Serious concerns about the lack of conversation with young children. Staff have been observed using cell phones during the work day. It is unclear if the staff is highly qualified in child development, or they just hired anyone without a clue on child development practices.

Having used two military Child Development Centers(CDCs), I must say that this is one of the best in the DC area. However, be prepared for a long waiting list — it took my pre-toddler almost nine months and my toddler over a year to get in. But well worth it. The CDC does a great job of ensuring it hires care takers, puts them through their certifications, and monitor their performance. They also stay in constant contact with the parents, to include sending links to their lesson plans, sending notices homes for parents to help on certain skills, and provide you with an assessment of how your child is doing in the center. For the money you pay, scaled by your income, you can’t beat the price. If you’re a military or DoD employee and need reasonably priced care for your child, this is the place. They also take your child on field trips, hold festivals and parties for the kids, and take great pride and interest in their development. My pre-toddler is already doing things my toddler couldn’t do at his age(the eldest stayed at home for a while) while the toddler caught up and already surpassed the developmental expectations for his age. Great place, great care, great service.

For the money alone you can not beat the military CDC’s period. Here in the Arlington area the prices they charge are a godsend. The quality of each room is top notch and the cleaning régime is conducted daily, keeping the entire facility emaculant. All the caretakers are friendly and really care for the children. They are also trained and to the best of my knowledge hold certifications. When we were looking for child care we were informed that they must hold state and local certifications and are checked by the military. They have early drop off and pickup till 6:30pm. Meals are prepared and served on the premieres, breakfast and lunch, with and afternoon snack. They play areas are great and because the facility is fairly new everything is in great condition. My one knock would have to be the teaching régime. Kids learn to be very independent, inter-act well with others, and the basics. Our problem was we felt they could had a program to really concentrate more on writing and math basics. All In all this a great facility and from checking with friends in other CDC’s this is the model program for the military.
