Yeah! Fair trade! Fair trade is the idea of providing workers with a fair wage for the work that they do. HandCrafting Justice partners with women all over the world from Asia, Africa, and Latin America to market the beautiful and high quality goods that the women handcraft. They have sales throughout the tri-state area — go onto their website for upcoming events!

I love the concept of «Fair Trade» in a global sense. Meaning that if we are moving towards a global economic system, I do not want people from disadvantaged countries being exploited for my luxuries. I do my best to shop ethically, and I admit that sometimes I shop at chain stores for convenience. I am so thankful that I found out that HandCrafting Justice is a fair trade international not-for-profit organization based nearby in Astoria for my «be the change you want to see in the world» shopping needs. HandCrafting Justice works mainly with women in Africa, Asia, and Latin America ensuring that their products are marketable in consumerist societies, and that the artisans are paid fairly for their work. They have beautiful handcrafted scarves, jewelry, purses, bags, linens, pottery, paper products, etc… Here’s a link to their website:
