I love Reed’s. I appreciate a great experience and this place has it for sure. I have had almost 11 pieces altered here so far without any complaints. Most of these negative reviews are due to people not being able to communicate effectively and not heeding warnings. Know what you are looking to have done before you walk in and understand what the ramifications may be on the garment.
I will continue going here. And you know what? When something comes back that isnt perfect. I will have a effective and adult conversation with the tailor on how we can fix it.

Our son’s favorite leather jacket had a lining that was in shreds from 20 years of wear since we gave it to him for a special celebratory milestone. He looked for a replacement leather jacket and could find nothing comparable for a fair price. Reed’s to the rescue. They replaced the shreds with fine satin-​like lining and rebuilt the inside leather pockets and labeling exactly like the original. It’s very handsome. Reed’s is a neighborhood treasure for your finest tailoring needs.

I have NEVER been so poorly treated by a businessman. He argued with me when I wanted him to do basic requirements for a tailor — measure to make sure my dress is even on both sides. The dress has lines of beads on each side, and it would look odd if they were uneven (it does look odd, since he ended up ignoring me and altering it unevenly, completely ruining the dress). He kept trying to tell me that «humans are uneven,» ignoring the fact that we stand differently at different times, and that dresses (especially those with embellishments like lines of beads that you can see) are generally cut evenly for a reason, let alone the basic requirement for a tailor — you do what the customer asks you to do. When he did alter the dress, he ignored my request and altered it unevenly. To make matters worse, he only altered the outer layer, making the lining come out below the bottom of the dress on one side. I pointed out that it didn’t do that before he’d altered the dress, and he went ballistic, literally screaming at me in front of all the other customers that I was being «dishonest» because I was «blaming him for something that he didn’t do.» I’ve taken the dress to another tailor to try to fix what he screwed up, and it’s unsalvageable. So, for a LOT of money (this place charges MUCH more than any place I’ve ever gone to), I got screamed at in front of other customers for his mistake and a completely ruined dress. STAY AWAY!!!

Overall, pretty good service. I had several suits tailored here. The owner recommended a rather tailored fitting that ended up being too tight through the middle for me. He fixed one of them for free, which I appreciated. In the end, I’m exploring other options.

I’ve been coming to Reeds for about 3 years now and probably dropped off about 6 — 7 skirts in the past six months to be altered in one way or another. I have never been disappointed in the quality of work and my skirts have come out fitting seamlessly! My skirt alterations have ranged anywhere from $ 25 — $ 48 (major rework in sides and waist on a wool skirt) and I’ve always thought his prices were reasonable. Usually he turns around alterations on a single piece in a week but may stretch to 10 days with multiple pieces and his workload. I highly recommend him for your alterations!

This was a great overall experience. Tailor was very friendly, informative and thorough. I was very happy with the end result too. And the amount of work needed on my suit and shirt was comprehensive. Hemming the pants, shortening the sleeves, bringing in the center/​back of the jacket, and shrinking the shirt overall. Pricing was in line with my expectations, even threw in a small discount for the bulk work

Met with the owner to go over the details of slimming down my coat. It was a little complex because I was taking it down from a 12 to a 4 – 6. I was relieved when he told they could do it after so many people had told me no. When I got the coat back it was perfect and he charged me $ 35 less than originally quoted. Will come back for all of my tailoring needs.

I’ve been going to Reed’s for 4 years; 90% of the time for getting my (always too long) off-​the-​rack pants hemmed or suit jacket arms shortened. Although I haven’t done a lot of searching, $ 18 for a pant hem seems fairly standard – and for somebody who can barely sew on a button, that’s my penance! Turn-​around is sometimes a week; sometimes two, neither of which are unusual in this area.

Another bad experience. A family member was fitted for a tux, bringing his own shoes, and then inadvertently left the shoes behind at Reed’s after the fitting – a fact we only discovered the night of the event. Voice messages left on Reed’s phone were not returned, and the guy in the shop was surly and argumentative about handing the shoes over when we finally went in person.
Excellent service would have been calling as soon as the shop discovered the shoes left behind. Good service would have been making a note to hand over the shoes when the tux was picked up. Passable service would have been returning our phone call to say that, yes, the shoes were there. Poor service would have been handing over the shoes without a fight when we asked in person. We got worse than that. Don’t think we’ll be going back!

I have the same issue with this place as the other negative posters: I had something done that I was unhappy with, and when I brought it back to have it fixed, I got major attitude and was told that I could have it done if I brought it back next week. I needed it that weekend, which I understand is a stretch, but maybe not when I had specified this from the get-​go, and when the problem was his to fix.
It was pretty heartbreaking to buy the perfect (not to mention very pricey) outfit for my 10 year college reunion and then have to wear something else because the person who was supposed to perfect it actually made it worse.

I don’t usually post if I’ve had a negative experience, because I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt; everyone has a bad day. But this guy seems to have too much business as it is and doesn’t seem to welcome any more. Both his attitude and unwillingness to help me any further – because he’d «already done me a favor”– demonstrate that.
So save yourself, and him, I suppose, the trouble, and bring your clothing to someone who is happier to exist.

I took a pair of pants here for a simple hem after reading the good reviews. After measuring me, quoting me about ~$ 18 for a simple hem, he said it wouldnt be ready for another month, like it was no big deal. A month for a 15 minute job. When I picked it up, I realized he didnt even use the original hem for that price, and gave me an attitude when I asked about it. When I inquired about getting a pair of suit pants narrowed, I was quoted almost $ 100. This guy may be a good tailor, but his prices, attitude, schedule and demeanor will not have me returning.

had been using a guy out in annandale and looking for a good tailors for some time. heard about farid. gave him a try.
to start, i brought in my simplest job — a single pair of slacks for hems. he offered me a pick up two weeks out. ok. when i returned for the fitting, they were off. WAY off. i told him. i showed him. the attitude i got surprised me. instead of simply FIXING it, he began to tell me HOW it got that way and, (as he put it), that it was ME who was wrong, not the tailoring. i got a rather pushy argument. and then — another two weeks.
he finally got it ok,
but was it really worth that kind of hassle? i’ve lived in the middle east and dealt with that stuff before, but here, it sure seemed out of place. and at these prices (about double an alteration shop) — its just wrong. still searching.

Reed’s did a great job at getting my dress and my date’s suit tailored in time for my friend’s wedding. Very skilled and helpful. Real friendly guy. A little pricy but you get what you pay for.

they do a really nice job. The guy takes good measurements and the tailoring is great. Would be five stars but for the snotty attitude, high prices (around $ 60 for just suit sleeves and a pant hem) and kinda of slow turn around (over 2 weeks). But if you have something nice to tailor, they will do a good job and you will just have to deal with the cons.

I’ve gone to Reed’s before to get a number of suits altered becayse of some Unilocal reviews. It’s not cheap, but they do very good work, so I pick and choose which clothes are worth enough for me to get altered here. Even though the typical turn around is two weeks, the owner, Farid, got it done for me in one when I told him I needed the suit jacket for a wedding. He didn’t seem pleased, but still did the work early and did a fine job. I’m sure he gets these stories all the time, but in my case it was legitimate! All in all, I’d deduct a half star for the prices and a half star for the consistent two week turn around. Otherwise, Reed’s is a great tailor.

I have been a customer of Farid now for between eight and ten years. He is a great tailor — and everything that I buy off the rack goes to him. Also, anything that needs to be altered also goes to him as well. He gets things right the first time, and if you start going to him regularly he knows your body type, as well as what you like and don’t like in tailoring (i.e. cuffs in suit pants, full break, etc). We need to keep great small businesses like this alive in Arlington!

I bought a Ben Sherman suit for a crazy good deal but it needed some tailoring. I looked around online buy everything in my area was poorly reviewed. Then I found Reed’s and based on the reviews, I gave it a shot.
He is fast, professional, and witty. As far as price goes, i was very satisfied. True, you may be able to find a cheaper tailor out in the burbs but this guy knows his way around a suit. Don’t take chances. Go with Reed’s. My suit truly fits like a glove.

I want to take a moment to formally thank you for all the time and effort you put into creating my perfect wedding gown with just a picture and some fabric. You created the most amazing dress I have ever seen. My friends and family still talk about what a beautiful job you did. You are one talented tailor and so great to work with. I will continue to refer you to my friends and family.

I’ve never had to get a suit altered before, so, with an off-​the-​rack suit in hand, I ventured onto Unilocal to find someone who wouldn’t totally mangle it — I was a groomsman in a wedding and we were all buying the same suit, and this was the last one in my size.
The storefront itself is pretty tough to find, and parking is even more difficult, but once you step inside you get the sense that it’s a no-​nonsense establishment. Once I explained what I wanted to the gentleman behind the counter, he directed me to the dressing room to change into the very loose-​fitting suit. He then had me stand in front of the mirror and started pinching the fabric every which way, making marks with chalk. He asked a few questions that I wouldn’t have known the answers to if I had not researched suit fitting beforehand (e.g. «How do you want the cuff to fall?»), but, other than that, this first stage was fairly quick and painless. I was in and out in 15 minutes.
I came back in a week’s time, as instructed, and my suit was ready. I went into the back to try it on… and it fit. Perfectly. I gratefully paid him and was on my way.
At no point during my time in the store did they try to upsell or market anything to me, which was refreshing. The only downsides I can really think of are that it was a little more expensive than I had thought, and they don’t leave the tags with the washing instructions on (as mentioned in some of the other reviews here).
The suit made it through a night of heavy merriment without any damage to the seams, so the quality of Reed’s work is more than acceptable. I’d recommend them to others looking for a tailor in the area.

I used this store’s service when I had to go back to the UK to the British House of Lords for an event. Reed’s could not have been more helpful, and we made a price for the rental, even though I’d need a few extra days.
