Wilkinson nursery is a gorgeous place I have been visiting for years. It’s location is set back off a side street in a remote partially wooded area. The long driveway off the road up to the main entrance is so beautiful. On your left there is a large park like setting with large outdoor trees, shrubs, & natural stone for sale. On your right, you will find more acreage filled with arbors, flowering shrubs & fruit trees. When you get to the main entrance & parking lot there are several green houses on both sides you can shop & wander around in. They are always filled with the most stunning seasonal plants & flowers. One spring they had a giant koi pond display right in front surrounded with Japanese maples & ferns that was completely stunning. That was the spring I purchased my natural stone bird bath & water feature. All the water features are right in front by the main entrance & that is not by accident. I have been told it is good feng shui to have the water flow towards the house. This feng shui rule is said to be good to apply near an entrance as it brings a calm, tranquil & peaceful element as well as good luck. The one I purchased is two giant natural stones, one is the base & one is the top. It was quite expensive & very heavy. It took three people to lift it. I have had it several years now & it’s one of my favorite things I have placed in my gardens surrounding my lake-house. I have since added a Buddha head & some other stones to the top. I can see it close up from my living room through a giant 15 light french window. I’m not so sure about the good luck part but it brings me great pleasure to watch beautiful birds splashing around in it all day long ;) The people that work at this nursery really know their stuff. I went from not knowing how to plant anything to having stunning landscaped grounds in 12 years. Part of the credit is due to their expert advice on the surrounding areas high temps/drought resistant plant choices, general care & maintenance techniques. The color blocking techniques & mass plantings in heights as well as odd numbers really made a splash in my gardens. I learned all this from having lengthy conversation with these folks over the years. They are always willing to help. Having experienced the mildest summer this year, my gardens have never looked more lovely. From the 83 photina I planted down the back fence line that are 30 feet high now to the 40 feet of limelight & oak-leaf hydrangea under the pecans down the driveway that reach the front gate. I get so many compliments. The 3 fig trees in back are doing great now that I have planted the giant oak to give them more shade as the mimosa tree lends color & interest to the corner among the bradford pears & italian cypress trees. The peonies in front mixed with the Indian Hawthorne, purple & bronze shasta daisies, coleus & lilies was a marvelous surprise. The addition of the rare black crape myrtle that blooms bright red blooms is hubby’s favorite tree now. I also love the outdoor shower area by the pool that has a lattice trellis covered in hot house cucumbers & purple morning glories. WOW. Beautiful & tasty :)’ lol I could go on & on about my wild blackberries, blueberries, asparagus patch, sunflower garden, herb container garden, field of watermelons & pumpkins, but I have some gardening that needs to be done! lol The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies. Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul. Thank you for all the wonderful gardening tips over the years. I couldn’t have done it all without your expert advice, quality plants & service. Its time to stop by for the vibrant fall mums, then, holiday poinsettias. I am a little sad that summers end is here. But once again spring will come & we can do it all over again. Well done! See you soon :)
