I just like this place. Plain and simple. The beers cold the pizzas free and the place has character

The appeal of this place is largely the free pizza. They have a simple ticket system which gets you one pizza per beverage, but BEWARE: if you don’t remember to ask for your ticket, you must be prepared to shimmy your way back through a sea of belligerents & send smoke signals if you want service. This place has more security than Michael Jackson’s kids at Disney land, and they pace the length of the bar-probably getting their steps in for the weekend warrior Fitbit challenge. With that many dudes, you’d think they’d all have respective stations around the building, like gargoyles perched on their pedestals; to loom and inflict terror when necessary. I think they might be filming a documentary about excessive security staffing, but I haven’t gotten the confirmation from TMZ yet. The peeps huddled around the bar had cemented their feet to the floor,(the cement truck was just leaving when I got there) so I did what any college educated gal would do and turned into plasma like Alex Mac so I could reach the front. Once there, I promptly retrieved my flint from my trusty deerskin satchel and in no time at all, I was greeted by unfriendly bartender lady. She was not thrilled that I was a girl, & not some college kid who would tip her with all the money he got from his financial aid refund check.(Bar Lady– if you’re reading this, just know you’re not alone. I’ve worked in the hospitality biz and I get it-you hate your life. Just know that this is all a means to an end. I have faith you. Keep on keepin’ on, my fellow oppressed twenty something female!) Ok, so level 1 complete-only 25 minutes into this bitch and we got a beer! *throws coins in the air* Level 2 – pizza time. This level is known to be far more strenuous and challenging than the first. Think American Ninja Warrior, but worse. You must be trained in body and mind. So I’m now on line, bright eyed and bushy tailed; eagerly awaiting pizza. And bar lady innocently forgot to give me a ticket, so I just had to take a quick boat ride across the Atlantic to find the holy grail and soon I was back in biz! So I’m on line-all the while being touched by the less than wholesome passersby Conveniently, I’m also super approachable looking so ppl love to treat me as the parting of the red seas when they want to cut through a crowd. Bonus points to me for being an involuntary humanitarian in this thing we call life. We wait about 40 mins & during that time I buy drink #2 from the bar next to the pizza line. Perfect! I now have 2 pizza tix. Score! **Disclaimer: J Mac’s notifies you, with a very official ordinance written on a napkin taped to the bottom of bar, that pizza is given out 1 per person.** So if you bought multiple drinks, you must get back on line for more pizzas. Fair enough. I respect this rule & I understand why it’s enforced. I’m now getting closer to pizza Valhalla & I notice the woman in front of me just did the impossible-she was handed 2 pizzas. Did her hurdle over that fire pit before the quick sand obstacle earn her immunity to the 1 per person rule?! I knew I needed the fire proof shoes! Thanks mom! I wasn’t sure what was happening, but I was excited that the pizza man was feeling liberated tonight. Bad ass, pizza guy. Burn those bras! It is now my turn to slay the dragon and save the princess-the only course standing between me & the ultimate prize. Humbled by this experience, I bow my head as I present 2 tix, which signify that I’ve slain the dragon, saved the princess, & killed Lord Voldemort. I’ll solve any crime by dinner time. Then, something unexpected happened. Like the excrutiating sting of your first eyebrow waxing on a a questionable looking table in a dumpy nail salon, I winced. The fear in the room was palpable. In that moment the pizza keeper had done something that would make the capitolists of Panem look like Mickey Mouse. Aghast, I held up my 2 tickets. He then gave me a look that told me he was envisioning my head hurdling through the air. Then it happened. He shook his head no. All at once the room came to a silent halt. Security chief #67 stepped up to intervene. «But sir, the woman in front of me was given 2 pizzas. Why do I not deserve the same right?» #67 was deep in thought. «NEXT!!!» screamed the gustappo, and a lone, sad pizza was shoved in my direction. Overwhelmed by the pizza nazi’s sudden reign of terror, #67 mustered the confidence to form the words, «it’s free pizza, you can’t complain.» And away I went, puzzled and dumbfounded by the events that had just taken place. We no longer speak of he who shall not be named, or the events that took place that day. I walked away from all of it knowing things would never be the same. It changed us-all of us… But really don’t go to this bar.

This is a very serious dive bar with great deals. Their free pizza comes out slowly but you can’t complain about free stuff.

Such a cool place, so much to look at. There are even games on the lower level. There is a hidden antique furnace filled with candy, you get a free mini pizza with the purchase of a drink. This is just such a cool whimsical place. I’m not huge on crowds or drinking, but if my friends want to go somewhere, I like to suggest here!

I am a sucker for a great deal and this place gives you the best balance of cheap and great ambiance. The drinks are about $ 5 and come with a free personal pie with every drink! Sadly we did not have the patience to wait online for our free pizza, but it is great to know that they provide it if your hungry or being bit of a reckless drunk. I am also a huge fan of dives, especially in a place like Asbury where bars need to have some character. This has both an outside and inside section, I personally preferred the outside area — UNITL it started raining. There are trailors outside for bathrooms and normally this would automatically put me off, but these were the cleaniest and nicest bar bathrooms I have seen in a long time! They also have a ton of security, which I was happy about considering it was pretty crowded there on a Saturday night. Overall, Johnny Mac is a winner in my book and I look forward to coming back and finally getting a piece of the pie!

Anyone complaining about the bouncers at JMac’s are the people who give them problems. I’ve frequented this bar for some time and I’ve never seen them kick someone out without reason. JMac’s is an awesome to hang because of the bouncers– they always manage to keep a packed bar relaxed and fun.

Johnny Macs is a must when visiting Asbury Park for COUNTLESS reasons! To start, with every drink purchase the bartender gives you a ticket, this ticket entitles you to a free personal pizza towards the back of the bar from a brick oven. Who can beat that? The drinks here will not kill your wallet either as a beer can range from $ 3 to about $ 6 for some crafts. Even better is on Sunday mornings and afternoons when JM serves $ 3 mimosas and bloody marys, and instead of pizza they have a custom omelette bar going until about 2pm! I am a sucker for the outside bar and sitting area of JM as well, its one of a kind and a guarantee you can find something new to look at each time you go! Cheap drinks, free pizza– what more could you want from a bar?!?

Every wonder why Asbury Park gets a bad rap? One visit to this place and it will be pretty clear.

Bouncer wouldn’t let us in because my friend said«my face is up here» while he was staring at her boobs and then he said you can’t come in because I don’t like your attitude. Management wouldn’t do anything about it.

I am not a big fan of Johnny Macs. Yes, free pizza & cheap beer, but I think I’m past being satisfied by that. The place is dingy & loud. They do have a rather nice outdoor area. I give the owner a lot of credit for what he does for the community but this place just isn’t for me.

Typical packed bar… Free pizza with drink order which is a major plus. It’s nothing to write home about, but hey, it’s a free bar snack. The bartenders are not really friendly, maybe even erring on the side of cold and rude. So the first time I went it was in the afternoon, not that busy. Ordered drinks and she gave us a ticket each. Being my first time there I had no idea what the ticket was for because she didn’t say. So when I finally got her attention after she was leaning on the far side of the bar on her phone, I asked. «For the pizza,» was all she replied and walked away. It took me asking another person at the bar what you actually do with the ticket. You have to go to the back bar and put in your order. Kinda took a while for it to cook, but again, it’s free.

There’s something about this bar that makes it better than any dive bars in the South Jersey where I live. Maybe it’s the free pizza all day, every day special. Or the fact that the beer is really cheap. Or perhaps because they have a ski ball tournament every Tuesday night. Or simply Johnny Mac’s Tavern being a bar that makes you feel comfortable with its relaxed atmosphere. How about all of the above!

Free personal pizza with every beer?! That’s what I call customer service! Every bar in America should follow suit. Just make sure you ask for your ticket when you order a beer. The inside of the bar was nice. A little crowded in some places, but the outdoor patio is great. A lot of space to hang out and hear the great music.

Love this bar, love the décor, bar pies, skee ball and staff! My only concern is that while sitting at the bar with my friends, an older gentleman(who later in learned was the owner) verbally berated a staff member! He was rude, condescending and miserable! He was loud and obnoxious, pointing in the employee’s face and berating him in front of a full bar! I spoke to the bartender and security and they completely defended the owner, probably because the owner bullied them too!!! I will not return for that reason alone! I think the bartender alerted the owner because as we were leaving, the owner followed us to the corner! DONOTGIVETHISRUDEMANYOURMONEY!

I hate this place. I’ve never eaten here so I don’t know how the food is but I have no earthly idea why it is so popular. I was dragged there yesterday night and It was so terrible. Way too packed. Everything is too far away. The people who frequent here are trash. I really don’t get the hype. Maybe it’s better when there’s sports on? Idk I felt Like I was at porta except more disgusting.

If there was one word I could use to review Johnny Mac’s with, it’d be «eclectic». Possibly«weird», but not at all in a bad way. JM’s is like a dive bar and a TGI Fridays had a lovechild — the walls are covered with all sorts of zany stuff, the atmosphere is totally a little«rough around the edges»(once again, a good thing!), and it’s a fantastic little local pub ‘n’ grub for any night of the week. The bar has your fairly standard beers and boozes, as well as a good handful of craft brews and whatnot. Prices for beers range from $ 3 for things such as Yuengling, to $ 5 for craft — not at all bad, especially considering each drink comes with a ticket for a free pizza. You heard me right, for every drink, you’ll have the option of getting a free personal pizza from the back, with any toppings costing $ 1 extra. Best yet, it’s actually fairly tasty stuff, and a smart move by the bar — it keeps you there drinking, while also filling you up so you don’t get *too* trashed too quickly. Outside there’s a «beer garden» area with another bar(although I’m pretty sure it’s the same offerings as inside). A neat hangout, although I didn’t spend too much time out there since the music was utterly blasting, and a huge pet peeve of mine is not being able to talk to my friends while drinking /eating. The inside was fairly manageable though, not too loud, so hey, they catered to both groups, I guess. I’ll be back here again — I’m sure of it. A great little place to wind down after work, or even start /finish a «pub crawl» of Asbury’s fantastic bars!

Came here on a Wednesday night(Ladies night). It was my first time here and I was impressed with the layout. Its a very big space that is indoors and outdoors. They have free pizza that you earn a ticket for when you get a drink. I know my friend didn’t get it with her beer drink but I did with my vodka drink– so not sure what the rules are for it. It was $ 5 for house vodka and $ 7 for titos. $ 3 for miller lite, bud lite, and yuengling I believe. They had tvs on outside, a variety of games, tables to sit at. I also saw a sign for free omelettes on Sundays. I would want to come back and try that out. I was pleased with this place and would definitely come back.

I came here by surprise on 06÷12÷15. I was visiting my friends who resides close by and his sisters where there. I noticed when walking up the overall crowd seemed a bit younger then myself but was ok with that. I walked in and was surprised on how big the overall place was. The interior design of the restaurant was unique for sure. They had cool quotes written all over, unique pictures and the overall layout was nice. There’s also quite a few bars. I believe two inside and two outside. We got there before it got really crowded and was outside majority of the time. They have a big tent sent up with big bar underneath it. It’s not much of a dancing place but do what makes you happy. The drinks were reasonably priced and they have free pizza, but I’m not one for waiting in line for a pizza the size of my hand so I passed. They had televisions set up nicely for patrons inside to watch which was awesome. The one thing I really enjoyed was the DJ. He played some great music all evening and it made me feel as if I was in high school again. The good old days as we say. I didn’t drink much but still had fun and would be for sure going back when in the area next time. The bathrooms were easily accessible and didn’t have to wait in line so that’s a big plus. The bouncers were nice and not the usual«tough guys» at least that was my experience with them. They have basketball and other games you can play to keep you entertained. There’s a lot of good things to say about this place. My only con is they should limit the amount of customers they allow in the place.

I definitely prefer Johnny Mac’s over Wonder Bar. The vibe here is great — very divey but at the same time, it’s really spacious. There is a large outdoor area with its own bar. The place is decorated with all sorts of ephemera — it’s cluttered but in an interesting way. Dim lighting inside — which is always a plus in my book. Oh and let me not forget the free pizza. One beer = one ticket for a free personal pizza. How about that? You can’t go wrong with an endless amount of free pizza. There is Skeeball downstairs and ping pong tables outside as well as cornhole. You can play beer pong on the ping pong tables but you have to play with water and then just sip from your beer(at least that’s what we were told by the bartender).
