Yikes. My mom drove up to Pismo Beach to spend time with some family members. She brought me back two cupcakes from The Art of Cupcakes. What should be considered a treat turned out to be a punishment. I got a cherry vanilla cupcake and their version of a DingDong, though it was still a cupcake, so they don’t know what they’re talking about. The cherry one was the worst. It came topped with a maraschino cherry. The frosting was so artificial that it tasted almost spicy. I didn’t even taste the vanilla cupcake because I was so put off by it. Next was the Ding Dong(which was still a cupcake). The chocolate ganache tasted alright. The chocolate cupcake underneath was moist but lacked flavor. To be honest, it tasted like a box mix. The whipped cream filling was skimpy and it had a weird cream cheese flavor even though it had the consistency of whipped cream.

Art of Cupcakes offers the PERFECT two-bite indulgence. But, it is IMPOSSIBLE to decide which Art of Cupcakes treat is my favorite! The Chocolate Port cupcake featuring a dessert wine from Morovino Winery in Avila was FAB. But I think the best of all really has to be the Apple Pie a la Mode cupcake. Sweet, but not too sweet. Perfect creamy frosting with little bits of spiced apple. My sister disagrees and votes for the Olallaberrie Cupcake she had at the Avila Farmer’s Market this past summer. And, of course, my husband voted for the Ding Dong cupcake. I guess Art of Cupcakes really just can’t make a bad cupcake. And I just saw their Tinkerbell cupcake on Facebook. While they may be designed for kids, I’m going to get them for my upcoming Girls Night Out birthday party!
