This was my family’s favorite place to go for lunch on Sundays. We were regulars. They knew what we ordered every time and we didn’t even have to ask, just«the usual.» We are very sad to see the signs taken down and the place is closed. :-(

If you are looking for an alternative to Subway, Quizno’s, Blimpies, then Spicy Pickle is a good choice. We were actually heading into Moe’s when my wife had a change of plans. She said lets give that place a try since we’ve never been there before. When we walked in it was empty just employees. We didn’t know what to do, but the guy at the front walked us through the menu. Now this place is pretty much like other joints. They have a specialty menu of popular sandwiches or you can make your own. You pick a bread, meat, condiments, and all the toppings you want. We both decided to make our own. My wife got some ham sandwich with cheese and some other junk. I got the spicy turkey with some flavored mayo, pickles, bacon, and a whole pile of other peppers. They good thing is they don’t charge you extra for bacon. That’s a huge plus for me. MMMMBACON! Both of our sandwiches were piled high on chibatta bread. Also ordered were a small potato soup, a small crab soup, and a grilled cheese for my daughter. The soups came out pretty fast, both piping hot. The glass bowl it was served in was huge, I asked if this was a small and he said yes. The sandwiches came out and they were huge. I decided to finish my crab soup first before I ate the sandwich. I was pretty stuffed after that soup, that I was only able to eat half of my sandwich. I’ll tell you what, the sandwich was excellent. It had a nice fresh flavor to it. Everything tasted great. I really can’t complain. My wife like hers a well and said she was glad we came here. The potato soup was good, but I think the crab was better. So if you are in Ashburn and want a tasty sandwich then give them a try, I don’t think you’ll be let down. The place is clean inside, the people are friendly, there is plenty of parking outside, and you can get free BACON!!!

I have had a few different sandwiches from this place — I can’t ever taste the ingredients in the sandwich, only the bread. The baked potato soup is pretty good. Service could be much better — the people there tend to be not so nice. Its ok as a change of pace for the soup.

I really like Spicy Pickle. My husband isn’t a fan but I love being able to make my own sandwich. There are many choices of meats, cheeses, and toppings.

This is a self-service restaurant but I have, on occasion, seen a gentleman watching the tables and offering to remove the sandwich trash or to refill drinks. The sandwiches are nothing to write home about but the ingredients always seem fresh. I usually wait until I arrive to choose between the Spicy Pickle and Five Guys next door.

When I’m in the mood for a good sandwich I come to Spicy Pickle. Their Santa Cruz sub(6.95) is awesome! It has a smoked turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and a great corn relish. The corn adds a slight sweetness, the cilantro a great freshness and the jalapeño’s a slight kick… mmmmm. Add to that a creamy chipotle mayo. The sub is a generous portion, but even if you get full you will continue to eat because your taste buds become addicted to the flavor. At least that’s what happens with me :) All sandwiches come with a spicy pickle spear. I love it, it’s spicy without being overwhelming and just compliments the sandwiches really well. You can also build you own sandwich and they have tons of choices!, have fun, get creative. They have salads, panini’s and soups. I’ve tried the loaded baked potato, the she-crab soup and the chicken noodle. All, but the chicken noodle, are flavorful and heavy. These are not diet soups. The staff is always friendly, they take your name when you order and they will call you when your order is ready. They actually pronounced my name right the first time, I was impressed :)

Hey, the pickles *are* spicy. And they offer fresh brewed ice tea with lemon slices(a big plus in my book — I hate that Nestea crap). I got their Santa Cruz sub(subbing pepperjack for the cheddar); it was very tasty and mega. I took half home for the next day’s lunch despite some ribbing from my co-workers. They also offer Miss Vickie chips and Izzie’s sodas. A nice change from your run-of-the-mill Potbelly joints.

I’ve been wanting to try this place because I find the name to be intriguing. I couldn’t figure out exactly what kind of restaurant this was from the name. It’s a sandwich shop! But a really good one. Honestly, I couldn’t find this restaurant at first. It’s over by the Embassy Suites in Ashburn off Waxpool, in the same strip mall as Five Guys. This little restaurant plaza is so pleasant! The flowers & promenade are well-tended & there’s a pretty little fountain for making wishes, too. It’s relatively easy to get into the parking lot; getting out was another story. I think they need a traffic light there(sacrilege!). So just take your time getting back out onto Waxpool. Spicy Pickle has lots of selection on the menu for your sandwich choice: paninis, subs, & build-your-own. Also a nice list of salads & soups, too. My son(15) got The Italian, a panini with traditional Italian meats; I got the Sinker on honey wheat ciabatta, a tuna salad sub with a nicely-spiced sauce(not too hot). Each of us also got a small soup(I got baked potato, based on the friendly & helpful cashier’s recommendation; my son got she-crab [the cashier said that was quite popular]). Our sandwiches were truly yummy! Everything on them was fresh(veggies, meat, cheese). Mine was tasty because of the unique sauce(a horseradish base but not so much of a bite as to be overwhelming). The tuna salad was obviously house-made because it didn’t have that ordered-by-the-bucket taste & was obviously fresh. And get this: the pickles served on the side are SPICY! ;-) The set-up at this restaurant is you go to the cashier & order your food, get a receipt & your soda cups & serve yourself to your choice of fountain drink. Then you sit down & the cashier or other server brings you your food. I really liked that. Again, our cashier/server was friendly without being overly familiar. He brought out our soup almost immediately(with a side of bread) & it was good & hot. We had a chance to sit & enjoy it before our sandwiches came out, which again the server brought immediately to our table. The baked potato soup was good. I know this sounds like a total«duh» but it had too many chunks of potato(like Campbell’s Chunky Soup)! I always think of the book Fast Food Nation & how it educated me about how cheap potatoes are for restaurants. I always think the restaurant is just trying to save money by serving things with heaps of potatoes in them & charging a huge markup. But it was okay, & hot(I’m a long-time mom so when someone puts a plate of hot food down in front of me, I’m usually happy no matter what). My son liked his she-crab soup. I sneaked a taste & it was good(seemed like is was not house-made). And it was small: maybe a cup of soup for $ 2.75. My son loved his panini & was impressed with the Spicy Pickle on the whole(which is saying something). Altogether I spent just under $ 23 for the two of us & left a dollar tip in the tip jar(which was truly well-earned). I found this place to be head & shoulders above Quiznos & Panera. Quiznos’s sandwiches just are not anything outstanding IMHO, & Panera is so expensive & I think overrated. I also find Panera’s things to seem so over-processed(especially all of their baked goods which just don’t sit right with me). I also think, of the three, Spicy Pickle is less expensive.
