Homemade frozen custard! But you have to go to the middle of nowhere to get it. Even though this place has been open since 2005, they aren’t even on Unilocal yet. That’s how remote this is. After driving by it for years on the way to Connecticut, I finally made the stop. It’s a garden center that sells plants, but they make their own frozen custard and do concretes — you know, like at Ted Drewes in St. Louis. They have around 10 flavors of hard ice cream, and the concretes come in chocolate or vanilla base with your choice of mix-in. I got a vanilla concrete with heath bar and chocolate sprinkles. There was something about the vanilla flavor that was weirdly artificial, and the heath bars tasted like they had been in that jar for toooo long. I don’t know if I would get a concrete again, but my husband’s maple walnut ice cream was great. I’ll definitely go back for ice cream. They also make their own waffle cones & bowls but they were out that day, so I need to try that next time.
