K & T Meats

Been coming here for two years now. Grab all my essentials from here and they make it on the spot if I need something different done. When I went in yesterday I wanted to try something new so Robert hooked me up with some fresh Italian cutlets and even brainstormed with me about different ways to prepare them. So good. Even the 8lb fillet mignon I got for New Years was amazing.

Great, quality meats at a reasonable price. You order with the butcher and then they give you a little slip to pay at the cashier before you pick up your purchase.
Lots of other goodies in the store, but I came strictly for my ribeye. Will certainly be back to get some more meat. Way better than getting it at the supermarkets!

I really like to go to K&T Meats when I am in the area. They have pretty good meat in my experience. They also have reasonably priced olives. I like to get the ones with the pepper. They are friendly and helpful. They do the job.
That is all I have to say about that.

Things have changed. My mom shopped at K&T and I’d drive out of my way to shop there as well. Over the past year the meat does not appear as fresh. This has never been the case in all my years as a customer. I drove to Astoria this week to buy chicken and pork kabobs. I spent over $ 80 and when I got home and went to rewrap the chicken kabobs it smelled… the meat did not have a great color. but I attributed it to lighting… Needless to say it went straight into the trash. I’ve been passing up certain cuts of meat because they don’t look fresh… and now I know that it isn’t as fresh as it has been in the past. I’m sorry to say. I will no longer be making the trip to my beloved butcher shop. :-(

knowledgeable neighborhood butcher. Seems like a mom and pop shop with great service and small neighborhood caring attitude. Fresh meat.

I actually live around the corner from this butcher, they have excellent cuts and for amazing prices!
Order your cut, then pay at the cashier booth towards the back, then bring back your stamped receipt to redeem your cut.
The ribeye cuts are amazing, bone-​in chicken breast, you can always ask them to grind, slice specifically how you want your cuts prepped.

I was a bit nervous when I first came by this place last week. I know where all the supermarkets are in this neighborhood, but alas they’re all a pretty far walk and I was feeling a little under the weather. But I was on a mission. That mission required chicken breast meat cutlets. While looking to my left and right and trying to count in my head which direction’s supermarket was a shorter walk, my eyes glanced over «K&T MEATS» across the street. I shrugged and figured, «kay, they sell meat — huzzah!».
Upon entering it smelled like meat. No, not like nasty, rancid animal corpses — but like the smell of the meat section at a supermarket. To be honest I had never purchased any cuts at an actual butcher shop so I didn’t really know what to expect. I took a look at the meats provided, took note of the prices and absorbed all the signage by the butchers. I knew I wanted chicken and so I ordered about 2.5 lbs of chicken breast. It was supposed to be $ 1.99 per lb, but my meat totaled to exactly $ 10.95.
My math skills told me this was wrong but I didn’t inquire because at this point this place just because convenient as I was willing to pay more than I needed to (this place is a short walk from my boyfriend’s house — I’ll be back but next time I WILL inquire as to how they arrive to their pricing). It did get on my nerves that I wasn’t really shown how my meat was being weighed. Supermarkets are generally pretty good about telling me the price and letting me make any adjustments if I want to…
The (very good-​natured) butcher taking care of my order asked me how I wanted my meat prepared and I asked for it to be pounded and «butterfly cut» since I was going to do it myself. I wasn’t sure if «butterfly cut» was a widely known term since I had gotten it off an old recipe I found online for cheese/​spinach stuffed chicken, but he seemed to know what he was doing. He thought it meant thinly cut, I thought it meant sliced through the middle — halfway — to allow the chicken breast to be stuffed with something, but whatevs, this was probably my fault for assuming Pinterest recipes know «chicken butchering» terms, lol.
When I got to my boy’s place and began getting to work on my newly acquired meat (lol) I found that they were all evenly sliced (thickness wise), all nicely sized, no nasty fatty parts and the coloring was good and healthy — no weird reddish or brown splotches signaling bacteria problems or old meat. I made Italian style, chicken stuffed with muenster cheese (I wanted mozzarella, but remember my supermarket dilemma?
Yeah, K&T Meats DOES have a corner section with gourmet-​like [and imported!] gnocchi, pasta and cheeses — but mostly Greek & Italian offerings but NO mozzarella :-/​) and garlic roasted potatoes. I used some leftover chicken the next day for grilled chicken sautéed in a lemon, butter, white wine sauce — it was delicious, cooked thoroughly quickly and tasted great (no matter how good of a cook you think you are, if the meat isn’t good then you’re SOL).
I love supporting small local businesses and I will definitely be back here for more chicken and to try other meats they had (see my pics for all their meat products!) — may even pick up their gnocchi as well. My experience here was certainly a 5 star one, but I knocked off a star because I’m still confused as to why my chicken was $ 11 for an amount that wouldn’t cost me $ 6 at a regular supermarket — but either way, I still wholeheartedly recommend this gem of a place :).

That’s what I’d like to say to any clueless vegetarian wandering into the temple that is K&T Meats. I like cooked meat, raw meat, fried meat, grilled meat. I’ll eat it all no matter the occasion. Funerals? Obviously. But there’s nothing quite like dangling a bloody ribeye from your suit jacket during your daughter’s wedding. Seeing what rabid carnivores will leap out of the woodwork — ready to feast.
I did it. So shoot me. I was hungry. She cried, I dined. t was a big affair. 2, 3 maybe four hundred people in all — we did it real nice out on the Island. Afterwards, my tuxedo tar tar was all that anyone remembered. Truth is, she divorced the schlub a few months later. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming.

This place is a bit chaotic, but great selection of meat. They even have rabbit! Really nice guys behind the counter who will offer tips if you have questions.

When I first moved to Astoria I liked this place. It was very convenient and they had good prices. Last time I went there I got shell steak which looked pretty nice in the display counter (not as thick as I like it cut but the price made up for that) but the guy taking my order got the meat from the back not the display case. I also asked him just to trim some of the excess fat away of another piece of meat I was purchasing and he wouldn’t even do that. When I got home to cook my steak I saw a lot of gray areas of meat and was so pissed off. After that incident I went to find another local meat market. I found International Meat Market and fell in LOVE! Talk about a real strip steak! I haven’t been back to this place since. They do have good prices here but I rather pay more for quality meats and great service and expertise.

Tomorrow is Meat Fest 2011, which is a big BBQ I’m throwing, not a subversive after-​hours orgy in Chelsea. I needed lots of ribs and good steak.
After some very detailed back and forth consultation with Kate P., I decided to check this place out. I called yesterday and asked if they had baby back ribs. The woman said yes.
I asked if they had enough in stock for me to come back Friday (today). The woman mockingly laughed, and said, «How the hell am I supposed to know what we’ll sell between now and then? Show up and maybe you’ll get lucky.» I knew I had found a real NY butcher.
I went in today and told the guys behind the counter that I wanted every rack they had. This seemed to make them very happy. They had a great selection and a small grocery section in the back (imported goods and cheeses). I would definitely come here again.
Again, Meat Fest is just a BBQ and the guest list includes several women with women parts that I am attracted to.

I grew up learning to support local business over homogenous corporate giants, and I try to practices these lessons even though I live in New York.
With its old wood floors complete with some sawdust, K & T Meat Market is where I buy meat (and a few other goodies as well). This charming butcher shop is a great option for meat loving Astoria folks like myself.
The selection is fresh, affordable and always diverse. Choose from the many cuts of meat and ask the friendly and knowledgeable staff behind the counter how best to prepare it. I guarantee you’ll be delighted by the answers you get, as they prepare your order to your liking.
Enjoy the old school vibe and chat up the woman that works at the resister that is inside an old style booth (she’s amazingly funny)
