This place is incredible! The Mami is the perfect size and I especially recommend the green sauce and mango juice. The service is fantastic as well.

Maybe their arepas are better then their meals… Hint why they are called«arepas café» I ordered the chicken meal aka Pabellon de Pollo and I found it to be under seasoned and over priced! Was the food horrible? No, but was it amazing? No, nothing to rave about. If the price was more like $ 6 – 7 I would give it 5 stars but for under seasoned medium portion for $ 13 ehh you can find much better elsewhere from your hole in the wall Spanish place or can dish out a few dollars more per plate and hit up don coqui or something. Won’t return not because of the quality but price to quality ratio ! So sad

The pork arepa I had was big and very filling. Portion sizes are pretty decent, so keep that in mind before you order. I had two of them and was stuffed. Lots of flavor in them. Funny enlugh, but I’ve never had or knew what a brown sugar lemonade was. Seems like an odd combo but was surprisingly good. Staff was quick, which is very important if you are pouring spicy sauce on. Refills were fast and I didn’t need to ask. One gripe was that our table Was a little dirty and wasn’t fully cleaned properly.

Order the Mami! This excellent arepa is filled to the brim with moist, savory pork.(It’s also pretty greasy, which likely contributes to the flavor.) I also tried the beef(mini empanadas, pretty good), shark(not worth the novelty/price in my previous visit here), and tres leches(also worth checking out), but really it’s the pork that’s the true standout and will keep me coming back here. Service was a bit on the slow side that late Friday evening we went. One waiter was staffed to the entire place, so he was stretched a bit thin at times. It took him a while to bring us our waters(which arrived a few minutes after the appetizer did), and later to refill them. He also forgot one of my orders. While this fortunately worked out in my favor since my order was more filling than expected, but he still shouldn’t be forgetting orders.

I love this place! Small but definitely worth going to. My favorite place for a casual date night :) the food is absolutely amazing. I usually get arepa de camarones but there’s a variety of options for meat lovers. And the appetizer sampler is sooooo mouth watering. The spicy sauce and green sauce go so perfectly with the arepas. Service is great, food is excellent, I recommend this place to everyone! I even prefer Arepas Café over the ever so popular Caracas Arepa Bar in the city. The bestttttt!

Wow, what a great place for lunch. Food was fresh inside the arepa. Had the scrambled eggs mixed in with cheddar cheese, avocado, plantains, etc. Very delicious! The coffee was hot and perfectly brewed. Service was top notch. My waiter was so cute! Will come back to explore the Venezuelan food. My first time and not my last.

This is my go to spot! Awesome Prices, great food, great staff. I normally get the Arepa Pabellón and replace the black beans with Avocado Slices. If you’re looking for authentic Venezuelan Food with great prices, look no further!

This hands down is one of my absolute favorite places to come and eat! Not only is it so convenient to get to because it’s right by the train, the food is AMAZING! The staff are such nice and sweet people to be around, especially Allie and Adriana! I love when I end up going there and I see them working, makes me even happier to be there. There’s so much good food to choose from here that I can’t choose what is my favorite. Just sitting here writing this review is making me hungry. Can’t wait to go back there! :)

I have been eating veggie sandwiches non stop and needed a meat dose & gluten break. Been here before for dinner and remembered being really happy after two arepas. Now it is 3pm so I just wanted one and got the carne mechada(slow cooked beef). Totally great as is, plus their sauces are excellent(habanero jelly and white garlicky slightly yogurty mellow sauce). Music on the loud side, but speakers are well tuned to the space so conversation seems to still be good. Service is efficient, friendly. Love this place!

How did I not know of this place? I mean, I drive by the restaurant every week and have eaten just next door. I went here with a party of 8 today after a strong recommendation from one of the couples. We were able to get seated quickly and ordered our foods pretty seamlessly. I had the arepas pabellon which comes with shredded beef, black beans and white cheese and it was delicious! I really liked the balance of everything. My wife had the reina which is the cold salad chicken arepa which she liked. She also had the passion fruit mimosas which came with fruits which she enjoyed. Others in our table ordered the patacon which looked amazing and large. The food was great but I think the real highlight were the two sauces. They had a cilantro/yogurt based creamy sauce which was good in itself but even better with their hot sauce which was subtly sweet with a definite kick. I will go back.

Never in my life had I had an Arepa or knew what one was until my co-workers and I stepped into this little gem. Small Venezulean establishment but after you taste the food, you will forget about the size of the restaurant. Ive visited twice already and would love to try every Arepa on the menu. The prices are so reasonable with the cheapest being about $ 7.50. and they are super flavorful. At first I thought I could eat about two but honestly one is filling. The sauces to accompany the arepas are phenomenal. Try the green sauce. I have no clue whats in it but I guarantee that its a hit. Great customer service and the passionfruit Sangria is a must have! My co workers and I will definitely be regulars here.

Before I heard about this place, I thought it would be a small place due to my experience with The Arepa Lady in Jackson Heights. I was wrong. Arepas Café had more seats than expected that I was happy about when I came here for lunch. I ordered the pabellon arepa which has slightly spicy shredded beef, black beans, cheese and fried plantains and really enjoyed the flavor of it overall. I also ordered the yuca sticks from the appetizers which seemed ok but I liked the arepa I ordered more. Love how they don’t just have arepas and I would love to come back to try other things!

Arepas take 2! My friends & I came here on a Sunday evening around 6pm. There was a good amount of people there but we were seated right away. It’s a small but comfy atmosphere. We ordered a pitcher of the Passion Fruit Sangria and it was delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the mini platter that included empanadas, yuca fries, sweet plantains with cheese & these cheese sticks(forgot the name of that one) but I enjoyed everything! For our entrées we each ordered a different arepa. My friends liked their arepas but I wasn’t a huge fan of mine which was like a chicken salad with cheese and avocado. It had good flavors but the filling was overwhelming for me. Next time I think I’ll stick to my original choice.

These are some fancy arepas, but they are definitely worth it. They are fairly big – two can probably make a meal – and come out filled to the brim with ingredients and flavor. The roast pork, which appears in several arepas, is really quite tender and tasty. There are so many different combinations that it shouldn’t be too hard to find one that fits anyone’s tastes. The corn biscuit is crispy and has a great complementary texture. The patacon was another beast all together. Almost double the size of an arepa, it was basically a huge delicious sandwich, but with crispy tostones rather than bread. This made for some messy eating(knife and fork couldn’t cut it either since the outer layer was hard), but it was worth it. The passion fruit juice was a delicious refreshing drink to go with all of this savory food.

If I want to take a luxurious lunch break, I make my way out to Arepas Café. From Gotham, it’s two stops on the N/Q. And it’s totally worth the trek. I’ve had a lot of different arepas, and they’re all messy and delicious. The seafood one features an array of different ocean-dwelling animals(shrimp, fish, clams, bay scallops) and a sauce that will get all over your hands. These sauces will all get all over your hands. It’s kind of the point when you pick something up and eat it. The pabellon, the carne mechada, the mi amor… all of these are delicious in an arepa. I’ve also twice had the cachapa with just cheese, and it’s a much less sweet cachapa than I’ve had in the past. So good. If you’re hungry for lunch, take advantage of the lunch special with two arepas and a drink(the brown sugar lemonade, or the passion fruit are good, but a little sweet. Chicha morada is NOT included, unfortunately, but you can still get it here). If you’re only a little hungry, take one arepa and a drink, and if you’re somewhere in the middle, order one arepa and split the cachapa with a friend. What a wonderful place.

I love going out on the weekends and trying new foods. I have heard so many good things about an arepa so I really wanted to try one. Everyone I asked on where to get the best arepa have lead me to here. And they did not disappoint. At first I was like«$ 7 for one? That’s a little pricey don’t you think? Am I even going to be full after this ?» Boy was I wrong. These arepas were huge and filling and I was beyond satisfied with it. Did I forget to mention that the staff and service overall was excellent ?? They were very helpful with the recommendations and even gave us a same sample of the brown sugar lemonade as we were curious if we should get that or not! Definitely going to be coming back here. Tip: Buy a bottle of that godly Green sauce for yourself ! It’s worth it !!

This place is a small but cozy restaurant. When we first stepped in, we were greeted and told we can sit anywhere. They have a to go menu and a to stay menu with lung specials. However, I just ordered something from the to stay menu(not lunch specials). The arepas here are pretty good, but I’ve had better. Parking here is a bit difficult to find but they have street parking. I had the carne mechada. The meat was really great. It had so much flavor and it was PACKED with meat. They did not skimp out. My friend the the reina. It is shredded chicken with avocado. I love avocado but there was too much avocado in it and it felt overwhelming. We also ordered yuca as an appetizer. The yuca was good but I couldn’t eat more than 1.

This is definitely the arepas spot to go to in Astoria. I’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints. It’s a tiny little spot with limited seating. For starters I get the mini platter that comes with 3 tequenos, 3 mini cachapas, 3 mini empanadas and 4 fried yuca. This is definitely a must when you come here. everything in that sampler is great and it’s good for sharing. The sautéed mushroom arepa is great if you’re looking for something light. It has great flavor and is very simple. The reina arepa has shredded chicken, mixed with avocado and a little mayo. I think it had more than a little mayo in it. Overall it was really good.

I’ve been a few times to this location & final I’ve tried the cachapas which is a sweet corn like arepa which I choose to have w/chicken & cheese there are other choices, but boy I was so stuffed I took the rest in a doggy bag. We also had sampler which was nice a nice starter w: tiny cachapas, cheese sticks, yuca fries which are perfectly crispy btw(mouth watering) & mini empanadas & it’s severed w/3 sauces a white its light like sour cream, a green sauce that is too die for as well as salsa rosada dip yuca fries in it ! Finally for the arepas rellenas they’re bomb haven’t had one yet I didn’t like. I have one complaint about the place the service is great & they are fast. However the servers aren’t the friendliest just enough politeness to get the job done. Maybe I catch them on bad days haha. This place has one my heart I literally bring all every one to try it mostly so I can eat it again.

I swear that I tried many venezuelan arepas in nyc and none of them come close to this place. I went with my skeptical husband, because he had a digusting arepa experience before and now he is an arepa believer lol He fell in love with the Pabellon Arepas(shredded beef with plantain and white cheese) the mix is just incredible! Also tried the rompe-colchon arepa(variety of seafood: oyster, shrimp, scallop, squids, white cheese) good for seafood lovers. Their green sauce is one of my favorites which I tried to replicate at home but failed :( In short, the place is cozy, nicely decorated and service is pretty good. It is not a big place, but if its a large group I would suggest to make reservations ahead. I would totally recommend this place to my friends and family!

A perfect eatery for movie night near UA Kaufman. It is approximately a 5 – 10 minute walk, or a 2-minute drive from the theater, but a noteworthy getaway from the bland food options directly across from the theater. [1] Passion Fruit Sangria I’m beginning with this because it is this drink that is the focal point of the experience. This take on the traditional sangria is a delightful experience, and you won’t be able to help but to order another pitcher. [2] Cachapa This dish was also well worth the trip itself. A mass of cheese wrapped in a sweet pancake layer. [3] Arepas –Reina I was only able to have one on top of the other dishes ordered. It was difficult to decide which arepas to have given the variety of choice. The Reina was average compared to past arepas, but again I would have to try more in order to fully evaluate it. A must try pre-theater dinner! It adds to the film experience after having multiple passion fruit sangrias…

Great food great atmosphere and reasonable price. We always have an arepa with different toppings(chicken, cheese, beef, etc) and I love their pabellon de pollo with rice and beans and plantains. They also have this green and red pepper sauce that just makes their dishes even more tasty. We come here often and have tried different items but when I’m hungry I have my go to’s. They are a casual dine in spot and seasonably priced. The 36th ave location owner should consider opening one up on the ditmars side.

Despite being my least favorite(and with the worst green sauce*) of the handful or so arepas spots I’ve tried in the boroughs, a mediocre arepa still beats good versions of most other foods, so it certainly wasn’t a bad dinner. Arepa Queso Amarillo o Blanco — Choice of Cheese: Tropical White $ 3.75+tax Arepa Pabellon $ 7.25+tax *They give you this and a pink/orange sauce which they make it seem more generous by adding 1 sauce container per arepa, but unfortunately each has barely any sauce inside.

My husband and I were on our way to an evening showing at the UA Kaufman, but we wanted real food and didn’t want to pay a shit-load for it, so we decided to try this place out. We asked, as we were being seated, if they could serve us fast, since we had a movie to catch. Yes, they told us, they could. We asked what was good and was recommended the arepas and the Pabellon Criollo. I ordered the Mami($ 7.25) and the house salad($ 6.75) and my husband ordered the Pabellon De Polio($ 12), the Pabellon Criollo with chicken instead of beef. They weren’t kidding about the speed. I think we were served in five minutes and the meats were tender and flavorful. The salad was mostly romaine, but it was entrée sized and topped with avocado, yum. Service was great, they asked if I wanted my salad dressing on the side(yes) and confirmed that we were in a rush(yes). We were in and out around thirty minutes– that was mostly due to my slow eating. This place is large. There’s seating by the entrance and in the other room. This is so much better than Crapplebees and Uno by the movie theater. My husband and I will definitely return.

The Arepa Pabellon is all I need. One is sometimes even enough. Such a great combination of perfectly fried dough with shredded beef, cheese, and sweet plantains. The green sauce is of course what really ties the whole thing together. I really like the brown sugar lemonade — it is *very* sour though so be careful. Oh and that reminds me the other sauce — the one that is not green — is quite sour and citrus-like and I also love it. The sauce at Caracas Arepa Bar is better(it is VERY hard to beat) but I think the portions make Arepas Café one heck of a solid option. If you live near by you definitely need to check it out asap.

This is one of my go-to restaurants to de-stress and eat some good grub. I had noticed this place over two years ago but wasn’t sure whether it was Colombian or Venezuelan. Colombian arepas are more of a snack or side dish than a main feature. Venezuelan arepas are thick, fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside arepas filled with imaginative ingredients sandwich-style. finally I dragged one of my friends, who lives nearby, and have been hooked ever since. I have experienced Cocotero, Caracas, and some of the lesser known arepa joints uptown, and this takes the cake. My favorites are the pabellón, with shredded beef, sweet plantains, savory white cheese, and black beans, which you can also get in a dish form sans arepa. I also like the llanera, the white cheese and sweet plantains, the pernil(Latin-style pulled pork), and stewed check. If not the arepas, the tajadas– sweet plantains with a slightly less dense sour cream do the trick. The empanadas are similar in style to Colombian one’s, yellow and masa versus the pastelillo style ones Puerto Ricans and Doninicans make. You are offered two sauces, a creamy garlic sauce and a thick hot sauce, which I love to load up on. I love to come here for the sangria as well. They have red and a bright yellow passion fruit variety. There’s happy hour on these Monday-Friday from 4 – 7. Not sure how they do it, but the red sangria is layered and appears two-toned. It’s a lot of fun to sip after a long day at work and comes in small and large. For dessert I highly recommend the quesillo, a thick flan the consistency of cheesecake versus the pudding-like ones that you usually get at restaurants. The few leches is cinnamon-y and also on point. Why not just go see for yourself?

I travel from the Bronx for the Veggie Arepa. It is just so yummy! For my non meat lovers the veggie arepa comes with black beans, sweet plaintains, and avocado! I have them add cheese and its oh so good. And its a corn flatbread so its perfect for my gluten free friends! This place really is the place to go for arepas. They are so delicious and made to order. I love that I’m not getting an arepa that’s been pre-made just sitting there. Everything on the inside comes to you nice and hot. The menu options are extensive. There really is an Arepa option for everybody. And you can even ask for changes. The people are friendly and truly want you to enjoy your food. I haven’t tried much else on the menu but I plan on hitting up their non meat options on my future visits. Oh and if you go right after work, you score with happy hour. My sangria got a size upgrade for the same price. I am never mad at things like that!

For my fellow Unilocalers unfamiliar with arepas, they’re basically corn flatbreads often served filled with copious amounts of cheese/meat/beans/plantains/all of the above. Think ‘a gordita on steroids’. Arepas Café has always been my go-to for these not-so-little pockets of heaven. Aesthetically, Arepas Café is fairly unassuming — tucked away among the pre-war buildings along 36th Ave with a simple brown sign and awning above the entrance, while the interior has quaint and comfortable diner feel. In my experience, waits are never more than 30 minutes on weekends, and considerably less than that during the week. As for the service, it’s right on point. The staff is gracious and friendly, and always more than willing to explain the menu. And whenever I douse my food with too much of their awesome fiery red sauce, someone’s always right there with another water or beer. To me, it’s those little things that make great service. And now on to the arepas… First off, all of the arepas range from $ 5-$ 7, and just one is a meal in itself. So know that you won’t break the bank coming here(maybe your belt though). Most of my fellow Unilocalers have already spoken at length about their favorites — the Pabellon Pernil, Bomba, Carne Mechada, and even the Cazon(baby shark) — and they’re right, all of those are delicious choices. For me, it’s most definitely the Mami. Underneath a layer of sliced avocado and shredded queso blanco is a mountain of tender, incredibly juicy pulled pork. My buddy from Chicago put it best during my last visit, «It tastes like the Bears winning the Super Bowl in my mouth.» He’s not wrong.

I came here recently on a weekend for lunch — there was a bit of a wait to get in but in my experience that means good food, and that’s exactly what we got! The food is delicious, portions are HUGE and the prices are cheap. My only compliant if I had to give one would be that they put an excessive amount of cheese on any dish ordered with it. I’m a cheese lover and had to scrap some of it off because it was just too much. Other than that I would definitely recommended this place for a cheap, delicious and filling meal.

Arepas Café is owned by the famous soul singer Arepa Franklin. Her hits include«Respect(My Arepa)» and«Natural Arepa Woman.» She later teamed up with George Michael on «I Knew You Were Waiting(For Your Arepa)» to hit back at the critics that said her food orders took too long to cook, and that she’d forget about them in mid-preparation. What to get: You *must* get the Pabellon Arepa. What else: Brown Sugar Lemonade, omg. Any other good stuff: All arepas are great. Drinks: Chicha(like Horchata), Toddy(like Chocolate Milk), Passion Fruit, Tamarind Juices all good. Now Arepa Franklin wants to sing us a song. It’s called«I Order An Arepa For You.» The moment I wake up Before I put on my makeup I order an arepa for you While combing my hair now And wondering what dress to wear now I order an arepa for you Arepa, arepa, you’ll stay in my tummy And I will love you Arepa, arepa, you taste kinda funny But, how I love you Arepa, arepa, unlike my Mummy To live without you Would only mean hunger for me I’ve been here 5 times. Lovely service, an adorable woman running it. Decent prices(special offers make it better), not too bad for NYC. I always order a Pabellon Arepa and the Papelon Con Limon brown sugar lemonade. If you’re feeling Grim, you should come here and order a Grim Arepa. Obviously. What is the Pabellon and why is it so good? Well, it has shredded beef, black beans, fried sweet plantains, sprikled with aged white cheese. It’s similar to the Surena at Caracas Arepa, or the Ropa Vieja Arepa at Cleveland’s Barrocco. It’s simply one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth(not including human body parts). Every bite is heaven. Every morsel is delicious. It just *works*. It’s one of those dishes(like a combo from Sammy’s Halal) that if I was going to be permanently trapped on a desert island with Ice T’s much better half and this Texan girl I know, then I’d ask for us to have a Pabellon Arepa stand to satiate us when we were feeling insatiable. You know what I mean. You know back in Whitechapel, London there was a serial killer who loved these pockets of fluffy corn heaven. His name was«Jack The Arepa.» Scary guy. Great taste in food though. The other Arepas are good too. I had the Guayanes Tropical, and while I don’t like the mixture of cheese and fruit, if you do, then you’ll probably like it. I do think some of the Arepas are a little overpriced, especially considering how much amazing stuff you get inside the Pabellon for the same price. But there’s about 15 of them for you to choose from and they’re all worth a try. There’s a reason Arepa is known as the Queen of Sole. However I’m not sure what it is, because these arepas don’t have any fish in them at all. Go figure. Or, perhaps, go fish. The drinks are excellent too. «Toddy» is like a Colombian Chocolate shake, more like liquid Coco(there’s that girl again, who does look rather Colombian especially from behind now that you mention it), and is excellent. «Chicha» is a lot like Horchata, but I prefer Horchata. Still very good though. The«Jugo De Tamarindo» is very good too, and much like Mexican Tamarind mix. Whereas the Jugo De Parchita(Passion Fruit Juice) which I usually love in other places, didn’t do it for me. I know which one Arepa liked best. There’s a reason she sang that song«Chicha of Fools.» However the star of the drink menu(and Colombian-Venezuelan drink menus always have a lot of stars) is the«Jugo De Papelon Con Limon». It’s absolutely delicious brown sugar lemonade that I find addictive. It goes perfectly with the orgasmic and similarly-mamed Pabellon Arepa. So get a Pabellon and a Papelon and you’ll be in absolute heaven. Arepa told me recently that she is tired of me always ordering the Pabellon. I suavely, coolly retorted, «Franklin, my dear, I don’t give a damn.» Arepas Café is one of Queens’ very best eateries. Come here. Order Pabellon Arepa, Papelon to drink. Be in heaven. Love every bite. Fall in love with one of the best dishes from one of the best cuisines in the world. And make sure you try Caracas Arepa(Surena Arepa) and the one in Cleveland I mentioned, to complete the trifecta of Ropa Vieja Arepa heaven. And for something much greasier and completely different, try the«Choclo» street arepa at Arepas Lady II in Jackson Heights. I will be reviewing that one in the next few days. I’m absolutely obsessed with Arepas. They may be one of my favourite foods in the world. And this one is one of the very best, anywhere. Now I’m gonna let Arepa Franklin close out this review with her song«Arepa(Just A Little Bit).» (oo) What you want (oo) Baby, I got (oo) What you need (oo) Do you know I got it? (oo) All I’m askin’ (oo) Is for a little bit of your Arepa when you come home(just a little bit) A-R-E-P-A-S please Find out how it tastes to me A-R-E-P-A-S please Feed it to me, feed it to me, feed it to me, feed it to me Just a little bit Just a little bit.

What a great find! I had to work out of Long Island City for one week and was not very pleased with the food options in the neighborhood… ENTERAREPASCAFE. Get this: (1) Yuca con Guasacaca (2) Arepa Pabellon (3) Passion Fruit Sangria CAUTION: This place also has a ‘Passion Fruit Juice’ which is NOT the sangria. Avoid my amateur mistake please! I had this for lunch and came back to order the same exact thing the next thing… THAT good. I’m not even an arepa guy but these are phenomenal. The assembly of all ingredients come together brilliantly in the Arepa Pabellon(shredded beef, black bean, grated cheese, fried plaintain). Also, careful with the sangrias, I’m not a lightweight and definitely felt the punch from one sangria. If I lived anywhere remotely close to this place, I’d come every chance I get!

Perfection. That’s the only way to describe my meal. From the décor, to the atmosphere, to the food and service… everything was just right. For arepas, I got the Arepa Pabellon, which had the perfect combination of shredded beef, cheese, and plantains. I was skeptical that the saltiness from the beef and sweetness of the plantains would go well together, but I stopped worrying after my first bite. The arepa itself also had a nice bite to it and held up without breaking in half. My boyfriend got the Reina, which had shredded chicken, avocado and mayo. It was pretty light and definitely not as flavorful as mine. I can’t wait to come back and try more! Oh and come hungry, half an appetizer and 1 arepa was just the right amount of food. Also, both the red and white sangria were bomb! One glass was enough to make me buzzed and they’re only $ 3 during happy hour(Monday-Friday 4 – 7)!!
