Zocalito Latin Bistro

Super friendly waitstaff on a very busy night. This is one of the most unique Latin restaurants I have eaten at with the most creative treatments of some classic dishes (chile rellenos) I have had and some incredibly interesting dishes I have ever heard of (lamb tacos).The prices are very reasonable and especially so given that it is located in Aspen.

We always have a great time here! The food is awesome, the margaritas are strong and the service is friendly. They are not super fast, but we actually like that, because its very relaxed and we never feel rushed.

Great place for kids, especially in outdoor seating area where parents let their kids scream from the trees. Many families seem to eat here. Food is so-​so. Portions are quite small. The $ 25 «vegie» [sic] dinner is like a side dish, and the appetizer of gauc I ordered was teeny tiny. Maybe I was expecting more of a bottomless fiesta with large portions, so I would not come here with that expectation.

Maybe I caught them on an off night… But this place sucks.
Slow service — waited on our drinks, waited to order, continuous empty water glasses… And then waiting on our check.
Bad food — I had the pork with red mole. Over-​cooked meat (dry) drowning in over-​spiced sauce. How do you over-​cook pork?!
The potatoes were good but that’s about it. I won’t be back and would suggest that no one else waste their money.

Feels and looks like a dive bar in Tijuana with mediocre service and $ 30 entrees. No thanks.

Good for informal, easy Mexican. Don’t expect anything special, especially if you live in California and eat good Mexican often — but its good, solid food and the service is prompt yet also easy going.
Went for a quick meal after a day on the slopes. Had a few beers, some cocktails and with that, a couple of appetizers and mains. Their spicy Aztec soup is something else. The tortilla soup, forgettable. Their pork tacos are tasty, decent portion and you dont leave hungry or wanting.
In all, not fantastic but a decent meal for a decent price. Good service, cold beer and tasty.

Zocalito is a little cave of sort-​of Mexican yumminess right off the Hyman Street mall. Walk in and it looks tiny; all you can see is a dark bar and a few tables. Then, like a Russian nesting doll, it keeps unfolding into new rooms. The overall effect is very intimate, but there is plenty of space. It’d be a fabulous place to have a private party.
The food is excellent. Definitely get the chorizo and poblano cheese dip. I had the seafood stew, which was chock full of fresh fish and shellfish, not to mention deep flavor. I also tried the rellenos and the Manchego potatoes gratin. Al exactly what they should be.
The tequila list is fun, includes some rarely-​seen brews, and is not overpriced. Prices in general are on the high side for Earth, low side for Aspen. Service is friendly and hip, not overbearing but plenty attentive. We will be very happy to make Zocalito our go-​to for Aspen latin fare.

Incredible, a must! The staff are more than friendly and the food is difficult to describe. They develop every layer, every flavor. Big portion… yes, please!

Great Latin food in aspen! Walk in and down the steps to a really cute decorated room with great art. You are greeted by Matt who makes some amazing cocktails.
Start off with a mojito or try the sangria which is really great. But there are many other choices in libations.
We had a chicken tamale that was truly out of this world.
The menu has so many great choices from rellenos to tortilla soup to some awesome seafood dishes like the black cod or the grilled shrimp, with so much flavor. This is a great find in aspen.

Excellent Latin food. Everything we had was delish. I had the duck — somehow most duck dishes typically have an «Asian» flavor, but the duck here had a spicy Spanish flavor. Someone else in our party had the skirtsteak — also excellent. Portions are a little on the small side, but about right for us. Service was a little slow, but the food was fantastic

Our entrees were the only saving grace to give this review a 2… The service was atrocious, and we didn’t even get our appetizers until after our meal. The server obviously did not want to be there, and really shouldn’t be serving at any restaurant.

I will never ever forget the wings from here. For the rest of my life wings will be compared to this place. I don’t know if they are known for their wings. but if you go there you must order them. The only reason we stayed was because our server Matt was so passionate about the recipes and no we always talk about that place.

We were here for only drinks and to try the guacamole and grasshopper appetizer. Drinks were good but pricey. The guacamole and grasshopper was tasty. The grasshopper pieces themselves were reminiscent of lucas — a spicy, sour, childhood treat.
The restaurant is underground, tight, and colorful. There was plenty of beautiful art to look at and it was well lit. For a Saturday, they should have been more well staffed. We counted only two people waiting on tables, and though they are working hard, it was busy and the service was inevitably a little slow.

Worthy of two visits! A hidden prize awaits you at the bottom of the stairs; authentic yet innovative, carefully prepared Oaxacan cuisine (see photo of fried pork tacos) and terrific cocktails. Sit at a high table near the bar where the guests talk amongst themselves and share the dishes.
We consider ourselves NYC foodies and rate this establishment (and the owner/​chef) right up there with anything we’ve had in Gotham. Servers are very helpful with selections and by our second visit were like old friends. A real find
