Wow I was so happy with their service and they did a great job putting a lot of meat on the sushi. Price is a little expensive but it is worth it!

Great food. I eat a good amount of Japanese food and this was as good or better than any other restaurant of its kind! Try the ginger ice cream… it’s spicy!

I came for Happy Hour and it’s my new favorite place. I ordered eel, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail nigiris. I also got the California roll with roe. The eel and salmon were so good. The rice was delicious and greet. I also thought the hot tea was so good. I think it’s barley tea. The California roll was meh and I’m not going to order the yellowtail or tuna again but I’m already back for the salmon and eel!

Our second time here and as good as we remembered. Miso soup was delicious and the chirashi special $ 25.49 was fresh and very nicely presented. My 10 year old daughter loved the Unagi donburi &20.49. I would give 5 stars but the salad had too much dressing, there is no children’s menu, and other tables were given better service than us. Overall still a very good dining experience. We’ll be back!

I can’t say enough about this place! I’ve lived my whole life in Arlington, and as a self-proclaimed sushi enthusiast, I have tried my fair share of sushi restaurants in the area. This is hands down, with no competition, my favorite sushi spot. The sushi can get a bit pricey, but it’s well worth it. My favorite roll is the spider roll(soft shell crab and avocado), and no other place in Arlington rivals it. The fish is always fresh, never funky. I’ve never tried a roll here and not liked it. Even if it can get pricey, they have an amazing rewards program. You are regularly given holiday specials($ 10 off!), as well as racking up points for how you spend to get more $ 10 off coupons. They have plenty of ways to get points other than just spending money. They also offer random surprise gimmicks, and fun ways to get free stuff! The staff is amazing!!! Brian is the regular sushi chef, and he is sweet and personable to bits. You can tell his enthusiasm and love for the craft of sushi by just one conversation with him. I recently visited and was served by Tint, who was incredibly prompt, personable, and gracious. The rest of the staff always greets every single customer, and says goodbye to you, even if they’re all busy! An amazing and friendly atmosphere. I always, without fail, recommend this place to everyone I know. I regularly bring in friends, and it doesn’t take long until they get hooked on it too! I’ll never stop going to Sushi-Zen!

Sushi Zen gets my business only because it’s the easiest thing to get to from my place. The food here is middle of the row. It’s fresh enough that you won’t really complain, it’s not super fast or slow, it’s not a great price, and no one is going to make you feel super welcomed. On all accounts it’s average. I will say that the last time I ordered take out from here that there were bones in my sushi which is pretty horrifying. That was the only time I’ve experienced that of the dozens of times I’ve visited… but now when i think of going it makes me nervous. The way to do sushi zen if you want take out is to go in and order, then walk to Harris Teeter and shop for wine while they make it. When I order on the phone, often times I come in and it’s wrong. In their defense, I never have corrected them when I’ve had a phone order mixed up. All in all just an average if somewhat dangerous sushi option that I will probably be brave enough to try again in the near future.

Enjoyed time with some family this evening and glad we chose Sushi Zen. Some in my family ordered the Tempura Udon! I snuck a sip of the broth — it was excellent. I ordered the Katsu Don. I was wary at first(I’m a picky eater), but it was actually pretty good. Customer service was great! Got to meet the owner who had a pleasant disposition. Hosts worked as a team. It was pretty busy while we were there. It was a little bit tight where we were seated(we were a party of 6), but all in all it was a good time with good food and great company! I will be making another visit to Sushi Zen soon!

Water smelled and tasted like fish yuck The leaf decorations smelled like dirty rag For the order wrong by giving us scallop instead of octopus, so took the scallop out after being touched and brought out the octopus after going back and forth three times… Couldn’t help wondering if they would recycle the scallop

We were the«Oh No» family with a toddler spilling miso soup and then screaming about it and a tired baby that wasn’t crying but certainly prevented us from all sitting down and enjoying a nice meal. the waitresses helped us clean the mess with a super pleasant attitude and even got us a fresh bowl of miso. Class! I ordered some veggie rolls for the 3yr old and boy was I happy when she refused the tempura sweet potato roll because they were very delicious! The salmon & avocado rolls were reasonable portions, quality fish, and well made. Thumbs Up! The special roll(forgot the name) was excellent as well. I used to frequent SZ many years ago but had moved on to fancier/newer/closer places. After this trip… I think I might be coming here a LOT more because the quality and preparation seem to have improved. Next time, i think my wife would suggest we get a sitter and have a Date Night and enjoy some Sake too! in spite of our kids getting slightly out of control… thanks for the great meal Sushi Zen!

One of the freshest no-frills sushi places around. Free soup and salad with your sushi makes it all the more worthwhile. Local gem. Bonus — always busy but never crowded. Great attentive service too — fantastic waitresses. One more thing, my kids love this place and great kids menu.

Alright, so I just moved here from LA and I was on the way home from work and I saw this place and thought I’d give it a shot. And I was BLOWNAWAY. It’s some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, hands down. It was so good that, so richly full of taste, that I had to sit and think about it between bites. It was AMAZING! And the service was top notch. The ladies that were working there were super sweet and knowledgable and sushi chefs are very nice too. Will definitely be coming back, a lot. Thanks!

My friends took me here for my birthday. The food was good and I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about the place. They have other food if you don’t want raw fish. I only noticed that because a few of my friends got steak or chicken and not sushi. The staff was super nice and service was good. It was a little difficult to find but otherwise good. The place was packed.

I’m lowering my previous review out of disappointment from my recent dining experience. I picked up lunch to go the other day and was extremely disappointed that they put a hot and steaming deep fried roll inside the same plastic to-go container as my completely raw sushi roll. The result when I got home was a soggy friend roll and a steamed raw roll that was completely unappetizing(picture sweating raw tuna that was turning light pink from being cooked by the steam). Also, both the salmon and tuna in my rolls were very fibrous and full of sinew. I felt like I got the reject cuts in my roll. The roll slices were also cut extremely large and could not be enjoyed in one bite as they are supposed to be. I did not enjoy my rolls and was very disappointed. The miso soup was delicious as always but the salad dressing was more mayonnaise-y than I remember. However they were very generous with the to-go salad, which is often not the case at sushi places. The teriyaki lunch special was delicious and no complaints there. They were also very kind and made special child chopsticks for my son which was a very sweet gesture that did not go unnoticed. I’ll be giving sushi-zen another shot because I’m such a long time customer but was very disappointed with my most recent visit.

Great sushi. Inexpensive. We’ve been there twice, once for sushi and once for noodles. Both times we were happy with the results. Taste was on point for the cost. The decore is charming, reminds me of something out of San Francisco. One of those hole in the wall sushi spots. Service is prompt and polite. We will be back.

What a great find for a sushi restaurant in Arlington. Tried many sushi spots in DC and VA and this has been the best so far. Ordered the Virginia Roll & Salmon Avocado. The salad dressing was yummy also! If you join the rewards club, they will give you a coupon for your next visit.

Lunch review … I have to admit the quality of their teriyaki chicken and veggie/shrimp tempura bento box was on point. It was really tasty! I got it to-go, and my interaction with the lady who took my order over the phone and the ladies who welcomed me when I came in were pleasant and hospitable. It would be worth trying their sushi… it’s just a matter of when.

I love me some sushi and this place delivers on all fronts. I just had an extravagant birthday dinner with the works. Sashimi. Nigiri. Rolls. Tempura. Miso soup. It was all delicious. First things first: The spicy rolls are actually spicy with a good kick to them which is really hard to find. The sauces they put on everything somehow tastes fresher than other places I’ve been to. Also they had uni that was perfect. I mean I am trying to think of a downside to this place. The service was excellent and very friendly, the amount of fish you get on each piece is beyond generous(Honestly the rolls were just filled to the brim). The owner and his son work behind the bar making everything which is adorable and authentic. This place is a rare find if you love sushi go here and order everything.

Just a follow up review to share how great the food and service is at a Sushi Zen. I love coming here — it’s always friendly with a greeting the minute you enter the door. The servers are friendly but not pushy(I hate the server who has to check after every bite if things are ok… Trust! If there’s something wrong I’ll find you.) always quietly refilling your hot tea and water, and if you sit at the sushi bar you’ll get a warm greeting from the chefs, too. So on top of the great service, you get great food here. Tonight I had a sashimi appetizer with Toro and New Zealand Salmon — for only $ 16! Combined with a couple of rolls and I’m one happy man! The food is always awesome, but tonight’s was just a little more yummy because of the sashimi. The food is prepared with lots of TLC — all of the sushi chefs take pride in their work. Don’t just take my word for it — this place was Best of Arlington 2014 for best sushi.

This place is a neighborhood gem. The Cruncy rolls, Blue Fire and Outrageous rolls are some of my favorites. I like that the sushi is moderately priced but very good quality. The sushi chefs do a great job with the presentation of the sushi as well. For those who don’t like sushi as much, I would recommend trying their sweet potato roll(tempura sweet potato inside a roll) or their chicken teriyaki dish. They make their own teriyaki sauce. The miso soup and the salad with ginger dressing is very good. Staff is very friendly and I love sitting at the bar to chat with the sushi chefs. Please look no further than Sushi Zen for some great service and quality food.
