The best soup and sandwich in town. I’ve been coming to Aspen for 10+ years and always make it a point to stop in. They have one of the best Italian sandwiches I’ve ever had. This week i went for lunch and got an Italian and some of their duck and wild rice soup. The soup was out if this world. Packed with duck and mushrooms. Their souls change regularly, but if you’re lucky enough to come across this one, snatch it up.

Been to this place several times over the past 10 years when visiting Aspen. Usually the quality and service have been good. Today was very disappointing. The service was poor and rude. I asked for a few 8 Oz filets. They tried to pawn off an old dried out one. When preparing my order another customer came in asking for the same. They offer him the whole filet and put me on the back burner.(until I said something) We also took home some fresh mozzarella. It was frozen and turned to mush when thawed. Avoid this place. I will never return.

Famous sandwich? Surely self proclaimed. After having one I really dont know why this meatloaf or any other sandwich here is or would be considered ‘famous’ for anything but perhaps overpriced mediocrity. Quite frankly, its rather below average — both in quality and portion. Except for the price. $ 11 or so for a sandwich on presliced bread reminiscent of supermarket standard loaf? The portion of meat(loaf) is quite skinny, the lettuce and tomato overpower the taste of the meat there is so little of it, and again — infamy has lead to mediocrity at a high price. Then again, Panera have better sandwiches and they are a national franchise, ffs. In a town with so many great places to eat, Aspen has so much better to offer. Don’t bother.

Butchers block is expensive, but not relative to other places in Aspen. HOwever, to me, ITISSOOOWORTHIT. I’ve had the soup here, many different sandwiches, and the pre-made salads. Seriously, everything I’ve had is amazing however my ultimate favorite is getting a turkey and Brie(purchased additionally from the cheese section) with turkey and mayo on french bread. Seriously, if I could just eat their brie for the rest of my life, I’d be in heaven. The kale salad with homemade blood orange dressing was practically the best dressing ive ever put in my mouth. I LOVETHISPLACE. They have a few bistro tables outside but aside from that you just order at the counter and carry it out. Another huge plus, is that you can park in city market parking which is a refreshing relief from Aspen’s parking nightmare. I come here every time I’m in Aspen. I love it!

Food’s good, and I’m a major food snob, but as an interracial couple my husband who is white was treated to some blatant micro aggression regarding who seemed to be an owner or manager telling him about bad neighborhoods or what he then said was an African American neighborhood. I am obviously mixed race. It was said when I was out of ear shot and made him feel very poorly. We also have a daughter who thankfully is not with us on this trip. I will be going back in to speak with him or the owner if it is not him, but please do not frequent this establishment if you care about that sort of thing. Only wish I’d known before we left as I wouldn’t have spent the kind of money I did there… My dh turns into the hulk so I’m proud of him for keeping his cool for once…

The tuna sandwich was good and so was the french dip. Not out of this world tho. I would go back but I don’t have too.

We first stopped in at The Butcher’s Block 20 years ago to stock a picnic basket. So glad that it hasn’t changed at all. Delicious, fresh foods, friendly service and convenient location. If you’re looking for specialty items(caviar, bellinis, etc) this is the place to find them. Try the sandwiches while you’re there. Yum!!!

Decent sandwich and affordable prices. The oven roasted turkey I got was pretty good. Although their selection of veggies was a little small. Probably due to the fact that no flights were coming in or out of aspen at the time.

The Sea FOOD Salad is delicious !! Also the famous«meatloaf Sandwich» is wonderful. Little meat, fish store with the deli by te side. For a quick meal, it is a Perfect spot

1st time in aspen — excited to have a sandwich at butchers block and sadly ended up being given a turkey sandwich with practically no turkey at all! easily the cheapest business in aspen. I only realized when I returned home but of I wasn’t in a rush I would have returned to get my money back. AVOID.

This place has been around for a while, and its a good place to go and get a sandwich without spending an hour. Can run in and get something, eat it out front or take it on your way. Some people say the sandwiches have some magic taste factor — I’d say they’re solid hearty sandwiches. The ones in the grocery store next door can be sick, plus going in a grocery store is depressing anyways… go here, eat sandwich. done. The meatloaf makes me feel like a fat American, so I always order that: P

Well loddy dah… this placed looked to be a great place to catch lunch… however seems they only serve the locals. Stood in line and waited my turn as the cashier/sandwich maker continued to call by name the folkes in line behind me… took they’re orders and completely ignored me as if I wasnt standing there. I expected a little snobbery as it is Aspen… but come on seriously. 20 min later and ya set my items down and left. Shame on you for treating a new customer so poorly!

I can’t say much about the deli items here but as far as the meat goes, I can vouch for the boneless sirloin! I regret not asking more about the meat but all I know is when I brought it home, cooked it, and ate it, it was some of the best meat I’ve ever had! It cooked up very nicely and didn’t need much more than salt and pepper to make it a fantastic dinner. The price was also not much to complain about as it was about on par with the City Market next door, which is amazing considering the difference in quality! If you’re looking to cook up a steak and save yourself some cash in Aspen, definitely check out this shop! Just make sure you know how to cook your steak and you’ll have yourself a beautiful meal with The Butcher’s Block’s meat! :)

Great deli in the heart of Aspen! We stopped in here before heading to the City Market to pick up a few things for our picnic on Aspen Mountain. I highly recommend the orzo salad… it was delicious!

There are not many good sandwich shops in Aspen. This one is above average for the area. They also have good fresh ground chuck.

Okay when I first tried this place over 3 years ago, I was in LOVE with their sandwiches, especially the meatloaf one and their soups. Well something had changed and I thought it may had been just that one time, but nope this time around it confirmed it and my hubby had agreed. The sandwiches got smaller, but he still thinks the taste is the same. As for me, Not so much at all! I tried their meatloaf sandwich several times since and what use to be my «need» to have sandwich I craved for, no longer has my interest. The sandwich has Shrunk tremendously and the taste is missing some seasonings they once used, or perhaps it’s because they give less meat, so the flavor is not as pronounced anymore. The prices use to be worth it, but because they literally give half the amount in a sad piece of bread it is now Over priced. We’ve had several other sandwiches, but I really only go there for the meatloaf. I’ve tried seeing if there were other ones that ease my cravings, but not so much. I don’t think I will be eating here anymore as where it’s been a constant disappointment in the past year.

I was waiting until after eating the steak we picked up yesterday to write this review. However, I can now officially say that the filets we picked up yesterday were fantastic! The Butcher’s Block has a wide variety of meats and cheeses. I can’t speak for the lunch food that they offer, but based on the quality of the meat we grabbed yesterday I’ll probably be back to try something.

If you are having a snack attack, this is where you need to be. This is a tiny shop filled with amazing smells, as well as seafood, meats and cheeses. The seafood and meat are all well and good, but I became kind of obsessed with their cheese. I saw some goat gouda that was beckoning to me, and I tried a sample. Delicious. We bought a half pound of it(around $ 14.00 for a half pound, that’s some expensive cheese!) and were on our merry way. We ate the cheese for the next few days on hikes/climbs/etc. It made an awesome snack and it was a great purchase. If you are looking for some fancy cheese/meat, look no further than the Butcher Block. You have found your match.
