The owner looks a little scruffy. He’s built like a butcher’s block. But most of all, he loves his food. This is what I look for in a business owner. He will shoot the shit with you for an hour, feeding you sausages, telling you about sending meat to PA to get them dried or what the subtle differences are in his recipes. There is a lot to explore here from the man from Montenegro.
Once in a while, he keeps the shop open well past midnight. This is usually the only time I can go, being about 50 feet away from my favorite bar in Astoria, Quays. It’s an interesting experience to go into a place like this deep into the night. Immigrants are usually hanging out there, sitting around, chewing stuff. It’s like a club, and frankly I’m surprised I can infiltrate.
