I found this store while walking my dog the other day… well, actually, she found it. I was new to the area and was having difficulty finding a pet store that carried quality food and the brands that I feed my dog and cat. The owner was unbelievably nice and helpful. They have the Natural Balance Vegetarian food for my dog, and would order the large bag for me and deliver it. They also carry the Holistic Select cat food and Weruva Tuna canned cat food (I have a picky cat). This has been very difficult for me to find anywhere in the area, so I’ve been getting it from my old pet store on the UES and lugging it all on the subways. I’m so happy that I found this place!

This pet store is a true little gem in Astoria. I stumbled across it thanks to Unilocal.The other reviewers are correct — it’s small but the selection is HUGE so don’t let the size fool you. Best of all the staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Easily my new go-​to spot for pet food and supplies in Astoria.

Love this neighborhood pet store! Reasonably priced — if not cheaper than local competition — and the owner is fantastic. Always giving my puppy treats and help me manage new food with my dog’s sensitive stomach by providing trial packs before I bought the «normal» bag. Would definitely recommend!

when i walked into this store, at first i was shocked by how tiny it was; i didn’t think i would find much for my cat. IMMEDIATELY i was proven wrong! they have a great selection for such an enclosed space, and the selection of food is GREAT. they have a lot of gourmet, grain-​free selections, and are a bit cheaper than you would find elsewhere. also, a wonderful selection of toys and scratching options for my cat.
also, the service there is amazing. very knowledgable, great advice and suggestions, kind, and even recognized that my bf and i were new customers. it’s hard to find service like this! they also do free delivery! i will definitely be returning — i’m glad that i have finally found my go-​to pet store!

One day, while walking my dog around the area, I wanted to find a nearby pet store to pick up some treats when I happened upon Paws & Claws.
Staff and service quality are extremely important when you’re looking for a new pet store. Everyone likes to be able to take their pup with them for a pleasant experience where they can enjoy themselves in the store while you’re picking out what you need. The owner is amazing. Hands-​down, best person I’d want running a pet-​focused business. He was so sweet with my dog and is actually very knowledgeable about pet care as he has some background in the veterinary/​medical field. I was chatting with him for a bit about some issues with my older dog and he was more than happy to help and give his advice.
When it comes to products available, I was able to pick out everything that I needed (some good grain free dry and wet dog food options, bully sticks to distract M. Riku while I’m working, dog bags) and a few extra treats that my walking buddy wanted. The owner also gave him a couple treats when we came in. Riku was having an amazing day.
Additionally, I found out that not only can you get great in-​store attention, they will even deliver to your door for free! So, if you’re not one for in-​person shopping, you should really try that feature out. I’m sure it comes in handy on the lazy days.
I absolutely love seeing someone this passionate about animals with a business like this. I really hope the best for this store. The owner makes all the difference.

We recently moved in Astoria with my girlfriend and our little kitty Phoebe. We found this little pet store few blocks away from where we live really by chance. We met Salim, the owner, he is a passionate guy who perfectly knows about cats and give you all the good tips about it. You can feel that he knows what he is doing and he is so nice! always giving treats for our Phoebe! We could ask for delivery but it is such a pleasure stopping by to buy some cat food or litter or toys! We only go this store now that we can find anything we want for our cat happiness. Do not hesitate anymore if you look for a good pet store in Astoria/​LIC Go and get to know this little place it is worth it!

AMAZING! The owner is so nice and even delivers right to your door! Even when it’s raining. Our only pet store! So glad we found them :)

Salim, the owner of Paws & Claws on 36^th ave in Astoria knows what he is doing. His shop offers all high quality pet foods and accessories. Every time I go in to his shop he remembers me and my dog Shyah and greets her with treats and pets. I am very happy to have this shop in the neighborhood. Even though I have to hike from 30^th avenue, it’s always worth the trip. It’s nice to have someone who is as passionate about my pets well being as I am and I HIGHLY recommend Paws & Claws to anyone who deeply cares about the health of their pet and likes to support local business!

LOVE this place! It’s everything I need in a pet store and it’s right in the neighborhood. The owner always gives my dog a treat when we come in — and he’s so knowledgeable about dogs that I always trust his opinion on products and food. I’ve had some experience with pushy salespeople at other stores, but Salim has GREAT customer service and a true love for animals. I’ve cancelled my online pet food subscription and I’m only going to Paws & Claws from now on :)
