Okay… First off the rating. This is in no way a 5 star restaurant. In fact, there isn’t even indoor seating but the burgers are fresh, never frozen, hand made and big. The hotdogs are available in all beef and are deep fried which seals in the flavor and gives them a nice exterior snap. The biscuits are fresh made from scratch each morning and are HUGE! All the food is home made. If this isn’t enough then go to their sister store in downtown Asheboro ‘Midtown Dixie’ for more of the same plus fresh salads, deserts, and on the Saturdays the best homemade biscuits I’ve ever tasted. Not sure what the difference is but there is a difference both in texture and in taste from Saturday to the rest of the week. Saturday has become my day to eat breakfast at Midtown Dixie.

One of the best combinations of Chili Dog, Cheeseburger, and Onion Rings in the area, maybe the entire state, is found here, maybe only surpassed by Old Sharkey’s in Burlington. A number of places have one, or maybe 2 of these 3 items at this level, but the trifecta is exceedingly rare, and thus our visit on Saturday. There was nothing that disappointed — that was as it should be, and as it was expected.

The wait is a little long for a drive through but the food is awesome, especially the funnel cake fries!

I stop thru here occasionally on my way to/from Myrtle Beach. I had the double cheeseburger combo with fries, onion rings and a sweet tea. Everything was really good, hot and fresh. Cost a couple bucks more than similar tray from Cook-out though.

We’re new to NC. Just up from Florida. This was our first time at Cook-out but it won’t be our last. Great food, great customer service and they went above and beyond finding out about food my allergic son could eat. Can’t wait ro go back.

This place is an amazing little drive through that manages to remain despite the influx of chain restaurants. Obviously they are doing something right! Every time I’ve eaten here it’s been great. The burgers are so good! I’m not a huge fan of the fries, they sometimes seem dry, but they are still much better than the fries at McD’s! The onion rings are amazing! Even though this place is old, it manages to keep a really high sanitation score, usually above 100! Keep in mind there is no indoor seating here, although there are a few decrepit picnic tables outside. Oh by the way, the milkshakes are wonderful! Don’t even bother to compare them to Cookout’s because there is no comparison. The Cookout shakes are basically just soft serve vanilla ice cream. The milkshakes here are the way a milkshake should be, creamy and delicious!

I came through the drive-thru yesterday. We were the only car in the line. Our order was not repeated back to us like most fast food restaurants do, but we figured it would be okay. Once at the window, I paid with my card. We were then handed two different sized drinks(even though I ordered two smalls). About ten minutes later, the young girl at the window FINALLY handed us our food and I asked for some ranch sauce.(We had ordered onion rings and many people use ranch with onion rings). She goes, «um okay,» then turns around, comes back to the window and goes«that will be 27 cents.» Most places give you sauce with your onion rings, but okay, I inconveniently dug through my purse and found some change because I did not want to charge my card for just 27 cents. So she goes to get the ranch and I notice that the onion rings are not even in the bag. When she came back to the window, I alerted her to this fact, and she stares at me like a deer in the headlights and goes«uhhh. um. I didn’t charge you for onion rings.» And she just stands there! So I said, «well I ordered onion rings, so can you get me some?» She turns away and then comes back and says, «that will be $ 2.13.» So at this point I have now had to pay THREESEPARATETIMES. Terrible customer service. Not to mention I now had to wait for onion rings after already being at the window for ten minutes. We were in the drive thru for 15 minutes and we were the ONLY car. How laughable. I also noticed on the original receipt that we were charged for a medium drink and a small drink even though I only ordered two smalls. Whatever. I was so fed up at this point. And then, to top it all off, the ranch that I had to pay EXTRA for had been watered down to the consistency of milk. It was so runny it would not even stay on the onion rings(which were very bland, at best, and not worth the wait or money). It was DISGUSTING. I will NEVER go back to this place, and I advise the rest of you do the same.

I typically don’t eat at fast food, but my wife and I made an exception as we were in a hurry to go the the NC zoo, and we felt a local chain was an acceptable alternative to a National fast food chain. I had the BBQ plate and my wife had a jr cheeseburger with bacon and an oreo chocolate shake– The good — the season fries and hush puppies were wonderful, the shake was good, these would be 4 star the in between– 1 star the bbq was terrible some of the worse I have had, the bacon cheeseburger was tolerable. these would be no star for the BBQ and 1 star for the burger the bad– negative 4 star we also made the mistake of walking up. We were in a hurry but didn’t want to eat in the car– we waited for the fed ex man to drop off a package at the walk up, about five minutes. then we placed our order– after five cars in the one drive up came, got there order and left, which was 16 minutes from the time of our receipt, I walked up, no one came to the window for another 3 minutes then handed me our milkshake and probably saw my look of disturbance and shut the window on me, and left and after another three minutes we got our food. in hindsight we had enough time to drive to a real restaurant and enjoy a real meal

Good quick road/travel/unhealthy lunch or dinner food, reasonable alternative to chain fast food. Burgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings, milkshakes(15– 20+ varieties to choose from). Food was fine– no better or worse that other fast food much less choice then fast good nearby. Nothing remarkable. Service was friendly. Otherwise it was a disaster… Since we were traveling with little kids, we wanted to stop and stretch a bit, so used the walk-up window. As a first timer, I was lost and felt really inefficient/awkward while ordering(There is no menu to look at the walk– up window, instead I was directed to look at one of the drive through menus when there wasn’t a drive through car in front of it). It was hot standing there as the drive through cars idled next to me, while I waited to be waited on to order and while waiting for the food to come up. I was also not offered a receipt for my purchase which was a problem when something I ordered didn’t come out and so we didn’t know if we paid for it and didn’t get it or just was missed in ordering. There are a three tables set up for people to eat outside on site– 2 had umbrellas, 1 did not. I thought it was great opportunity to get kids out of the car, but it was hot and seating/tables are those awful concrete ones so it was uncomfortable, and the tables are positioned close to busy main road and drive through lanes– fine for adults probably, but not for families with young kids. Also, there are 2 restrooms– 1 for men and women– both have external entrances which require a key that can be obtained from the staff. My husband went first with our 2 yr old son and told me that the men’s room toilet tank lid was broken and that there were no paper towels. I tried to take our 5 and 8 yr old daughters to the women’s room but I noticed that there was no toilet paper first and then found out that the light was burnt out/not working(and there no windows so it was pitch black when door was closed, making it one impossible to use). Neither restroom was clean. When I came back to return the key for the women’s room(immediately), I had to, again, wait at the walk up window to be noticed and when I mentioned(nicely!) that the light was not working and there was no toilet paper in the women’s room and the kind young man simply said, «yes mam»… Umm? We should have just used drive through. Get the food if you wish, but plan to stay in your car and just keep moving.

Great road food! Amazing milk shakes and the fried chicken sandwich is what Chic fil a should aspire to be Dixie Express made a better one! Kids really loved their shakes, they were so thick they had to actually eat their meals before they could drink them. Husband enjoyed the cheeseburger. The walk up window did not appear to be used very often but the double drive thru was hoppin. Next time onion rings!

There should definitely be more reviews on here than there are. This is my go to spot when I am near the Greensboro area. The food is AMAZING and the prices are wonderful. My favorites include their fried chicken sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, onion rings, potato chips, strawberry milkshake, fudge brownie milkshake, chicken strips, bacon cheeseburger, and their homemade RANCH!!! Did I name just about everything on their menu? LOL No because they have other creative things like fried macaroni bites. :) I love how crispy their batter is for their chicken strips and their onion rings. I really do hope that Dixie Express expands to other locations because they have a loyal customer out of me! :)

Hot Dog was pretty good. Bun wasn’t toasted, but still a good dog. Today they were on special for 99cent, which made them an awesome deal. But normally they are $ 1.39 which is still good. Seasoned fries were okay, and the service was fast.

This is a nice little drive-in that serves old-fashioned chili dogs. Order a hot dog«all the way» for chili, cole slaw, onions, and mustard — delicious, and just the way I remember eating them as a kid in Asheboro. Good barbecue plates too, although the barbecue is not advertised much. My dad and brother like the burgers. The fried mozzarella cheese sticks and onion rings are excellent. Dixie Express makes many flavors of milkshakes and malts and is willing to combine flavors to make your own unique combination. I think that’s my son’s favorite part of this place!
