Have been looking high and low for a GOOD Indian restaurant that serves quality food with quality service. I went to Khajuraho with my dad a couple of years back and enjoyed it. Some time later I went back and did not have the same experience and vowed to never return again. I went to Saffron in Bala Cynwyd about a year or so ago with my boyfriend and was so disappointed. The food didn’t even LOOK appetizing and, in my opinion, had no flavor and meanwhile as a patron you felt left on the back-burner! Vowed to never return again. Craved indian food tonight(especially Tikka Masala) and went online only to stumble upon Grub Hub which then led me to Laxmi’s. I figured i’d give it a shot. I LOVED it. I was happy again. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and my brother ordered the Laxmi’s Special Biryani and Garlic Naan to split. Everything was just how I imagined it should be… and we got it delivered! From making the phone call to them delivering they were so nice and accommodating every step of the way! My tikka masala sauce was pretty spicy but had GREAT flavor and balance. My brother’s Biryani was well done as well! Definitely going back again and bringing my boyfriend and my dad to relive a better experience!

Positively wonderful and should get much more service than Tiffin – larger portions, spicier/more flavorful food, and attentive service. I had the best Korma sauce I’ve had in years from here, possibly ever. The garlic naan was super butterly and fluffy and positively wonderful, not your typical naan. My new favorite restaurant on the main line. Will certainly be returning soon.

Ambience was great and service was a excellent. Buffet has good number of items. We also ordered Roti and I wish it was well cooked and biryani was also okay. Look forward to visit again.

My wife and I frequented Laxmi in Ardmore when it first opened and enjoyed it almost weekly since then as the best Indian restaurant on the Main Line. But times change and so did this restaurant. It is apparently under new management, and this new management appears, alas, not as talented as their predecessors. The quality of both the food and service have deteriorated lately. Most recently, we were the only table one evening, two soups were ordered, the orders were repeated by both guests and waiter to ensure accuracy, yet one of the soup orders was incorrect when served, albeit with apologies. The soup provided was overly salty, then the seafood kadhai was overly greasy. Although my wife was pleased with her meal, I will not soon return.

I wish I could give 5 stars! but 2 stars less for the fake accented server and for his arrogance! he didn’t even have the courtesy to fill our glasses with water. he was just trying to deliberately interfere with other Germans and French who were on the other table. They didnt look comfortable with his continuous interference either! Now why i thought of 5 stars. there is a female chef/cook called Kuldeep who served us the best of the best authentic dishes! Took personal interest and prepared the dishes to its best. couldnt ask for more! Initially, we had ordered aloo Chat. and it tasted very bad, the presentation was horrible too. looked like some mixture of everything. it is never like that. add to it was foul smelling papris(crispy chips!) We complained about it and immediately Kuldeep came and replaced it with the BESTCHAT. felt as if I was eating the chat in delhi, India. She apologised for what had happened as it was another cook who was not aware of how the dish has to be done! She later prepared the Tandoor roti and naan for us… just AMAZZING! malai kofta was another mouth watering dish that we had which has to be mentioned! When we got the replacement of the appetizer, the waiter said — it is the second dish!!! WTH!!! later we had to explain him… all the while, he was just ignorant about our table and just trying to chitchat with the ladies on the other table. regardless, whoever there want to try out authentic tasting dishes in this restaurant, ask for cook Kuldeep :-)(I dont mind if someone says I am marketing)

We really wanted to like this place, since we live two blocks away. But it simply can’t compete with Ekta in Bryn Mawr or Shere-E-Punjab in Drexel Hill. Arriving around 1:00 pm on a weekday, the lunch buffet had already been picked over quite a bit, and only featured two meat options — both chicken. The service was polite and attentive, but management really needs to put more effort into the food.

I’m writing this solely based on the service. I placed an order through the website. I also called to make sure it went through. The person on the phone barely listened but said that it went through. I gave them an hour to prepare the food because the person on the phone hung up after I asked how long it would take. I arrived at the restaurant an hour after ordering and they looked at me like I was crazy. They didn’t have my order in the system, and they offered to put in the order again and have it out 20 minutes later. No apology. It’s now been 35 minutes since they put the order in for the second time. I’m still waiting for my food and no one has even acknowledged that I’ve been waiting. They also insisted on swiping my card again, so now I have to call my card company and dispute the first charge. There’s an event going on here tonight, so I’ll give them another chance if the food is good when I finally get it. But they still should have been more apologetic.

I didn’t love this restaurant. They had a buffet, but the food was extremely americanized. The sauces did not taste authentic. I had a much better experience at Kabob & Grill on County Line in Ardmore. All the dishes made me feel like I was in India. Spices were perfect. Though the atmosphere at Laxmi’s was nicer than Kabob, the food was so disappointing that it was a waste of time and money. I would rather have great food in a small place like Kabob than subpar food in a nicer place.

Had a delightful dinner. Shrimp chaat appetizer was something new, so tasty I couldn’t stop munching on it. Chicken tikka masala and korma were just perfectly seasoned, subtle and tasty without being overwhelming. Chicken was soft and juicy. Even the basmati rice was cooked perfectly– best rice I’ve had. The service was very pleasant and attentive. Add in then byob and moderate prices, and it doesn’t get better than this. When you want an Indian fix, this is the best bet in the area.

Positives : 1. Food is good — mango lassi, malai kofta, chicken kadhai, garlic naan 2. Restaurant is clean. 3. Staff is polite. Negatives : 1. Ordered kathi roll thinking it was an appetizer. It was brought out after main course. Our waitress later told us that it was not an appetizer, while the waiter who brought it out was apologizing ! Confused, are we ? 2. Food was slow to come out even when we were the only customers present. They could only manage to serve mango lassi in first 30 minutes. 3. 3 people were serving us at different times, which seems odd. 4. Food was cold. 5. We wanted to carry our leftovers out. They brought the boxes to the table and wanted to pack it for us. We offered to do it, but the waiter insisted he will do it. Then the phone rang and he dropped the boxes on our table and ran off to receive the phone without saying a word. Then another waiter came and wanted to do the ‘important’ job of putting our boxes in the bag, which he did, but tilted the box and caused spillage. We found this funny !

Pleasantly surprised by Laxmi’s Indian Grille! This moderately priced Indian BYOB is nicer than its strip mall location would lead you to believe. Inside, the restaurant is tastefully decorated and soft music plays in the background. Our server was polite and attentive and recommended her favorite items on the menu. Our meal started with complimentary papadoms(thin crisp cracker-ish bread) with three kinds of chutney. After that, we had the vegetable samosas, lamb saagwala, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. While everything was very good, the chicken tikka masala was a standout, the sauce was very piquant and flavorful. The curries can be made spicy to your order, we ordered ours medium spicy and that was perfect for us! We used the Groupon offer which gave us $ 15 off of a $ 30 food order. Our bill before the discount was $ 38 which I thought was a fair price, but with the groupon it was a great deal! The Groupon is only good for the Ardmore location, which is their newest one(they also have restaurants in Manayunk and East Falls). The BYOB also makes this restaurant a good value, brlng your own wine or beer from home, or purchase from the state liquor store or the Beer Shoppe in the same shopping center. Overall, I recommend Laxmi’s, and would return.

My boyfriend and I have been here twice, once on a Friday night and once on a Thursday night. Both times there was only a few tables filled, but service and food were outstanding. They have a great house salad for only $ 3! We shared the chicken kathi roll, you can either get fries or a salad on the side. Both are awesome. I literally dream about this kathi roll, it is amazing. We also love the lamb curry with rice. Sharing those three things are a perfect amount of food, and we still took home some lamb curry. Definitely going to be back soon.

I give it three stars because service is really slow. Otherwise, I thought the food was excellent. We tried the assorted appetizer platter(meat), chicken vindaloo, naan and keema naan. Everything was piping hot when it arrived to our table. The platter was delicious and tasty, the chicken was on the dry side, and the naan was warm and fluffy. I would love to come here again and would recommend it. If you’re not the patient type, beware of slow service!

Okay, this is where I fault Unilocal for not allowing us to review a restaurant’s food and service separately. I’ve been to Laxmi’s 2 or 3 times now. As others have mentioned, the food is great — fresh and, typically, hot arriving at the table. The tomato soup is superb and the vegetarian dishes are great. First time we went, I had a lamb curry(don’t remember which one) and it was delicious. Last night tried a biryani and it was rather disappointing(dry and significantly over-cooked). If you could review a restaurant on food alone, it would probably be a 4 or 5. The bone I have to pick with Laxmi’s is the service. On our first visit, the food took forever to come to the table; the owner/manager explained that the kitchen screwed up the prep and since we deal with a food allergen issue, that was fine. Last night, it again took forever, but this time you can’t just blame the kitchen staff. Servers failed to refill water glasses — even after the 2nd time we asked for water. They left dirty plates on our table and others where diners had finished meals and left. They knew little to nothing about the menu and what things taste like. So Laxmi’s Indian Grille gets 2 stars — averaging the food(4 stars) and the service(0 stars).

I’ve since returned to Laxmi’s, trying the weekend buffet once more. The food was improved over my first visit. One standout was the chicken makhani – the makhani sauce was the silky, ghee-rich, spicy, tart stuff of dreams. Really quite good. Some other dishes were still fairly lackluster – goat curry was bland, with indistinct flavors. At this point, I’d say Laxmi’s weekend lunch buffet is a reasonable option, although not the best in the area.

I was between 3 and 4 stars, but decided if I was hesitant that would be a reason to go with the three. Went here with a friend who is a fellow fan of Indian food for dinner and was disappointed that the buffet was only for lunch, but no biggie. We each got a curry entrée — paneer tikka masala for her and lamb masala for me. Both were good, I think the paneer was a little better than the lamb simply because the lamb(the meat itself) seemed pretty bland, though it had a good texture. Taking two stars off because when we asked about getting more papadums and then later about raita there were charges for both($ 2 and $ 3, respectively). I do kind of mind paying in the first place but I also felt these charges were quite high. I also felt like the price for the curries was high in comparison to the serving size, though they were very generous with the rice. Also, we ordered an appetizer of samosas and kheer for dessert. Samosas were great and big, but there were only 2. The kheer neither of us cared for, at all. The flavor seemed odd(maybe too much cardamom? It was hard to pin point) and it was very gloopy/thick and the rice very sticky and mushy. It’s hard to describe, actually. It was a very different texture than any other kheer I’ve ever had. Positive points: They heard it was my birthday, and they also brought us a complimentary galub jamun. It was the best I’ve ever had, but they only gave us the one ball(they weren’t obligated to give us anything, I know, it just seemed odd.) And I appreciate that they are offereing the $ 5 for $ 10 Unilocal coupon, without which we probably would’ve gone to a different restaurant(but again — a caveat — cannot be used towards the buffet). I may be back, but it would definitely be to order the lunch buffet on a weekday, when it’s $ 10. Apparently the weekend buffet is $ 13.

We ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken korma, they were very flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The manager took his time to explain the foods to us and our waitress was attentive and friendly. The desserts were divine! We look forward to coming back to try their lunch buffet!
