Three stars because the sushi is pretty good. One or two stars for everything else. Staff are inattentive and service is slow. The«Singapore noodles» are the worst I’ve had — mushy wet noodles, too much egg, no ham, no tiny shrimp, no vibrancy. Average edamame. Large tv screen on in the back room for no good reason. Everything is overpriced.

*Happy Hour from 3−5pm & after 8pm everyday* Since I started the Whole30, I have avoided even attempting to eat out but a couple of ladies from work convinced me to join them. I didn’t want to be «that person» who orders something off the menu, only to substitute just about everything. I fear no more! I ordered the Chirashi and substituted sushi rice for mixed greens and it was no big deal *BIG Smiles* Excellent service(as usual).

Awesome sushi, happy hour 3−5PM, and an exceptional staff. I was told it was the best sushi around and it lives up to that reputation.

in ashland again to visit my daughter… this time i came alone to taroko and had a good experience albeit different… the difference wasn’t in the food, it was in the service… they’re training new staff, so service was slower but not bad… let’s keep perspective here… i love the atmosphere here and they’ve got innovative rolls and menu items that blast your palate with amazing flavors… ok, so i had a crunchy tiger hidden dragon roll… which had soft shelled crab, seared salmon and other stuff which just blew me away with savory goodness! it almost made me cry… soooo good… i had a special order unagi(eel) roll… which was tasty… and finished with a salmon skin hand roll, which was to die for… all washed down with a sapporo… ok, my only comment on the unagi roll is how tightly the rice is packed… it was too tight/dense…it was hecka busy and so i should lighten up but consistency is important… and that’s why i only rated four stars this time…

Friend and I thought foods were very tasty. It is kind of dark interior for lunch but tasted good!

This is my favorite sushi bar anywhere. Njoman is probably one of the best sushi chef ! Tried sushi in different places in Mexico, New Orleans even on Norwegian cruise ship to get disappointed every time.

Overpriced. We had the little dragon dumplings to start which were passable, but not what I’d expect from a 4* Asian restaurant. My wife had the Pad Thai, which was okay, but again over rated — I’ve had equal at lesser restaurants The Kung Pao chicken was about as good as stir fried chicken from New Seasons which is 1⁄3 the price. The service was bad — we had a new girl, bless her heart, who had zero menu prep and couldn’t even name the most popular dishes. Another table sat, waited for 20 min, and left w/o service. I won’t come here again

Tasty sushi and a good alcohol selection. Had a hard time choosing from all the creative rolls. Food was fresh, delicious, and a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.

I’ve had much much better than this Sushi place. Had 3 rolls and all came with the same red sauce, so that made it boring, plud rolls fell apart easily and we’re difficult to eat. The service was okay and like I said, I’ve had much better Sushi than at Taroko. And I will not go back.

Where to start… Aw yes, the cost. My wife and I ordered two stir fried noodle dishes, a seaweed salad, a tempura vegetable basket, and tea. The bill was $ 45. If the food was good, or even semi good, $ 45 would be nothing. However, the food was incredibly sub-par. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and it was literally a pile of noodles completely saturated in sweet and sour sauce. Saturated as in there is FREESTANDING sweet and sour sauce pooling up at the bottom of my plate. I mean, when you read the Pad Thai on the menu it sounds pretty good: «rice noodles, egg, bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, scallions, peanuts — add tofu, chicken, or beef for $ 2; seafood $ 3». There is nothing in that description that suggests this is going to be terrible Pad Thai. Yet somehow between writing the menu and executing the dish you end up with sweet and sour sauce saturated noodles with a hint of cabbage, no sprout, no carrots, I guess there might have been eggs, and a small crumbled pile of peanuts on the side. My wife ordered the Yaki Soba noodle dish and it tasted like the whole thing was cook in soy sauce. You know, kind of like what most people would end up cooking in their own kitchen when they decide they’re going to try to make some sort of Asian dish. I’ll give them credit on that seaweed salad though, #nailedit with that addition of sesame seed oil. Oh yeah, if you decide to go here make sure you thoroughly check your dishware, because both of our sets of chopsticks were crusted with food.

This is one if my favorite Ashland restaurants, and I’ve been coming here for years. They have a huge selection of rolls and they’re always savory and delicious… Maki Monday is a great time to go because the rolls are 20% off. Try their sake flight too… fun!

I came in on a Wednesday night for my friends birthday with 5 other people. It was relatively slow, so it seemed as though we would get out food pretty quickly. We waited 30 minutes to even get our drinks and over an hour to get our food. Being students we were already stereotyped as «bad tippers», and were given horrible service. The food was great, but it just took wayyyyyy too long.

«pan-pacific» meaning«Jack of all trades and Master of None» that is Toroko. Food was boring. Had some surprisingly authenticish food in the most generic way. But it’s Oregon so… Staff was odd. We kept getting served dirty glassware, only to have the waitress argue that the glasses were in fact clean. Must be a dishwasher issue, but if a costumer shows you a dirty glass, please don’t tell the customer«well it’s clean.» Also if your dishwasher isn’t working, that’s a health code violation and is very serious. it’s not terribly expensive. But sorry would not come back to this place. Went home hungry. Food wasn’t good enough to keep ordering more.

Great fresh fish… beautiful presentation and our waitress was really helpful getting us to our play on time. The amaebi was spectacular and like I said very fresh

Says it’s a sushi bar, but it’s a pan-asian bistro. Came in for an early lunch — eerily deserted, even though it was the off-season — and ordered the lunch special kung pao chicken. Good sauce, fine vegetables, but the chicken was distressingly dry.

Been here many times over the years as a 25-year member of the Shakespeare Festival. Most recent visit was September 2015, the basis for this review. Came in on a Thursday night before our Elizabethan Theatre show, around 600p. No crowd whatsoever, which was both odd and pleasing. We order the sushi boat, which I’d never done before. It was excellent, as was the edamame appetizer. Sometimes, you really can tell the quality of a sushi place by the edamame. Service was very good, and there was plenty of fresh air/light in the restaurant – which I appreciate and value at this point in my life. The wife was pleased, too, as this was the first time we’d been here together. Can’t wait to come back next spring!

Bill and I are always amazed with the service and the quality of food we get at Taroko’s. They will help you pick out and customize your order to be gluten free. We had chicken pattaya, which is thin slices of chicken dusted with corn starch and deep fried. Served with a sweet chili sauce and cilantro. Although I realized when I got home they may have been cooked in a fryer that also cooks non gluten free items.(ask the question to sure you can eat them). We also had Mongolian Beef specially prepared to be gluten free. Two sushi rolls, the pink lady and the black dragon. Pretty good eats. 8 – 11 is happy hour and you can get some great deals and still the same quality.

Our dinner here was pretty good this evening. I had a couple of rolls(R&R and spicy salmon) and my husband had the seaweed salad and a yaki-udon. My rolls were very tasty. Hubby’s udon was fine(Mongolian BBQ, anyone?). Seaweed salad was ok but just too much of a good thing. The main thing that struck a weird note was the service and ambience. There were a couple of minor issues getting all our food as we expected. Also, we felt like the place was so quiet we couldn’t speak above a hushed tone.

It may be the sushi here is the best of its offerings. We ordered noodle dishes. My wife thought her yakisoba with tofu was«so-so.» My pad Thai sweet-hot sauce was not to my liking. The noodles were not firm; except for some onions there were only traces of other veggies, but the chicken was good. Though the portions are large, the food wasn’t worth the price. The waiter was not attentive, maybe because he had customers scattered throughout the restaurant. Service was a bit slow on our previous visit here also, so if you are eating here just before attending a play, be forewarned.

It wasn’t the first place on our list for dinner tonight. With that being said, the food was freaking top notch. Even though the interior screams sushi bar, the restaurant itself is Asian fusion. The waitress offered us glasses of cucumber infused water which was very refreshing. We ordered pork pot stickers(Chinese) and chicken satay(Thai) for appetizers. The pot stickers were medium sized, very hot, and came 5 to an order. The pork filling was delicious. The dumpling was both crispy and soft, which to me is a sign of great pot sticker. The chicken satay came 3 to an order. The skewers were placed over an arugula salad with red onions and a pool of peanut sauce. The chicken itself was coated in said sauce, with crushed peanuts for an added texture. The sauce was good, but the chicken was just a tad on the dry side. However it did have a pretty decent char on it. For the final part of our meal I ordered three rolls. The Red Geisha for myself, a California roll, and an avocado with salmon roll. The red geisha roll was very spicy, but very delicious. The roll is a decent size and comes with 8 pieces. Next to the roll is a little drizzle of siracha sauce. The inside of the roll has spicy tuna, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeño. The outside consists of seared tuna, ponzu sauce and black tobiko. The jalapeño with the spicy tuna gives it that delicious spicy kick, obviously. But for me the star has to be the cilantro. It brings a unexpected flavor, and an amazing freshness to the roll. It may sound a little wacky, but the flavor speaks for itself. The avocado with salmon roll was also good, and in my case acted as a «cooling off» roll to combat the fiery first one. Its a very basic roll with both salmon and avocado on the inside, and sesame seeds sprinkled on the outside. The California roll acted as another cooling off roll. Another basic, yet light and refreshing roll. For those not familiar with the California roll, it has krab, cucumber, and avocado. The sushi chefs were cool, one of them even making conversation about our thoughts on the red geisha roll. We both agreed on every point. Our waitress was nice but very quiet. The interior may look rather small because of the narrow hall of tables, but they do have an upstairs dining area as well. I am also a very big fan of their use with the color red. The lights, the walls, even the napkins. No matter what you’re tastes of Asian cuisine entails, be it Thai, Chinese, Japanese, or even Vietnamese, they do have it here.
