I like the beef noodle soup it is pretty decent for the area. I don’t get anything else here.

This is my go-to place for down to earth, traditional, authentic Taiwanese food. It’s affordable, delicious, and just homey. Vicky is the best hostess you’ll ever meet. She goes above and beyond in making sure her customers are 100% satisfied. She even offers us free appetizers and checks up on you, something that is hard to find nowadays. Now the food. O my goodness, try it for yourself but remember to get the chicken, eggplant, and some dishes I only know the Chinese names and not the English haha but just ask Vicky for awesome recommendation. You won’t be disappointed!

Had been eating here forever until one day, my friend’s soup had a wire and label from an ingredient we think. We complained and the server grabbed the bowl and attempted to just throw away the contents of it and DIDNOT even apologize! I do not recommend this place. No wonder they were closed for a while due to some public health issues. Be warned.

What happened to this place? It used to be so good and affordable. This used to be my family and I’s go to spot for authentic and delicious Taiwanese food. To be honest, after Sinbala(down the street) opened, I forgot about this place. However, last weekend, I was not in the mood to wait in a line and had to grab a quick bite before heading out for the night. Sinbala had a line like always, so I decided to stop by this place after 4⁄5 years. I ordered the oyster pancake with veggies(A-Tsai). The vegggies were old and there weren’t any taste — veery bland. The oyster pancake had wayyyy to much corn starch and literally 3 oysters. Really? :(So sad… never coming here again.

Hole in the wall place with good authentic Taiwanese dishes. We normally don’t eat here because we prefer takeout. Get the chicken rice or pork chop rice dishes. Minced beef and egg on rice, tan tan noodles, oyster pancakes and plum green tea.

CASHONLY Not bad, cheap and convenient for me. I called ahead and pick up my lunch to go. This place does a lot of to-go orders during the week. Small place, service is ok, food is home style Cantonese and Taiwanese. The Hot and Sour soup and Shrimp and egg over rice were pretty good. $ 13.60 total. A second time I got the pan fried seafood rice noodles. I was expecting the flat rice noodles, but got vermicelli instead. Despite not looking that good, it had a good flavor. The seafood was pretty crappy though, imitation crab and fish balls with 2 pieces of overcooked shrimp and squid. I think there’s parking in the back, but if you’re lucky there’s street parking in front Located in the small strip shops next to Roma Pizzeria.

This place serves amazing Taiwanese food. All the nostalgic flavors of Taiwan. the oyster pancakes ones of my favorites… Everything is so good. good lord… Mays really nice. the portions are pretty big too. And also a big reason I come here is that everything is delicious and filling, Its also very clean. if you ask them to go low salt theyll do that for you. Mom and pop shop that gives me feelings of being in Taipei. Lol. I come here at least once a week. #mymouthiswateringup #writingthisreviewlol

My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for years, over 10 for sure. The ownership has not changed– it’s been the same Asian lady since forever but the chefs have changed recently. The flavor of food is a bit different but I wouldn’t say bad. Portions are generous and the food is fairly cheap. All dishes that we’ve had are good — it’s always a safe go-to restaurant that’s close to home. We always do take out and food is always ready in about 10 minutes. Favorites of the family include: spicy cucumber appetizer, velvet corn soup, both beef satay rice and noodles(noodles are similar to udon type noodle), shredded chicken fried rice, minced pork rice, mapo tofu. Restaurant is small but most patrons of this small hole in the wall typically do take out so there is never much of a wait at the restaurant. And as are most Chinese restaurants in Acadia… a CASHONLY!

One of the most authentic Chinese food in the area. Dont let their small location scare you. Their hospitality is amongst the finest. Must have if you’re in the area.

For all the years that I’ve been here(and that is like 10+ years. back when it was May’s Café), I have only ordered the«velvet corn soup» and nothing else. I’m sure all their other dishes are good or great, but I always go to Sinbala for my Taiwanese food fix. I go here for my corn soup fix lol. Sooo the soup. What is so great about this soup? Well, it’s ok. It’s pretty good. 3 stars. LOL it is just a good ol thickened soup, kind of like egg drop but with corn. I usually order one tub for 5 bux when I’m on a… «diet.» It’s cheap. Nothing out of this world delicious, but good for what it is. If I find myself here someday ordering something other than this soup… well, I’ll let you guys know how it is.

Everything went downhill since the owners have changed. Terrible customer service! The lady that manages the restaurant always have an attitude. The food doesn’t taste the same anymore because the chefs have changed. They should change the name of the restaurant to something else because the quality of the food is not the same as before.

Home-style Taiwanese cooking. Food is average but very cheap. Living West of Downtown means … very little Chinese/Taiwanese food and any entrée(for dinner) is usually over $ 10. Here, you can get a huge serving of noodles for $ 7! I had the seafood chow mein. It was so-so, a bit watery and not enough vegetables. The seafood consisted of one shrimp, one scallop and a few fishcakes… not much but what can you expect for $ 7? I tried the egg-oyster omelette — don’t even know how to pinyin that! It was filled with baby bok choy??? Since when does this dish have veggies? On top of that, the egg-oyster omelette was bland and watery. My dad’s egg-oyster omelette is far superior. sigh. I also tried my friend’s sausage fried rice. The consistency was off(again, too much water!) and it was bland. Cash only, small parking lot, efficient service.

This place may be hard to find because you can easily drive by this place without even knowing. There’s street parking or parking in the back. This place is pretty small with only like 7 tables to sit at, but don’t worry it’s not ever crowded. Mays is cheap! That’s why a lot of people come here. They have styrofoam cups as water, plastic spoons and plastic forks as utensils lol so it’s not a fancy place. Service is pretty good. They don’t know much English, but it’s not hard to flag someone down. Food: Mapo tofu: Delicious! It’s not spicy like it says it is though. Their tofus are a good size, nice and big, none of those small mushy tofus like other restaurants. The flavoring is always very yummy Minced pork rice: My boyfriend loves this dish, I don’t know why because I don’t eat meat, but he says nothing compares to mays minced pork rice Veggie fried rice: the first time I ate this dish it was so good. But the second time I ordered it, the rice was super watery and soggy. It was like soaked in liquid that it didn’t have that chewy texture of fried rice usually does. So I was super disappointed in that. Hot and sour soup: YUMMY! This is a must get. It’s not spicy like they say it is, but the taste is amazing. I love the ooey gooey texture of these types of soup. This is my favorite dish here :)

I practically grew up at this restaurant and have been going for several years. However, they have recently changed ownership and their chefs have changed as well. I ordered my favorite House Fried Rice, Beef Stew and Bamboo Pork Rice and was sadly disappointed. House Fried Rice: Same ingredients as before but it was very bland in flavor. Additionally, the rice was overcooked and was completely mushy. The fried rice came in clumps and was not appealing at all. Beef Stew: There were barely any ingredients in this dish and the flavor of the soup was completely different. Bamboo Pork Rice: Once again, their rice was overcooked and mushy as well. This was their white rice too! There was a fair amount of bamboo shoots on it but only three pieces of marinated pork. However, one piece of pork was actually all fat without any meat in it so there were only two pieces of pork in the entire dish. The side dishes that came with it were not as good as before either. I’m disappointed that the quality of food has changed since the recent change in ownership. We were hoping the food would have been just as good as it was before. Hopefully their food will eventually get better and they learn how to cook white rice correctly.

I’ve been eating here since 1996 and their taste have not changed! The restaurant is small with only about 5 tables and they have remodeled the place in 2001 and haven’t made any more improvements since. I rarely eat in the restaurant, usually I take it to-go, so the atmosphere doesn’t bother me much. I usually order the stir fried rice cake, combination rice, beef and tomato rice. It’s very simple and the food is comforting!

Good Taiwanese food and very good service, I always special request my dishes and they can always make it tasty even after I requested«very low salt, low oid, no garlic and no msg» I have no idea how they still manage to make it tasty. Price is on the low side and the food came out quick. The only thing I don’t like about it is the restroom is in the back side so you have to go out and go from the back door to get to the restroom. And of course another one of these cash only place is why I don’t come here as often.

A hole in the wall that has been here for quite awhile, here are some quick tips: 1. Located on Duarte Ave. between Santa Anita Ave. and 1st Ave. 2. Some street parking, but there seems to also be a back lot 3. Cash only! 4. C Rating by the public health inspector. I have nothing great to say about this place. When we went for dinner a few days ago I thought the food was pretty mediocre and some of the food was just not good. This place is a true hole in the wall. There are literally five tables that are in the store making for an awkward environment since there are several people that you may be very close to. Pretty much sardine style here. The service aspect is not bad. Because it is such a small space and only five tables to work, they require only one person to take orders, cash out checks, refill drinks, bring food, and take phone orders. We ordered three items, a pork chop rice plate, a pan fried noodle plate with seafood and chicken, and marinated pig’s feet. The pork chop rice plate was pretty standard stuff. There was some egg, some stewed veggies, some broccoli, and of course the pork chop. The only thing that was different was that they fried up some turnip pieces and pickled them too with some spicy peppers to give a little extra saltiness and kick. The pork chop rice was pretty heavily breaded, but the flavor was pretty good. Overall though, I was unimpressed. The second item, the pan fried noodles, were disappointing too. The sauce was incredibly salty, but I did appreciate that they gave a lot of meat and veggies on the plate. The noodles were harder and less than crispy. They were more tough even though they were soaked in the sauce. The waitress said that they were deep fried on the spot, but they tasted stale rather than fresh. The last item, the pig’s feet, was a disaster. First, the sauce was salty – a pattern that by now I understood was a regular occurrence. Second, they were very hard, as if they were stewed in a hurry rather than slow cooked to perfection. Lastly, one of the pig’s feet were not cleaned properly. There was still quite a bit of hair on the feet. Disgusting. For these and many other reasons, we’re not going to come back.

Decided to meet a friend for dinner inorder to avoid traffic and so that I could decide whether or not I’d purchase a certain golf club. Unable to decide where to go I left the decision making up to him. He opted for Taiwanese food and we ended up at May’s Chinese Restaurant. Approached the parking lot to see that it was filled, he jumped out so that we could grab us a table. I ended up parking on the street as the lot was completely packed. The restaurant is brightly lit, clean and full of people. We originally wanted to order the fried chicken leg on rice, but found out that they sold out… wth? I ended up ordering the fried pork chop on rice( ). The pork chop was nicely fried and was perfectly seasoned. It was also served with some scrambled eggs, veggies, and a piece of tofu. Only thing that wasn’t great was the tofu as I thought it was flavorless. We also ordered their boiled dumplings(forgot to take a pic as we were starving) which were pretty good. They serve the dumplings with some sort of soy sauce mixture which was pretty damn good. Needless to say we scarfed those bad boys down. Not the best fried pork chop on rice I’ve had but a close runner up. Oh how I wish they never closed the Tainan restaurant in SD. Typical Taiwanese food that is pretty good and had tons of people dining there and taking food to go. Will be back and hopefully they won’t run out of the fried chicken legs!
