White bean and beef soup was an absolute stunner. Reminded me of a cassoulet. The entire dish was smokey and filling. Just the right combination to warm you up on a cold day. Add an enormous slice of cheese Burek and you got yourself a meal for two. Will come back to try more things.

Restaurants like Djerdan are what make living in Queens a blessing. They’re old school, but are not resting on their laurels. Every single thing they make is authentic and beyond delicious.

Ordered delivery from here after a long and tiring day of skiing, and I have to say I was so pleasantly surprised. After being cold all day, ramen was calling my name, but the manfriend convinced me we should give this place a shot. Delivery took less than expected(approx. 40 mins), and the food was warm and absolutely delicious. We ordered the cevapi(grilled beef kebab/sausages inside a warm pita-type bread called lepinja), which comes with a super tasty red pepper spread(ajvar) and raw onions. The portion was enormous and definitely enough to share for 2 people. We also got a cabbage burek(flaky, warm, delicious, and enormous — could definitely be a meal in of itself), a salad with feta(perfection), and 2 extra pieces of the lepinja bread with extra ajvar, which were warm and doughey even when they arrived. And for the cherry on the cake — the whole thing was under $ 30. We’ll definitely be ordering from here again!

Being from Balkans I know what is burek and what are cevapi. Let me first start with mentioned hospitality, not what average American would see as hospitable greeting, but coming where I came from, that is OK, I am not offended if waitress or owner do not kiss my butt, do not greet and smile the moment when they see me entering restaurant. having said that, serving is not ranking high on my evaluation list, unless someone is obviously and openly rude, which for sure is not the case here. People just work long hours, day after day and I understand that. Now, as far as food, I had cheese Burek and Yogurt first. — Both were OK. Why only OK, first because cheese used in Burek was bland American cheese with almost no taste(no Feta or some older seasoned cheese that actually tastes like cheese). Second because despite being crispy Burek filo was not very tasty(Remember, back home one of best bureks are also«empty», with no filling at all, so filo itself needs to be tasty to). Maybe one of the reason is, it is not as greasy as back home or because it is made with bland regular oil and no lard of any kind). — Then came Yogurt, again it was OK, but more like Kefir, not traditional Yogurt. Next came Cevapi, classic serving in Somun bread, with Ajvar and some chopped onion. — They have been better than in some other places, I would say Good. What they missed was some more spice in meet, somun needed to be dipped a little in beef broth before serving and then it would have been real cevap, Like this it is OK to Good. Would I return, maybe.

The BEST Burek in NY state! I got the meat Burek with yogurt drink. The Burek was extremely fresh. Still hot from the oven. Crunchy outer shell and a generous filling. I have had Burek all round Belgrade on my visit last year. This is right up there with the best of them!!!

The best Bosnian food ever. Terrible service, but who cares? I’ll buss my own table for the borek. What I loved was that the chevapi was not too salty like most places. We went inside to be totally ignored. Neither of us are European so we figured(after a long wait) that we had to get up, place our orders and get our own drinks. The woman making the food and manning the register looked annoyed by my bf asking questions about the food. I ordered what I knew and we sat down. The burek was incredible. We mixed the meat and spinach together and it was heavenly. The chevapi and pleskavitsa were yummy. Chevapi being our favorite. Then we got up to pay, because we figured that’s how it works. I’m not saying I was singled out, she was equally annoyed by everyone. So I chocked it up to(that’s how it is here), ate some deliciously made food and left. We will be back to annoy her soon!

I hear their burek is fantastic, but I wouldn’t know, the staff was unbelievably rude. Despite my friend and I both standing in the front of the counter, they kept looking past us to help the people coming in behind us. Once they finally acknowledged us, they told us they didn’t have any burek left even though we saw half a pie in the counter. Disgraceful.

I can’t stop thinking about the crisp, flaky, delectable goodness of Djerdan’s bureks. I went in with my sister and BroLo a few days ago while visiting them in Astoria and luckily they took me in to this fabulous, unassuming little gem. Portions are huge and rich, therefore extremely shareable. We dug in to the meat patty on pita and a slice of each of the spinach and beef burek pies(The spinach pie is essentially the Balkan version of Spanakopita). The garden out back is absolutely lovely although it was a bit too hot to sit out there and enjoy. Overall, everything was exceptional. Juicy, perfectly grilled meats, amazing dough, and a huge value for the price. Yay, Astoria!

No frills, no ambiance, and if you’re looking for servers to charm and coddle you, you probably don’t appreciate Eastern Europeans. Djerdan, nonetheless easily earns five stars just for the burek. OMG. It’s amazing. It is basically the Balkan version of Spanikopeta. Many layers of buttery delicate phyllo dough wrapped around your choice of ground meat, mild feta, or spinach & feta(my fave). It’s served in a large circle like a pizza pie($ 20)and by the slice($ 5.50). They have other delicious offerings, as well. It’s more or less like any small café, and I’ve not yet eaten a meal there, just taken burek pies out. I have shared this treat with several people who’d never tried it and the reaction is consistent: every single person loves the burek. You will, too.

I’ve sampled Djerdan’s Boreks as a friend had introduced me to them a few years ago. Had a chance to stop by Astoria to run some errands, so I was looking for something different to eat for lunch and Djerdan popped up in my mind. I was scanning the menu and noted the Pljeskavica and Cevapi and a quick search resulted in two very intriguing things to try; especially being a big carnivore. — Of course I started off with the classic Spinach Borek and it was legit. Flaky phyllo like layers of dough and a nice tangy cheese and spinach filling; this was certainly a nice way to start a meal. If any it made me want to order another Borek :) — Big sister ordered the Punjena Pljeskavica entrée. The meat was so juicy and chock fill of beef flavor; all this while being very delightfully light overall, evident by the lack of a greasy mess seen often with a equally sized sandwich/burger. In addition, the pita like bread used to contain this beast was not drenched in oil/grease; something that does happen with some hamburgers. Not exactly sure of the meats used for the patty but reading up on the subject I definitely could taste that beef(and high quality beef at that) was the primary protein. The Punjena Pljeskavica differs from the normal variant by adding a layer of cheese(tasted like feta) right inside the patty just like the infamous«Juicy Lucy». Either way it was a simple preparation and that’s really a good sign for Drejdan as the simpler preparation means a very small margin for error and Djerdan nailed it. — I ordered the Cevapi entrée which was excellent too with ten gorgeously grilled links of meat cradled inside the same light and toasty flat bread. These were delicious and had a very different taste and texture to the Pljeskavica in that the Cevapi was a bit more fatty and seasoned with more herbs. These scrumptious sausages are dangerous as they’re nearly bite sized, and I could see myself easily downing 10+ easily. Mind you I’m not a big guy either, so this statement really is telling. Served alongside both entrees were fresh diced white onions and a side sauce called Ajvar(roasted red pepper sauce) which added a nice spicy element to the rich meat. Very delicious lunch and a worthy additional to any foodie’s list of foods/places to try! Reserving that 5th star as I want to try the desserts!

I had the opportunity to come here with a couple of Bosnian friends and a group of work colleagues so I had plenty of guidance to make the first visit and first taste of traditional Bosnian fare enjoyable and memorable. We underestimated the size of the burek pies(it was the first time for my Bosnian friends as well) and ordered a bit too much. The meat pie and spinach pies alone could have been the meal, and looking back retrospectively, maybe it should have ended there instead of treking off on the road to gluttony. The meat burek pies are flakey, meaty and form the perfect snack(I subsequently went back twice just to pick up a burek). Since it was my first time how could I not get a cevapi order. The only hindsight criticism I could make was the fact that the cevapi order comes in one size, which is a lot of cevapi(as opposed to other joints which have a half sized portion). But the taste of cevapi with the bread and the special garlic/onion sauce and garnished with some feta cheese was something everyone has to try. I live in Astoria and have lived here for almoat ten years and am ashamed that it took me so long to try this. As my Bosnian friend read on the front awning sign in her native language, «you eat good here.»

Advertised as «the best burek in town» — burek standards are pretty low in NYC then. It wasn’t horrible, but not exactly the tasty burek I’m used to either. It was dry and very crispy, as opposed to juicy and soft. The krem pita(cream slice) dessert was underwhelming as well, unfortunately. The people were nice though and I would still come back to try some other dishes.

Been coming here for years and it has always been consistent. I always get the sarma(stuffed cabbage) and their meat pies are yummy. It is slightly on the oily side but none the less still delicious

A quite affordable and tasty place. Their bureks are large, crispy, and with a huge amount of tasty fillings. The desserts are also quite awesome, and all of them are less than $ 3! Haven’t tried their main entrees but would definitely come back next time if I visit Astoria.

If you’re an Astoria native, you’ll probably remember this as «that place you pass going to Il Bambino.» We’ve passed it a million and one times promising that we’ll go there sometime because it sounds interesting. Thankfully we’re on a mission to try all the cuisines of the world and it gave us just the kick to cross off Balkan/Bosnian food. From the outside this place looks pretty unassuming and doesn’t seem to promise great food but it packs a decent punch. We started with what everyone else recommended — Burek. Perfectly flaky pastry covering the generously portioned yummy filling of your choice. We got the meat one to share. It was enormous and easily enough for two people to share. We followed up with the rice stuffed cabbage leaves and the veal stew. It was all enormous unglamorous but hearty and tasty. You kinda feel like they’re warming you up to venture out in a snowstorm which is pretty good for a NY winter. There was a huge party of people who kept hungrily staring at all the desserts in their big glass display case so we figured we should give some of them a shot since at $ 3.00 each, it’s not a big mistake either way. We’re glad we did. I won’t butcher the spelling or pronunciation of the names but suffice it to say what we got was creamy, chocolatey and awesome. Hole in the wall unusual cuisine is what makes Queens such an amazing diverse borough and I’d totally go back.

This has been another successful ethnic food expedition. I started with the cheese burek which was really nice. The cheese was really good. Next was the Ljute Cufte(spicy beef kebab) for me and the Cevapcici(another beef dish with pita) for my son. Both meats were incredibly juicy and flavorful. I definitely ate more than I should have. Nevertheless, we had to try the deserts. We got some sort of cake recommended by the waitress and a baklava. The cake was definitely tasty but the baklava was fantastic. Baklava can be so different in restaurants. This was much unlike the baklava we had at Lebanese, Greek, Central Asian, etc. restaurants. It was really, really syrupy but not overwhelmingly sweet. All of these 4 dishes came to around $ 35. This was a really great experience at a really great value.

As a Balkan girl, I say hats off to this place! They got it right! My family visited me from Vermont and they wanted a taste of Bosnia that they cannot get in other parts of the US. So I looked up local Balkan food and we decided to check this little jem out for lunch. The server took us to the back of the restaurant to be seated. It was a quiet spot with flowers, not the most decorative café but once the food came out, it did not matter. Everything was fresh, from the Burek to the Sernica. They gave big pieces, so you definitively get bang for you buck. We got a fresh liquid yogurt that went along with the meal. You dip the Bureks in the yogurt, very tasty :) Afterwards we ordered Turkish coffee to wake us up. It was strong and rich, just like they make it in Bosnia. We had a couple of pieces of cake to go along with our coffee. The cake was quiet tasty but the Burek and Sernica were our favorite part! xoxo. Since my parents are both cooks, it is hard to please them, especially with Bosnian food. They were shocked at how much it tasted like home. Every time they visit NYC, they always ask to come here. Fresh, Authentic, Warm, A little Balkan Jem. Hvala! Xoxo.

No. Just no. I’ve been here 2 times now, and I couldn’t even begin to tell you why. I get burek, I’ve had it at a few different locations. I like Burek as much as the next person, but these were not fresh. Both times I’ve had 1 meat and 1 spinach burek. The spinach one’s always tasted fresher and flakier. Meanwhile, the meat burek tasted… old…kinda stale. Like it had been made the day before and reheated in the microwave. No thank you.
