You can always judge a sushi restaurant by the amount of Asian customers. This place had none. A group of 5 of us came at around noon. We were planning on seeing a play around 1.30 which we told the waiter after waiting forever for him to come take our order. We had to flag him down because he kept avoiding our table. Okay we take our order and an hour later we get our food. I got ramen; it was overcooked. The broth wasn’t tasty. It was sort of a let down. My friends sushi was OK. Except one of us never received his sushi. They just forgot about his order. So then we had to wait another 15 minutes for him to get his order. I’m not normally a stickler for service but the two tables next to us also were asking how much longer. That’s a serious problem.

I never give 1 star and yet here we are. If you don’t know what is on your menu then clearly you need to use a dictionary or translator. How can you not know what’s on your menu in your 3.5 star sushi joint? Well I ordered some«Shiro Maguro» only to be brought white tuna not Albacore tuna. And then when I mentioned to the waiter that albacore is not white tuna she said, «oh we’ll the kitchen is not Japanese.» What? I mean I live in the bay area where almost every kitchen is Mexican and yet they don’t blame the Mexicans in the back. I was then I was ignored for the rest of our time there no apology for being poorly informed. The food is cheap and the owners know it. Skip this place and go anywhere else.

Hana Sushi is my family’s favorite restaurant. The food is always delicious and the service is good. I always love to get the bento box. It has so many of different kinds of food stuck into one entrée. We always come here for celebrations(birthday, various holidays, etc.)

My first time in Ashland, I parked in front of Hana to walk around Lithia Park. After 2 hours, my partner and I reviewed the food guide we had for the area, and couldn’t decide between Thai and Japanese. We decided on Hana because of the one page ad we saw and the fact it said, «Best Seafood in Ashland.» WOW. If Hana is the best supplier of seafood in this area, I feel badly for the residents. We ordered 4 rolls, edamame and miso. The edamame and miso were the best things if I *had* to choose. The rice for the rolls, a disgrace! Sushi rice makes or breaks the rolls, and the rice was crap. It was cold, hard, old; I was upset. The salmon pieces in one of the rolls, I had to pull out of my mouth because you could not chew them! I looked the other unchewed pieces over, and they were dicolored; some sections dry, some moist — bad management of seafood. The unagi on one of the rolls, the pieces were small and had a lot of rice(gross). I didn’t even want to finish eating the rolls; they were so poor in quality. I cannot believe we paid over $ 50 for something I could have assembled at home, better. I go out for sushi for the quality, craftsmanship and experience. I felt robbed after leaving this establishment. I saved half of the edamame just to eat at the motel we were staying at because it was better than the rolls. I walked out however, and was immediately asked for my leftovers from either a transient or homeless person. I gave it away and just went to our motel, sadly. Do not recommend. Nope. But I DO recommend Lithia Park!

First the good: the sushi was very good. I had the spicy tuna and was pleased with the level of heat. Also had the philly roll and tried my dining partner’s California roll– both were great. I still prefer the veggie sushi at Taroko, but this was definitely tasty. The teri chicken was pretty nice as well(my kids had that). Now for the bad: I know it’s not easy waiting on a table with little kids, but our waiter was very clearly not a «kids person.» He was definitely annoyed by having to wait on kids, offered no smiles, barely acknowledged the kids, etc. He got the job done, but it would have been nice had he been a tad more pleasant about it, I guess? We purposely sat in the very back of the restaurant so as not to disturb anyone, knowing full well kids irk some diners. After this experience, I can safely say I will not bring my kids here again ONLY because of the service. They enjoyed the food for the most part. The potstickers were the fried kind; I prefer steamed– just a preference. They tasted fine if that’s your thing. The«salted» edamame lacked… SALT! D’oh! It didn’t stop me from inhaling half the bowl though. Just sayin’. Overall, good eats, nice ambiance, just didn’t dig the service. I’d go back.

This restaurant was lacking most of the attributes one would hope for in a sushi restaurant: very little was fresh, flavorful, or well presented. We could cope with the fake crab. But both the edamame and the nori in our(skimpy) hand rolls were tough and old tasting, the sushi rice was dry and fell apart in crunchy granules, and our rolls were unimaginative, devoid of fresh vegetables, and meager. Even the wasabi and ginger were weak! We liked the stainless chopsticks that some of us got, the vegetable tempurah was ok, as was the chicken teriyaki and miso soup. The, location was great, the service good, and the menu was affordable. Perhaps we are spoiled, being from the Bay Area where Sushi is a staple. But we think Hana Sushi can do much better.

Our server’s name was Kale, he was excellent! We sat outside and enjoyed the friendly service. The food however was less than satisfactory. We use to eat there all the time but maybe their cook changed? The bulgogi was horrible. Thick stringy beef in a sauce nothing like bugolgi and we’ve had bugolgi a lot. Oh well, maybe we’ll wait a while before going back.

This place had great service and great ambiance, including outdoor patio seating overlooking the creek. The sushi was very good(not great, but definitely edible) and it came quickly. I would recommend this place for sure :)

I ordered the Hana Bento with spicy pork. The bento came with gyoza, salad, california rolls, and a side of rice to go with the pork. The price was very reasonable and the dish was generously portioned. I definitely finished full and happy! We sat out on the patio by the creek because it was a beautiful and warm day. The weather was perfect for sitting outside and made for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. Service, however, was a bit slow because our waiter had to tend to guests inside the restaurant. So if you’re in a rush I’d suggest dining in the restaurant itself.

We ate at Hana Sushi yesterday and had a great experience. If you go on a Saturday there is a farmers market in the area so lots of people walking through. Sitting by the creek, in the sun, eating good sushi is hard to beat.

Treated my son to lunch after his first plane solo at age 16. On a quiet Thanksgiving Sunday, we both had the Hana Bento. Incredible amount of teriyaki chicken. Sushi & rice to boot! Great service. We will be back

Ashland’s a small mountain town in Oregon, not Japan nor even SF Japantown. So, with this in mind, I was very pleased with my bento box dinner — a small mixed baby greens salad, a seaweed salad, a couple of pieces of sushi, some nigiri, nicely seasoned edamame. The flavors were all very bright and fresh, the service was quick and friendly, and the prices very reasonable. Plus, I do find reggae and hip hop and sushi all quite compatible.

We had a good experience here. Our server was authentically friendly and attentive and our sushi came out super fast. Although it was after 7 and they were pretty slow at the time. We sat outside which was awesome b/c we could bring our dog and the weather was perfect. The sushi was pretty good which was a surprise with all the bad reviews. Not the best I ever had but very editable and definitely not the worst. I’d come here again.

The fish was sub-par quality. The Nigiri was made very poorly, it had ball shaped rice and poor cuts of fish. Disappointing :(

Found something that resembled liquid starch in the veggie tempura which pretty much put me off for the remainder of the meal. The food was over priced for the quality and quantity. The outdoor seating allows for entertaining people watching but then again nothing they should get credit for.

Bottom line: great location, passable sushi, poor service. Let’s start with the positive: the Creek-side patio is lovely on a summer evening. Get a parasol table next to the rail, and enjoy the sight and sound of the bubbling waters. The sushi is tasty, but far from the best I’ve had. Although we were told that the chef uses sushi rice, the rolls didn’t hold together particularly well, leading us to wonder if a longer grained rice was substituted. They use farm-raised salmon instead of wild salmon, and imitation crab instead of real crab(except for the spider rolls). Miso soup was about average. We place more demands on a serving staff than most customers because both our young children must be gluten-free. Although the host assured us that the restaurant could accommodate this requirement, our server displayed little enthusiasm for our questions about which menu items would work. In general our server seemed harried and unfamiliar with the ingredients in the dishes. Granted, we have more questions in this regard than most customers, but after the assurances of the host that they could handle the gluten-free requirement(which for sushi mainly entails using tamari sauce instead of soy sauce), the server seemed less than happy to help with this. Among her recommendations was a cold cucumber soup that turned out to be way too spicy for the kids(the menu too neglected to include this detail). We returned the soup, but she charged us for it anyway. When she brought out the sushi, she had not separated the gluten-free items from the rest, and didn’t bother to identify which roll was which. At the end of the meal, she asked if I wanted her to «present the bill» before running my credit card, but instead of leaving me with a clearly itemized bill, she simply showed me an adding machine journal with a list of prices(only the troublesome cucumber soup was clearly identified, the rest required cross-referencing with her order sheet while she stood impatiently over my shoulder). The table next to us had a problem with an undelivered dish, so ours wasn’t the only«trouble» table. In her defense, the patio seating is a long way from the kitchen. And the other service staff was attentive with respect to refilling water cups and clearing used plates. With all the great eating options in central Ashland, a nice Creek-side location can’t make up for lackluster food and lousy service. Unless you’re desperate for Japanese food and can’t go elsewhere, I’d give this place a pass.

My husband and I eat here regularly with our friends and the food is consistent, fresh and tasty! The only reason that I don’t give it five stars is the wine selection is not that great and my husband, who is a big hamachi fan, finds that it is hit and miss with the quality of the fish. Still tasty but not«knock your socks off every time tasty.» The green tea ice cream is wonderful though and we recommend this place to everyone.

All right Hana Sushi… I gave you a third chance! Sorry to sound harsh but you pretty much sucked the last two times I came in. My husband is truly addicted to the spicy Korean Chicken and I admit it is delicious(that’s the only reason we came in). My California roll, I know it was lame to order but I wasn’t that hungry, was meh. Soooo… I bumped you up to 3 stars for food and service. We were a lot happier this time! P. S. Get rid of the hip hop music!

I will admit, I was skeptical at first. The first two times at ate at Hana, I felt that it was basically a clone of Bonsai across town. The spicy tuna roll was anything but spicy, and while the sushi was satisfying, it wasn’t anything to write home about. …that is, until I tried the NYC roll. Finally, some delicious, spicy sushi in Ashland! My fiancé and I ordered both the Red Dragon roll and the NYC roll, and while both left us fanning our mouths with huge grins on our faces, the NYC roll definitely took the cake! Absolutely delicious and fun! From now on, when my fiancé and I are craving sushi, we will be heading to Hana with the intention of sharing a NYC roll and a Caterpillar roll to relieve the burn between bites. Yum yum yum! Thanks, Hana, for a fun, adventuresome meal!

Went back again last night, had the Michigan roll, which is a big maki with tuna, crab salad, avocado, flash-fried, and the Dragon roll, plus some maguro and ahi nigiri and gyoza. The Michigan roll is just evil – soft and creamy on the inside, just enough tempura batter on the outside. Luscious! The Dragon was good, but the unagi was cool. The gyoza was great, not typical as it was also fried. Definitely a keeper.
