Scratches the Chinese fast food itch. Warm flavorful food, little salty for me. Affordable and fast.

Pretty standard Americanized Chinese food. Hits the spot when you’re in the mood for that kind of thing. The people there are always really nice. No muss, no fuss.

The workers are at the front desk when you walk in. Like many Chinese restaurants that serve both take-out and offer dining in, the front desk is laid out like checking into a motel. The workers are not friendly here. However, I am rating China Wok with 4 stars, because the food is number 2 in Asheville in my book, after New 1 China. The hot and sour soup and egg drop soup both come out of a vat, but are always served hot and taste rich. The lo mein has a strong flavor that I cannot identify but the best thing is the Happy Family. Happy Family is a combination of different kinds of vegetables and meats in a thick sauce: imitation crab, shrimp, slices of beef, slices of pork, snow peas, celery, etc. The display board of items shows opaque faded 11-year old photos of the various foods, but at least each food has the name underneath it in case you decided to order it. I would go off of experience rather than pictures. I hate when restaurants show pictures on a menu and there is no telling which food the picture represents – unless of course you are a food connoisseur in that specific cultures food.

I’m giving China Wok an enthusiastic 3 stars, because sometimes you just really wanna eat 3-star Chinese food! Here’s your place! What is 3-star chinese food? It’s «Chinese» «food» with scare quotes around both words. It’s unpretentious and wildly inauthentic and terrible for your arteries. It’s the gooey stuff they pour over rice at your local mall’s food court. Doughy egg rolls. Cornstarchy sauces. It has funny, non-descriptive names for things like«Sizzling Jade Buddha Dragon» where you close your eyes, point at the menu, and assume it’ll taste exactly like everything else they serve because it is, in fact, the same item listed multiple ways, and only the title has changed. Fried proteins that are mostly breading and MSG. Hot and sour soup with little fried noodles floating in it. Everything, of course, comes swimming in a puddle of unidentified brown goo, ladled over«ham» fried rice that’s actually made with off-label spam. That kind of «Chinese» «food». The kind you crave at 2 in the morning. The kind you think about all day long after your honey dumps you. The kind with fortune cookies and cheap, splintery wooden chop sticks in paper wrappers and little sachets of brown salty water labeled«soy sauce». Simple, non-challenging, comforting«Chinese» «food». I love it! This place has it. This is where you come to get your«Chinese» «food» fix. Ample portions, excellent Hot&Sour, and nasty«Szechwan» dishes(maybe nasty in a way that will tickle your fancy; do you love food coloring?). A week’s worth of steamed white rice comes with every order. A little pricey and they don’t deliver, but for the category this place is probably the best AVL has to offer.

Okay, we love this place. Best Chinese take-out in Asheville. We always get the hot and sour soup, spring rolls, the pork lo mein and the general tso’s chicken(white meat only, sauce on the side, extra hot). Always consistent, always hit’s that right spot. 4 stars for Asheville. Don’t expect what you’d find in SF, DC, NYC, etc.

The Terriaki chicken is awesome as well as the crab rangoons. My daughter loves the egg drop soup. Its great for a quick take out meal. Prices are fair. Owner is nice. They have great reusable containers as well.

We have ordered take out from China Wok for several years. It is often very good. I like their bean curd dishes, and I have also had Tso’s chicken. I have had lemon chicken, and moo shoo dish. If you order the bean curd dishes, they come with 1 piece of broccoli, almost as a garnish. I have had the won ton soup, which I wish could also be made vegetarian. I have had the tofu and veg soup, which is very light and has a good flavor. The male who owns this place is extremely nice, and always remembers our names. The lady is not as friendly and doesn’t always take the orders right. I wish she would improve in that department. I have ordered veg-fried rice, only to get home with a ton of pork in the fried rice. My favorite is the fried cheese wontons, oh my god. I am happy this place is still open.

Predictably good Chinese take out. Far from special but far from bad. They can handle a large volume of orders at once at peak hours. China Wok is not as good as other Chinese take out places across the country, but it delivers compared to other places in the area.

Stay Away!!! Horrible, bland, rubbery, over cooked, over breaded, disaster! Poor food, poor service. Very americanized chinese food at it’s worst. Do yourself a favor and cut out the middle man, go down the street to Ingles, buy a Chinese microwave meal, save yourself $ 10 and, food poisoning. Or, even better, go anywhere else in town. Asheville is home to some of the best food at the best prices I’ve even seen or experienced but, this is not one of them.

This is the place I go when I am looking for cheap and tasty Americanized Chinese takeout food. They are exactly what they claim to be in a clean and friendly environment. If it’s what you are looking for I highly recommend them.

I love the friendly service at China Wok. The egg drop/wonton soup is my favorite, and the entrees are made with good ingredients. It’s in my part of town, and when I get a Chinese food craving, China Wok works well.

Good value. Nothing you’ll want to write home about, but decent cheap chinese food. Service was friendly. Great lunch menu. I’d give it 3.5 stars, so I had to round up.

very good no frills take out chinese with a few tables to eat in. stopped in here Friday night as they were closing. The were very nice and took our order and did not rush us to leave. Good egg drop soup served in chna bowls. Chicken/broccoli was very good for a local take out place. Big portions at very reasonable prices. Give it a try.

I want to like this place every time I stop in — I’ve been at least three times now. But even compared to your little local Chinese place that I know is in your town, trusty reader, China Wok ain’t that great. The menu is completely standard, so if you’re looking for something familiar don’t worry about not finding it. On the other hand those favorites are not done too well — the Won Ton soup is sort of craptacular, like the worst Won Ton’s floating in salty soy-sauce water. The fried rice is standard, and the entrees are about the same. Redeeming points: it is close to my house, close to UNC-A, open to 11 on weekends, the owners are nice, they eat the good looking food as a family if you come in late, and is cheap — I mean less than five dollars for a lunch special out the door. But the main thing is the food is pretty rotten.
