Hackley Movers

These guys did a great job for me a couple of weeks ago when I moved from DC to Brooklyn. They loaded my U-​Haul truck in DC.
I had A LOT of stuff, which barely fit (a couple of things actually wouldn’t go) into a 15-​foot U-​Haul truck. They did a really good job of getting it loaded and making maximum use of the space. They had a great attitude, even though they were moving me out of a 4^th-​floor walkup. It took a while to get the job done, but as I said, it was A LOT of stuff, and there was no dawdling or anything, just a lot of hard work.
The price was extremely reasonable. Overall, I was really pleased. They took a lot of stress out of moving day for me.
Also, they met me at U-​Haul in the morning and drove the truck to my apartment for me. (I’m not comfortable driving anything that large.)

I had a very bad experience with this company. There were many issues with the job we hire Hackley to help with. They didn’t send the right amount of workers, the workers were unprepared for the move, they were 35 minutes late to the job (and did not call us to inform us they would be late), and Mike Hackley and the movers were very difficult to get in contact with. We ordered their service around 7:30am and could not reach them until after 1pm. Then we could not reach anyone for several hours to follow up with them. My furniture was damaged in the move and the operator on the phone arrogantly blamed everyone else for the issue even though his workers were at fault. The workers did not take proper care with the furniture in the move and had to be instructed on how to properly move the pieces. One of the movers kept complaining and mentioning that he didn’t want to complete the job. Do not bother with these guys. There are plenty of other options out there!

Mike Hackley runs this company and seems like a pretty good guy. I was moving a well-​established 1BR apartment using a u haul. I initially booked two helpers for two hours, but later adjusted this to 3 workers just in case. When the guys showed up, only one of the gentleman had a good attitude. One was pretty flat out rude, but nothing that was terrible. He couldn’t communicate in English anyway. The guys ended up taking 4.5 hours to move my stuff, even with 3 guys. There was one time they all disappeared down at the u haul for about half an hour. They did a good job packing an undersized u haul (my fault), but taking that long ended up costing me a lot more than anticipated. With better attitudes I’m sure it would have worked out better.
For reference, the same truck was unloaded by two guys in 45 minutes on the back end.

Hackley Movers saved our move! We came into DC after a three day drive and these guys really saved us from a miserable experience. They showed up right on time and got to work. Within an hour and fifteen minutes our trailer and furniture was unloaded and in our 6^th floor apartment without a scratch. They are well worth the value and come at a fraction of the price of other movers. I’ll be using them again in the future!

I just used these guys in conjunction with a POD to move out of my 4^th floor apartment. My fiancé and I are going into a temporary housing situation for a few months before we relocate to Atlanta from DC. To save money, we decided to use a POD with shipping and find an affordable moving company.
These guys had the best reviews on Uhaul… and were extremely amazing. No complaints about the 4 flights of steps. Not a single scratch or dent. Even told me to stop grabbing heavy boxes because I was moving stuff down too. All and all… they took 1.5 hours to get everything into the POD. They stacked and organized it really well.
This is a hell of a value and the only way I will move in the future in the DC area. Michael Hackley clearly knows how to run his business the right way. I have a friend that will be moving soon and I will absolutely be referring them to Hackley. There’s no use in breaking your own back when these guys can move a 4 room, heavily furnished apartment in 1.5 hours down 4 flights of steps.
Plus… the way my friends drink… the old pizza + beer in exchange for moving… probably more expensive than hiring these guys.

Was a little weary of booking through my Uhaul reservation but it all ended perfectly. I booked the week of New Years so I called the following Monday to confirm they got my reservation, which they did. Derek called when he was on his way Saturday AM and they had our 2 bd apartment load/​unload done in 1.5 hrs. Packed the truck like magicians and were very polite and careful with our belongings. Very pleased with our experience!
