area where you can sit down and order some hot food for breakfast. It’s really good, you can’t get disappointed. 4 stars because you are just another«business transaction». There’s no «good morning» or «Thanks for your purchase» coming from the employees. It’s just«next» & «your total is» but besides that… no complaints :)

JJ bakery has the best pastries/bread/and cakes! I’m surprised the ratings aren’t better! Probably because most of their customers don’t use Unilocal since this spot is so OG! I just bought the best looking fruit cake here for my dad’s birthday and decided to write up a review since it tasted so yummy! They packed the top with so much fruit! I love it! I’ve been coming here for years and they still have the best breads in my opinion.

Big fun of roll cakes so drove a long way here(i live in woodland hills). Medium parking place but still busy probably because I came on Jan 1st… Anyway, after wandering among all goodies I finally got three cake rolls(golden coffee, cheese, almond), one puff and one cream filled chiffon cake, 2 cheese sticks + double cheese cake…(hope one day I would not die of diabetes…) they are all good and my favorite is the double. Will try pork buns, youtiao(Chinese churro) and taro buns next time

Got the Angry Birds Cake. It will be more $ 15 extra fees than regular 8″ cake for drawing + toys.

This place is crazy! I heard about long lines here but dang! So I came on a Saturday morning, after checking out their desserts online and saw they have Taiwanese style breakfast so made me crave some. So I wanted just that one thing. I walked in and immediately saw the item I wanted, which is on the counter, right by the cashier. Then, I saw the long line. «This is ridiculous», I thought to myself as I’m standing in line, with only one thing on my mind that I can see is right there but yet so far away. So I got out of the line, asked the cashier if I need to wait in line for, while pointing at, the item I wanted, which is right in front of her. She looked so confused or even scared to give me an okay to jump the line, she sought help from her colleagues. Finally, about a minute later, she said«yes you can come stand right here» while pointing at a shorter line. While I was waiting in yet another line I heard this guy behind me ask the staff across the room about his to-go order. He said he can see his order sitting on the counter, and asked if he needed to wait in(the long ass) line. The staff told him yes, and under my breath I was saying how ridiculous that is. Seriously, people with orders need to wait in line, just to pay and pick up? Then what is the frickin point? It doesn’t make sense and it’s just so stupid. They really need to have a Pick Up line to accommodate those people. I’m not sure what the hype is. The breakfast item I tried was just aight, nothing spectacular or extraordinary. I don’t think I’ll return.

JJ gives me a great excuse to drive out to the SGV to grab some yummy Taiwanese breakfast! My standard order consists of a fan tuan(rice wrapped around a oily you tiao and with dried pork) and a hot mi jiang(rice drink). Not the most healthy way to start a day but its real comfort food that makes me feel like a kid again! There’s also a ton of pastries and cakes to grab while waiting on a fresh order! Service is always fast and unfortunately none of the servers speak English so ordering can be a little bit tricky unless you have a translator. I’ve never had a problem finding parking but I can see the small lot filling up later in the day as the Din Tai Fung crowd starts to wake up and swarm the place.

Great Chinese bakery. Wide variety of pastries breads and other snack fair. Don’t miss out on the chicken or curry beef turnovers. They are fantastic. The pineapple buns are a personal favorite. Be adventuresome with your choices.

There are so many selections of Chinese bread here! I wanted to try them all, but I was full from Din Tai Fung. Regardless, I got two egg tarts, the mango mochi, and dragon tail hehe… My sisters loved the mango mochi. It’s basically sponge bread with a mango cream, covered in mochi. It was pretty good. However, I was blown away by the egg tart to pay any attention to the mochi. The egg tart was by far the best I ever had! The crust was like a sweet shortbread. It had a hint of sweetness and was very buttery and flaky. The crust already won me over. The egg custard … it was so creamy and eggy and milky and everything you could possibly want in an egg tart. I was full from DTF, but I finished the entire tart. I’m saving the dragon tail for breakfast tomorrow. Going to dip it in soy milk like you’re supposed to. The worker told me that they are opening a new location at Ktown. Can’t wait!

I love JJ Bakery! I walk into the bakery and you can smell the fresh bread being baked. This place isn’t as packed as 85 degree but it’s still a busy bakery known for the Taiwanese bread. The bread they serve are similar to 85 degree. Average bread is between $ 1 – 2 per puente. You have to come early to get the good stuff. The popular bread always run out fast but they always constantly restocking the bread as soon as possible. There is usually a line at check out but the line does move pretty fast. This place is also known for their wide dessert selections. They have sliced individual cakes, tiramisu, chocolate cake, mousse, and even creative birthday cakes with different cake flavors already made for pick up. They also serve sandwiches, milk tea, soy bean milk, rice burrito, egg tart, and bento lunch box. The prices for the bento lunch box are very reasonable. They serve popular rice bentos boxes like pork chop rice, Taiwanese stick rice, mince pork rice, Taiwanese sausage over rice, fish rice, red pork belly rice, etc. The food portion is decent, really good, and authentically made as a Taiwanese dish. Prices range from $ 4.50-$ 6.50. Such a great deal to pick up breakfast and lunch at the same time. The staff here are pretty friendly and they try to move the line ASAP. There are 2 registers running at all times. I can be in and out within 10 mins on average. Oh yeah. There are no places for you to eat. Everything is for take out. Note: cash only if total is less than $ 10.

Buns Buns and more buns! Or if you’re Asian, it’s Bao Bao! I’ve been coming here for ages, this is one of the larger JJ Bakeries I’ve been to. As for the baked goods here, it seems like they bake various time of the day. That’s a good thing because when I came here at 3pm, I found a few breads that was nice and warm. You can usually find those fresh ones on top of the cake counter. There’s so much selection here, I usually find myself spending more than I need to. They have the usual suspects like Taro and Red Bean and condensed milk bread and Green Tea. They also have some ones like Coffee or almond breads that are super duper good here. You can also find some fun-tuan(rice roll) and some asian drink goodies like soy milk here too. If you want something more exotic, you can always head across the lot to Phoenix. So this plaza is good eats, with DTF and all, just prepare to spend some hard earned cash because these baked goods are not cheap but slightly lower than that of 85C.

(Snacked 03÷22÷15SU @ 3:30pm): O.M.G…J.J. was more than O.K. After a day at nearby Santa Anita Race Track, one of my friends suggested we grabbed something sweet at J.J. Bakery right next to Din Tai Fung. A favorite of his, I was always up for something sweet, and boy was I in for an apparent treat! Did I satiate my sweet teeth!?: Green Onion Bread($ 1.20) — The vibrant specks of green color caught my attention coupled with the fact that I loved green onions, so I had to buy this; man, was I happy I did! The chopped onion was fresh and potent and the bread was flaky, soft and sweet. It had a strong resemblance to sweet Hawaiian bread — score! Triangle Chocolate Cake($ 1.25) — This spongy slice of chocolatey goodness with a thin layer of white creamy frosting was eating days later for breakfast… and it was still moist and fresh. Red Bean Sesame Bun with Mochi($ 1.45) — Round mound filled with a good amount of smooth red bean with a distinctive layer of simple mochi. And something about sesame seeds on anything really added more flavor. Butter Milk Bun Puff($ 1.50) — Of the four pastries I bought this one disappointed me the most. I expected some kind of creamy inside but I think I must have misread the description. It was simply a sweet puffy bread with not much else to it. Service — Happily greeted when we entered, this was basically a self-serve place like a grocery store. You grabbed a plastic tray at the door and went to town as you selected from the many wonderful edibles placed on the shelves before you . They had other treats in display cases which you asked someone behind the counter for assistance. We were rung up quickly and off we went for a place at one of the two tall tables. Napkins and utensils were at a separate counter once you paid. All was pretty hands-off and flowed easily. Parking(Free) — Located in the Baldwin Plaza outdoor shopping center, there were pleny of spaces albeit a bit tight. Otherwise, additional free parking was available on all surrounding streets. Atmosphere, décor, ambience — A simple bakery with all the goods on shelves along the front windows on your right once you entered, a refrigerator full of milk and teas off in a corner followed by a couple display cases festooned with a bounty of colorful and scrumptious-looking delectables before you reached the pay counter . There were two tall dark wooden community tables in an otherwise spacious and under-utilized area of the bakery to your left(an odd sign explained why chairs needed to be stacked away after 10am). Little to no advertisements or decorations were prevalent. Plenty of natural lighting came through the large glass windows while recessed electric lighting was present. There were no TVs or background music. Attire — Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, I wished I knew about J.J. Bakery sooner because I would’ve hit this place and stocked-up with a plethora of goodies before I spent my money at the race track(apparently you’re allowed to bring in outside food except alcohol!) on pricier food. But I was totally floored by the inexpensive prices offered here, and it seemed they also served actually food during certain times of the day at rediculously cheap rates. The hardest thing for me was to exhibit self-control and not buy one of everything! I found exceptionally good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above(total bill was around $ 5.00 before tip). And although they accepted credit cards, not my card of choice… AMEX! 4.5STARS

My review is solely based on their egg tart(dan tat) or egg custard. Came here after Din Tai Fung and was craving an egg tart. I was so glad I came here. Their egg tart was fresh out of the oven and delicious. It was really fluffy and not super dense like a lot of other ones that I’ve had. I will definitely come back for these. SOGOOD.
