The Ashborough Apartments

New issue. The pump now turns on every 15 seconds for about 2 – 3 seconds all day long… Still no fix. Came home after being out of town for a weekend to find a blower in garage and a leaking hot water heater. One week and still no fix! Not a return call as to why they didn’t let me know they put blower in garage. On top of that… The on line rent payment was a compleat disaster.
Fire control valve room compressor shakes entire unit and is very noisy. I was told this is normal. It keeps me awake all night. Furnace set at 79 for over 24 hours and temp still is 71. Dog crap everywhere and overflowing trash and recycle area. Broken security gates throughout property. Renter beware. Poor customer service.

DO NOT lease an apartment from these people. They are TERRIBLE. The maintenance staff is overworked and cannot take direction. The management is unprofessional, condecending, and downright rude. Everytime it storms the parking lot is filled with pieces of shingles from the roof. There were several water leaks in my apartment. After telling them several times to call before entering my apartment they would still just walk in. They dont do any preventive maintenance on anything. They just wait until it breaks to address it. I finally had to break my lease and leave. Not only are they trying to charge me for not leaving the right keys but also carpeting that was in great condition when i left & also a piece on the microwave that came off. When I try to talk with someone about the charges they ignore me for weeks at a time (at the corporate level as well. Do yourself a favor and LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Just FYI when we moved after living there 18 months, the gate worked for a total of about one of those 18 months.
Did enjoy the location though.

In reading other reviews i am glad I agree with most of them. I lived SEVEN years here and could not wait to leave (I’m in DC now). Those many years allowed me to see changes in the management which turned the office into a cold, and rather unwelcoming place — probably a reflection of the current manager who seems to find very difficult to engage people.
For a guy who lived there so long, I should have been treated with more consideration when a problem ensued. It is really not difficult, but you have to be a people person if you want to be a truly good manager: it has to start at the top.
In contrast to the ad, I did not find the community to be «up-​scale» at all, except on the looks. Just check how garbage was disposed by its inhabitants: true third-​world picture!
Pity then the place is made so unfriendly by its people because the location is pleasant, good walking trails, and maintenance responds quick to any problem. But for the price, which does not include any utilities, I was out of there with joy.
Addendum: turns out I forgot my Comcast modems while I moved. Now comes Comcast a month later asking for them. Do you think the Ashborough had the courtesy to save them and call me? Of course not. They threw them away. So much for seven years living in a «friendly» place.

Pros — lots of parking, close to grocery store and a few restaurants.
Cons — perpetually broken security gates, which make advertising it as a gated-​community, moot.
Dumpster area is always a mess. They do not have enough recycling containers, OR they do not empty them frequently enough. Add to that fact, that a lot dumb and lazy people think mattresses, bed frames, book shelves, etc are recyclable; the net effect is an area that looks literally like a dump.
Ceilings are thin — can hear neighbor’s squeaky mattress (hmmm lol) and squeaky floor joists.
Ants.
Birds are nesting in many of the dryer vents. Lots of bird poop dribbling down the fronts of the buildings where they are nesting.
There are worse places to stay in LoCo. But, for these prices, the place ought to be better than it is.

I moved because of the Ants. The ants coming up from inside the apartment on the THIRD FLOOR. I have never in my life heard of ants getting so deeply infested in an apartment building, to the point at which they are this high up.
They absolutely refused to address the root cause of the issue. They would come out and ‘spray’ every week, which did nothing. We had to buy our own ant poison just to ward off the onslaught we experienced for over six months.
We even went to the office to talk to them in person about it, because we felt like they weren’t taking out complaints seriously over the phone. The lady in the office had the audacity to regale us with a story about how she «left a cake out one time» and ants got everywhere. Subtly implying that my fiancé and I were leaving a trail of sugary treats out like Hansel and Gretel or something.
When they asked us to state why we were leaving on the renewal form, I drew a nice picture of an ant for them.
Don’t rent here unless you like having ants everywhere.

I have been at the Ashborough for almost 2 yrs. Since Dec 2012 I would just like to say. Yes I pay for a gated community. It Is Not That !!! The gate works on and off all the time it ‘s been broken down for months now and seems it will never be fixed. Management changes every 6 months they change all the time. Very rood, they don’t return phone calls, I had a maintenance issue to get work done in my apt. I went online and submitted that 2 weeks later nothing done .I then went to the office to report it to get something done. This is what it takes to get a problem fixed back and forth This has happened numerous times. Last yr 2013 the hot tub was not working from July till Sept it was never fixed. This yr the hot tub was very loud and noisy pools nice and clean. My lease is up on Nov 4^th. The management wants a new lease signed 2 months ahead of time they start bugging you. My yearly lease went from 12 months to 10 months. We were unsure if we wanted to stay feeling my husbands job was close to being let go. On the new lease options it said there was an option to talk with someone about it. They don’t budge. It is not like you are talking to a human being they are down right rude making excuses for everything about how they changed maintenance they aren’t even sorry about anything just pay your rent that’s all they want. I recently removed my 4 bikes and several empty boxes from a storage unit I rented. My husband did not take notice when he moved our things into it it was dirty and the walls were scuffed, markings on the door. So long story short they want to charge me a clean up fee. I will take them to small claims court. Once again they don’t CARE. Don’t live near the garbage containers !!! The recycle center looks like a pig sty over flowing, broken glass on the walkway. Ugly very Ugly They need to have it removed more often. We have complained about the breeze ways being dirty. They power hose it once a yr. STILL DIRTY !!! Cob webs galore. Paint chipping off the roof in breezeway. Black Mold growing on the roof in breeze way. Last yrs winter season. They neglected to clean sidewalks, walking pathways, these need to be done right away so as not to harden and then they are impossible to clean properly. Side walks and driveways were left icy and un-​shoveled for days. Very slippery and un safe !!! Breeze ways were left with snow on the steps for days. Sorry for being long winded but just thought you would like to know before you move into this place.

I have been at the Ashborough for the last 8 years putting up with the lack of gated security (probably gated 3 months in all these years), annual ant infestations from being on the end unit next to the grass where the anthills have been for years, bad attitudes from management, sub-​par appliances, abuse to my son from the staff when he tries to use amenities, wear and tear from the builder-​grade carpeting which does nothing but clog up your vaccuum, and flooding of my entire apartment by maintenance who was called in for a leaky washer and yet ran it unattended.
I even stayed through the sell out which resulted in taking away allowances which were agreed upon based on annual renewals to the tune of $ 250 a month with an increase to boot with renewal of $ 150 (yes, a $ 400 increase in the period of one year!) They have a business center which hardly ever has toner for the printer (which only works on one computer) and they don’t supply paper! And, when I moved in they had Wi-​Fi which went to the apartments and new management changed the frequency so it now only goes as far as the pool and the clubhouse… Did I mention the holes in the walker gates as well… And, there is a fitness walk along the pond behind the property which has been locked off from residents since new management came in…
Now after they replaced carpeting (after the flood), caulked the tub, and replaced the dead dishwasher, they don’t want to renew my lease and are telling me that legally they don’t have to tell me why. It’s all good since I had no intention of staying there another year to pay $ 2000 a month for a one bed room apartment with a den! Good riddance to bad news!

I Moved away here months ago. I typically stay at an apt for several years, but after a year I was ready to leave.
Pros: walking distance to shops, walking trail, high ceilings, big tub, big walk in closet, fire place
Cons:
*Gates usually broken
*thin walls/​windows-​but that’s normal apt living.
*the apt I was shown had light bulbs in both bedrooms, but the one I had only master bedroom had light bulbs. I brought it up and They said none of the apts are like that (?) And the apt was smaller then what I was shown.
*faulty smoke alarm, went off every time i used /​preheated the stove-​oven-​toaster– fireplace. the maintenance guy basically said there’s nothing They could do about it. I put in another ticket and they ignored it. Is that illegal when it comes to a smoke alarm? I quit trying and dealt with it, I’m rarely home anyway.
*Forget about receiving your deposit back. I always received a full deposit with every apt i lived in.
They claimed I had broken items. Completely Not true! Their Lie actually hurt my feelings. Smh. :(
*Unwelcoming manager (young guy) and several leasing agents– A couple were very sweet (Blair)
*PARKING was ridiculous. I typically parked a block away from my apt.
TIPS:
* keep your agreement/​contract handy! (they were trying to raise my rent before I moved in. Happened to several ppl that I became acquainted with)
*get a garage if you can. They were out when I moved in
