We had been meaning to try this place. Today, we stopped at the Cook Out on Patton Ave. The place was very clean. This was Friday noon, and you can tell it’s a popular stop for lunch. My husband and I both ordered the cook-out tray — I had the ¼-lb burger with fries and chili, and my husband had the burger with onion rings and slaw. Looking at the menu board, it’s unbelievable how much food you can actually order for the cost of the tray. Our burgers were really good — a bit gooey and messy but good! I didn’t get to try an onion ring, my hub ate them too fast! :-(I wasn’t a fan of the slaw — not that it was bad, it was just sweeter than I like(I prefer tangy). The fries were fine. Chili was pretty good. It was just a little condensed for anything other than for dipping fries or smearing on the burger — it was too concentrated to eat like a bowl of chili. Still very good, though! I would definitely come back to try more menu items.

I ate lunch here during our last big snow, it was one of the few places open. I want to go back. now! The chili cheese fries were what dreams are made of… creamy gooey cheese and ballpark style chili, these are good for a hangover if you have one. The burgers really do taste like you’re at a cookout, perfect grill flavor.

Amanda was very helpful and knowledgable about the menu. I had never been to cook out before and because of Amanda’s amazing service, my family and I will absolutely be back.

I was very disappointed, by the food and services. The lack of focus on my order taker was as she was dead inside. Also the Catholic radio station was so loud it was hard for her or anyone to hear. We will never be back.

I actually love the coke float at cook out. This place is always busy. They have tasty burgers, I prefer the cheddar style with the grilled onions. My husband is a huge shake fan and loves the variety they offer. This is a fast food place so don’t expect 5 star sit down restaurant. Even though they do have indoor and outdoor seating. The young folks who work here seem to make it a fun place while working and the service is very quick.

Cookout. It is what it is. If you are looking for inexpensive burgers, fries, corn dogs, chicken foods than this is the place. Double drive thru and merrimon location has dine in. The shakes are top notch, the rest is greasy spoon food. It’s not fancy & it’s not gourmet & if you go in expecting that you will be satisfied.

Preface: I am not a fast food guy ATALL. Tonite I visited cookout for the second time and the first thing that comes to mind is WOW! As an avid burger fan, like many of us Unilocalers, I try to avoid fast food joints. They’re burgers are usually tasteless skimpy patties, fried to a place well past overlooked and topped with weak condiments and underripe veggies. Cookout doesn’t fall into that category. I had the cookout tray, a burger and a selection of two sides from a wide assortment, including coleslaw, hush puppies, onion rings, fries, chicken nuggets and more. I had the«out west» style burger, a nicely portioned patty that was obviously not fried and topped with bacon, cheese, mayo, Bbq sauce and a healthy helping of pickles, tomatoes and onion. I was skeptical at first, perhaps because of my high expectations of what a quality burger is and where they can be attained, but I was pleasantly surprised by a juicy patty, appropriate amounts of condiments SPREAD on the bun as opposed to being splashed in the center of it, and a tasty helping of bacon that was warm and virtually grease free. On the side I had fries and chicken nuggets, a fried carb overload but sometimes a man must do what a man must do right? The chicken nuggets were good. They were definitely out of a frozen bag of a thousand but they were fried well done and crispy on the outside. My compliments to the pimply high school aged chef who prepared them. The fries were tasty, albeit slightly soggy, but well done enough that they weren’t pasty white(undercooked fries are a pet peeve of mine). They just needed a little more salt. The icing on the proverbial cake was the mint Oreo milkshake, made with soft serve ice cream and real Oreo cookies. Not exactly the gourmet shake you can get at The Hop but it was tasty. I was thoroughly satisfied and quite full after, all for a mere $ 7. Face it, this isn’t a place I’d want to be a well known regular at, but for the combination of convenience, price point and hours of service this is probably the best late late night place open.

I actually like the double cheddar style burger and love the coke float. Tonight, on a Tuesday night, at midnight, the line is longer that I have ever seen it. Both lanes wrapped around the building and almost to the street and the inside filled the diners! Gotta love late night food places!

Normally I really like their burgers but the last few times I have been, the food has been going downhill in terms of taste and appearance. This last visit may have just stopped me from going back for a while. The corn dog we got for our little guy looked like it had been dropped on the floor and stepped on. Honestly. The burgers were maybe 2.5 inch diameter and they tasted really bad like they had charcoal on them maybe. Dry and tasteless otherwise. Not just one, but all of them. The side of chili comes in an already tiny cup and then was only half full. The wait time for the food made me think we were at least going to get fresh but I have tasted 2nd day leftovers that were better. I hate they have gone this way. It used to be a great place to get a quick burger fix.

For a fast food place, they have excellent burgers. Much better than the larger, more well known, chains. The burgers actually have a «grilled» taste. Also, have a large menu and lots of choices for sides and toppings. Prices are great for the quantity and quality of the food. Nothing fancy, just good solid quality fast food. Glad I stopped in too try it.

We were in Asheville for my birthday and I was baffled by how early everything closed in downtown. We wanted to try something we knew we wouldn’t be able to get at home, so we decided upon this place since it was right down the road from our hotel. I was so intrigued by this place. The layout reminds me of a Checker’s: two drive thru sides with a walk-up window. The menu is a bit overwhelming to a first timer like myself. You mean I can get a cajun chicken sandwich WITH a quesadilla?! And with a bacon wrap?! And a coke float? For less than $ 5? This surely can’t be right. Okay, I didn’t really get that exact combination, but it’s all true! If you order the Tray, you can pick between several different sandwiches and two sides or double up on one side plus a drink(or a little extra for a float.) I did order the cajun chicken sandwich and it was the best«fast food» chicken I think I’ve ever had. They truly mean«Cook Out» taste. It was seasoned to perfection and was just juicy enough where it didn’t make a mess everywhere when I bit into it. Dry? Not at all. I did double up on the fries because my brain just could not grasp the idea that I could order something else for the same price. My fiancé did go all out. He got the BBQ chicken sandwich, bacon wrap, fries and a coke float. Needless to say, we ate everything. We did have to wait about 10 minutes since there was an «issue» with one of grills &/or employee and our chicken had to be cooked again since the first ones ended up burnt and black. The manager came to the window, apologized and gave us refills on our drinks as we waited. We knew this was something out of our control and we were on vacation, so we didn’t let it bother us. We both know that things don’t always go to plan.

Baffled by the reviews for this joint. Go and get a milkshake and then leave. The rest of their menu, while dirt cheap, is pretty bad. A burger with a side of corndog? Really? No. Just don’t do it. Get your shake(the peach cobbler shake is rockin) and keep moving.

Five Guys quality at Mcdonalds prices. Ok, that is a bit of an embellishment but not too far off. If you want a lot of good food at reasonable prices this is the place to go. Also the shakes are killer. Make sure you order a tray to maximize your value.

We were out late on a Tuesday night and everything was closed. We seen Cook Out was open and gave it a try. It was quick and quite good. The establishment was incredibly clean and service was fast. I would certainly return for another quick meal here. The milkshakes are The Best Ever!

Come to Cook Out only if you value quantity over quality. I’ve had two meals from here and both have been very disappointing. The burgers managed to be dry and greasy at the same time. My hot dog bun dissentigrated before I could eat it… the dog itself was cold. I will give them 2 stars for their shakes. Those are good.

Seriously? A corn dog and a quesadilla as side dishes? If that doesn’t earn you a 5, then nothing ever should. Without question the best value for money food you will find in Buncombe County. $ 5 gets you any of 10 dishes with 2 sides and a drink(and did I mention that those sides can be a corn dog and a freaking quesadilla?). On top of that, they have every flavor of shake you can imagine, and they’re always friendly!

Leaps and bounds better than most fast food joints. Love their burgers, sandwiches, etc. but not a HUGE fan of the fries. They are so-so. But, their milkshakes bring all the boys(and girls) to the yard. HOLY cow, they are good.

I recently took a cross country road trip and my route took me through Asheville. We met up with some friends of ours and the consuming of beers would ensue. After a few hours of this we were all tired and weary from our hard fought battle with the duel wielded 30 packs of Pabst. We needed some nourishment, and we needed it fast! We didn’t know what to order or what was available. They suggested Cook Out. Being a New England transplant to Austin, I had never heard of this«Cook Out» they spoke of. We hit the road and good times would be had! We showed up at around 3 am and we had two dining options, drive thru and a walk up window with patio seating available. We opted for the patio seating and walk up, which ended up being an excellent choice! Our food came out very fast and it was super fresh. The best part of the patio however was the random assortment of Asheville locals that were all around. Some of these people were hilarious! As far as food goes I opted for the Cheeseburger Tray. This came with the sandwich, 2 sides(I chose chicken nuggets and fries) and a premium milk shake(I chose the Cheerwine Float, if you have never had Cheerwine, GETIT, its a local NC delicacy) I also decided to add a hot dog with extra onions. Having ordered this mass amount of food I easily though my food would be over $ 10, but I was pleasantly surprised when the cashier said my total was a little over $ 6 dollars! That’s right all this for 6 beans! The food tasted great and for the price hey, you can’t beat it! I can’t wait to roll through NC on my way back to Austin so I can get me some COOKOUT!
