They have homemade syrups for their espresso drinks. I tried the caramel and it was fabulous.

Nice to find organic and vegetarian food on the coast, the food was delicious but a little light on the portions and overpriced a lot.

I enjoy a nice café so I gave Blue Scorcher a shot. Feeling adventurous, I ordered a «breakfast sandwich» without reading the description. It was the right choice. I got a bagel with egg, cheese, a creamy chipotle sauce, and fresh greens on top. It was a little messy to eat but delicious! I also ask the barista to surprise me with flavor in my latte(again, the right choice). It was spice and it was perfect for a rainy day on Oregon. To top it all off, there was live jazz. On a Tuesday. The bill was $ 15 for the 2 items but I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Locally roasted coffee, everything organic and home-made(including the coffee syrups), and produce that is locally sourced from the area. Many great seasonal options, like heirloom tomatoes in the summer and wild mushrooms in the fall. I dig the big manual-press coffee machine, too.

The items themselves taste great, and the service is also hip and open. the only reason i don’t give this 4 stars is that it is a little pricey for what it is — we needed several items but I think if you’re just getting coffee and a pastry this is very good. the sandwich and the sweet potato burrito was also surprisingly good.

We had a stop in this gorgeous town while on a cruise. Every flower in town was blooming. We walked up to the column and on our way down we walked right past this place. I’m not sure what got our attention, but we decided to have a closer look by stepping inside. I could tell right away that this was our kind of place. We ended up ordering a vegan burrito with yams and stuff, some soup, and a grilled cheese because the fellow behind the counter said that it was the«best in the world» after we had asked about it. Ha! BTW, he was correct! After our delicious lunch and our«Full Sail Amber beers» which hit the spot, we ordered some coffee and home made desserts. We knew that if we lived in this town we would be coming here A LOT! Healthy, unprocessed, delicious recipes. win win

What a lovely place for a meal! Blue Scorcher boasts a locally sourced and organic menu. This will definitely be an Astoria staple for us!

The OR coast is not ideal for a vegan, but Blue Scorcher definitely makes an effort. Not much stood out to me on the menu for breakfast– Toast with tempeh or some oatmeal. I was about to order the toast with tempeh when I looked up on the specials board and saw a vegan burrito. I went with the special. Sweet potato, black beans, pesto, stuffed into a tortilla and pressed on the grill until perfectly crispy. It was awesome. I wish it had tempeh in it to give more texture, but that’s fine. The burrito made me excited about coming back and trying the toast with tempeh and other yummy sounding tempeh dishes they had for lunch. Great atmosphere, really delicious almond milk latte, friendly staff and tasty food. I will definitely visit again.

I always enjoy coming to small mom and pop shops that care about quality and people. I feel this place was a great stop on our tour of Astoria. I ordered the grilled cheese. I am not one to order grilled cheese. I feel that it’s kind of plain and the same old. Not this one. This one had good flavor. I paired it with the house soup that was curry lentil. The soup was awesome and it was a great pair with the grilled cheese. I also had hot chocolate that was ok. I feel like I have had better. On our way out we got chocolate chip walnut cookies. We were steered this way because the regular chocolate chip cookies are gluten free and don’t really taste that good. I can’t really blame them gluten free doesn’t really taste good all around. The atmosphere was eclectic and one that I can sit in but was excited to get back on the road. I would come back if I come back to Astoria again.

Nice place to sit and relax for a drink, snack, or light meal. Love the large, open space for seating. The guy who was helping me at the register was the nicest, most customer oriented person I’ve ever encountered. Like he apologized for not having a sign for a croissant I asked about. Plenty of healthy options, but lacked typical breakfast items like bagels(was told they’re made on Sundays) or muffins when I visited… although they had a few good looking pastries out. I had a savory croissant(something with onions) that was very tasty. My companion had the breakfast taco(vegetarian) that came with a side salad/garnish and small cup of black beans. The taco took a lot longer than expected, to the point where we joked that they must be making the tortilla by hand. A little pricey at nearly $ 10 for a single taco.

I highly recommend this Bakery/Café! My wife and I were on a short vacation when we stopped into this establishment. We had a delicious meal that was accompanied with great coffee and desserts. The Blue Scorcher offers options for our vegan diet that were fantastically scrumptious. The servers are very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxing and inviting. 5 days after we visited, I realized I left my very nice rain parka at this location. I called and spoke with Joe(one of the owners). He reassured me that he had my jacket and offered to send it to me(since I live about 60 miles away). What a great guy! If you are in Astoria, the Blue Scorcher Bakery & Café is the place to go.

Our breakfasts were unique and tasty– my husband had the Huevos Rancheros which was served over rice instead of a corn tortilla. He said it was tasty but he missed the tortilla. I had Persian yogurt — a bowl of yogurt topped with tahini and fruit and rimmed with honey on the outside and served with their multigrain bread toast for a beautiful presentation. Along with two cups of coffee, our tab came to $ 29. Coffee refills are an additional charge. We were surprised at the expense. We still recommend it but warn that it is not a value breakfast.

This place was the busiest restaurant in the whole town! We had to wait a few minutes in a long line, but the pastries were great, good coffee, pleasant people and cute atmosphere. It’s a great place to drink coffee while waiting for Sunday Brunch at Bridgewater Bistro that starts at 10:30(we thought that was late too!) :)

Love this place. Can’t imagine living in Astoria without it. The food is special, responsibly-sourced, reliably clean. The breads are getting better and better. The burger buns, made from their brioche dough, are fantastic rolls to eat any time. Thanks, everyone at the Blue Scorcher, for all your hard work! This true collective is a treasure. Sue S

I always drop by when driving through or stopping in Astoria. For a healthy breakfast plate, berry scone, mini cupcake or a delicious cookie with a cup of locally roasted coffee. As a small town Vermont native I value this kind of community centered, and welcoming small business. You can taste the love and care that goes into everything that they make.

Blown away by Blue Scorcher! Not often do you get so much goodness in a bakery café without dropping a lot of cash, or staying in an upscale area. Here you have a place that pleases the pallet of locals and tourists alike, at reasonable prices. It can be a pain to find. It’s next to the brewery in a very old grey building that has been restored. It’s up a few blocks from the main road, and not visible driving by. Breakfast here is the best in Astoria, and one of the best on the coast as far as I’m concerned. It’s an organic, veggie friendly, gluten optional place that doesn’t skimp on portion size or quality. Everything is very freshly prepared, and has a sustainable vibe. Let’s face it, it is very very difficult to manage all that in one place, but these folks have it down pat. They offer a nice selection of baked goods, your breads, muffins, cookies, scones, etc, plenty of coffee and drink options, but the real treat here is breakfast of lunch. Scratch soups, sandwiches, and salads galore. My absolute favorite is the veggie tempeh reuben, which hands down is the single best sandwich I’ve ever eaten and that’s saying a lot!!! The Russian dressing drips everywhere, the sauerkraut falls out, the plate looks like a war zone. It’s a complete and utterly beautiful mess and I cannot recommend it more. Service is very sweet here, and they encourage you to stay awhile, bring the kids for some play time, and just relax. Such a great place. For some it may be a bit too crunchy granola, but if you have the chance, give this place a try. They can make even the steak and eggs crowd a believer!

The food was so amazing! I’ve never had a better Reuben in my life and I cannot wait to go back. I was so happy to find a vegetarian place on the coast and I was amazed at the quality of food they served. Everything look so good its only to bad that my stomach wouldn’t allow me to eat more. They are on the list of must stops on my next trip to Astoria.

When my husband and I visited, we had just finished eating at Fort George next door, which was an excellent experience BTW. We were full but wanted something to have for later since we knew we wouldn’t be back in the area this trip. Well, it’s the next day after purchase and we just ate what we bought and WOW. This is some of the best baked goods I’ve ever had and my husband is a professional baker. We bought a loaf of Finnish Pulla, a ginger loaf cake, and this chocolate strawberry cupcake/muffin. Oh my gosh, it was so good I can’t even begin to describe it. All of it is not overly sweet, it’s a perfect amount of sweet. The flavors are amazing and rich. I would’ve given it 5 stars BUT I was ignored for longer than what I consider normal and I’m a VERY patient person when it comes to customer service. I wasn’t greeted at all, not even a smile acknowledging my existence. I stood there, smiling and waiting to be assisted. I made it quite clear I was ready to order, both in stance, attempting to grab their attention by gesturing politely, and by declaring it aloud, but I had to wait for the two women up front to finish their non-work related conversation and then still had to grab someone’s attention. I am not a small person, nor am I shy or soft spoken. It was not particularly loud or crowded inside either. I felt very ignored and half the service of business is to make sure your customer feels important. The food was good enough though to keep this rating from being a 3 star, so keep that up!

They were so sweet to us here and prepared us weary travelers the most excellent cold caprese sandwiches known to the world, even though the kitchen was technically closed. They have a lovely toy area too where our toddler was able to entertain himself and get a much needed stretch. The interior is spacious, factory-chic, and is mid-way up a hill with a nice overlook of the surrounding streets. The caprese sandwiches were served on excellent homemade bread, with extremely fresh mozzarella, real tomatoes and a very flavorful olive oil. I don’t think anyone’s going to top these.

Quality, service, atmosphere – one of the best café-restaurants I’ve ever been to. My first visit, three years ago, left such an impression that when I happened to be in the area again I made sure to stop in. I was even more impressed this time. When I walked up as they were closing, they apologized, gave some recommendations, invited me to come in, sit down & use the internet. My breakfast was made just the way I liked with quality ingredients. Their breads and scones are excellent as is the spacious sunny interior.

Cute restaurant, very laid back. I got some really good chai tea and the Huevos Scorcheros was delicious. I also had a fruit scone which was perfect, not too sweet and not bland at all. I immediately got the scone, of course, since it was already made and out, but as far as my main course it took more than thirty minutes to get my food, the only reason why it gets four stars. Otherwise the place is cute, atmosphere is chill and it’s a great place to have the morning sun shining in.

Really good pastries. Drip coffee was so weak I had to toss it out. Maybe it was a fluke/bad batch but messing around with weak coffee is unacceptable as I am addicted to having a strong cup in the morning.

This is a good choice for brunch in Astoria and with their menu, there’s something for everyone! Meat, vegetarian, sweet, savory, you can get it all! They had so many things I wanted on the menu. It’s great for a group. I settled the vegan yam burrito and it was good but I wish it came with an item or two on the side. Their kombucha here is Dr. Brew and coffee is a little weaker than I’m used to but overall, a very cute spot!

The blue scorcher is an amazing bakery with wonderful food. The tempeh Ruben is so delicious that I wanted to order a second one immediately after scarfing down the first. Their baked goods taste as perfect as they look and they keep everything super fresh. On lucky days you can get a chocolate croissant still melty from the oven. Other favorited are the cardamom buns and creamcheese Danishes with fresh seasonal fruit. The people are wonderful and you can watch all of the bakers making everything from scratch in their open kitchen. It smells like yeast and butter and the large seating are has a children’s section, interesting magazines for sale and lots of natural light. A perfect place to start your morning in Astoria.

This review will cover two meals, a Saturday lunch and a Sunday brunch. The service is exemplary as the stafff was willing to explain their menu and provide suggestions for customers not familiar with their offerings. We had a Reuben with tempeh and a house made sauce that brought flavor and spice to the sandwich. The frittata was also well seasoned and very filling. Everything we purchased tasted fresh and made with great care. We look forward to a future return to try additional vegan and gluten free options.
