I went to have brunch with a group of friends, the place is really nice and cozy. Service although friendly a bit slow. I ordered the lamb burger which was good. Overall experience was good.

I have been there once, and the food was amazing, I tried to go back two times, as recently as last night and it was closed, and the phone is disconnected. The website is up, so I am not sure what is going with this place, its very upsetting if it has closed, I love the food.

I think they’re closed. We tried to go back recently and found the phone off the hook and, while their website is up, they’re no longer on Open Table. I walked by and it definitely LOOKS closed. Someone please let me know if that’s wrong! I would love to go back!

Five star food, 1 star service. Love the simple, delicious fare. Everything was great — amazing grilled veggies. Baklava TDF. The chicken seemed a tad undercooked but that may have been me. I love how this place doesn’t rely on salt and garlic. They know how to cook. Sadly — the service is downright awful. Has to flag down the«waitress» after waiting 15 minutes for a wine and a diet coke. That was the story the whole evening. Really rotten service. They are polite ad nice, but inexcusably slow and inattentive. Music is too loud too.

This place is TERRIFIC. If it were in a location that got more foot traffic it would be absolutely packed all of the time, but for now it is a hidden gem on sleepy 34th avenue. I was always intrigued by Thymari when I drove by, since it looked modern, understated, and relaxed. Finally went with my husband on a Saturday night at 8PM for a light dinner. We opted for a bunch of small plates, and everything was exceptional. Stand-outs included the spanakopita, greek meatballs, and the phyllo stuffed with feta rolled in honey. I was surprised by other Unilocaler’s critique of the service: the gal who waited on us was sweet and attentive, despite being the only server. Will absolutely be back to try the other plates and especially dive into their yummy cocktail menu. Happy Hour, I will be back!

Food was good, bit the service was lacking. Never came to ask during meal how things were. Had to flag waitress down. Probably wont be back. Better places in Astoria.

This place was all-around terrible. Where to begin? Here are some bullet points: — I asked the guy who greeted us(was he a host? a waiter? a bartender?) if there was AC inside the restaurant. He didn’t seem to know. — We sit in the back, by the open window, and as we sit, the same guy notices visible dirt on the plate on the table next to us. He sees it, but doesn’t pick up the plate or replace it. Just leaves it there. — On our table, there was a lightbulb just sitting there. How do you not have your restaurant in order when there are customers in there? — We got a menu for a special prix-fixe that ran Tuesdays through Thursdays. When I inquired about one of those dishes, he said we could not get it, and that oops! — he gave us a wrong menu — and had meant to give us a wine menu. — I got the beef special, because it sounded good. However, the plating would have made Gordon Ramsay gouge his eyes out. It looked like the most unappetizing meal in Astoria. It tasted alright, but it was not all that exceptional. — The restaurant was completely empty early on a Friday night. That’s a little iffy to begin with. Even so, it still took forever for anyone to check up on us. The second wine glass I was going to order went unordered, because we figured we might as well ask for the check before the girl disappeared on us again. This restaurant left A LOT to be desired. The décor was very nice, sure, but that only did so much in making this visit here a worthwhile experience.

Very few Greek restaurants specialize in rustic home cooking. I feel like instead, many establishments try to blow away their clientele with overdressed, overpriced dishes that are more fusion Mediterranean than traditional, down-home Greek meals. Thymari, however, succeeds at executing simple, delicious Greek comfort food. Plus, the ambiance and the service classes up the place enough so that it can be considered comfortable fine dining. Plus, I love that they chose an off-the-beaten-path location a few blocks off of the congested main strips of Broadway and 30th Avenue. A win-win. The homemade loukaniko is juicy, tender, but also a bit lean, which I like. The octopus tastes fresh and vibrant with just a hint of acid — maybe lemon or red wine vinegar? And I love their dips, the tzatziki especially. And I actually did quite enjoy my Greek yogurt dessert with black cherries. The pita bread is fresh and delicious, and I love the way they season their potatoes. I really loved my entrée of orzo and seafood in a tomato sauce, with plenty of warm, fragrant seasonings to make me feel like I was eating at home. All in all a great Sunday meal. Can’t wait to go back and try their brunch menu! Tsoureki French Toast anyone? Yum.

I walk by Thymari often, but the stars had not aligned where I was hungry and in the right place for it to entice me. And then an Amazon local deal crossed my email and I knew it was time. Thymari has a great menu, a fantastic vibe, and super service, its hard to imagine that it took me so long to get here! The ambiance is warm, inviting, and nice — great for a date or treating your parents out without looking stuffy or formal. There is a lot of uplighting — but also a lot of warm wood colors, throw pillows at the bar, and displayed vino du jour. Classy, but not trying too hard to be something its not. I love it. The service was also great, with a charming young waiter with cute accent, attentive service, and smiles all around. Our water glasses were filled most of the time and the server was totally on top of it when we had a mixed order come to the table. They take good care of you. Getting your dinner wasn’t especially fast or slow, but I think the vibe of the place is comfortable, as in, they like you to eat at your leisure and nobody rushes you for anything. Then there’s the food. We ordered tapas style to feed three people: Spanikopita Grilled octopus Beef sliders Grilled vegetables Dip trio(Pikilia) Chocolate yogurt Apple pumpkin cake The winners were the grilled octopus, the sliders, the spanikopita, and the grilled veggies. I love grilled octopus, and theirs has a nice char and isn’t overcooked. Totally recommend. The sliders(you get three) were a standard slider size and packed good flavor. The Spanikopita was as expected and crispy, not soggy. And grilled veggies was a good large serving. The far and away losers — the dip and the desserts. The dips were… lazy? They gave us tahini, tzitziki, and baba ghanoush. While I’m not a greek food expert, aren’t tahini and tzitziki sauces, not dips? Sure, you can eat them plain with pita — but why? The desserts were half hearted. The chocolate yogurt was okay, but I could really mix Greek yogurt, cocoa, and nuts at home. The apple pumpkin cake was dense and the pumpkin yogurt on top didn’t do anything to dress the sad cake up. Ultimately, I really enjoyed my meal — but could have skipped the desserts. The ambiance and value are good, so I’ll probably forgive it and come back for more savory foods.

I and my boyfriend went to Thymari for dinner on Friday night. The place looked amazing; great set up and lovely décor. The service was wonderful, huge smile and very attentive. We had grilled octopus for appetizer. A little bit dry and definitely missing acid. My main was lamb casserole which was only potatoes(too big) and chunks of lamb. No vegetables, or wine-honey sauce. Very plain. Reminded me of some leftovers made into main dish. My boyfriend had Branzino. It is his favorite fish in the world, but this time he was very disappointed. The fish was fresh but the flavors were plain, very basic. It was served with cooked potatoes without parsley or lemon. They had a girl singing who had high pitched voice, very annoying and too loud for the place. I think it made the whole experience very bad. The restaurant is so nice that I dont understand they could not get a decent Greek cook who knows how to prepare the great Greek meal. I am sure that guest would better enjoy their dinner without untalented singing girl.

When Thymari opened, I was a bit skeptical. Not sure what another Greek restaurant would add to Astoria. But I was pleasantly surprised when i finally visited. The restaurant is beautiful. It is a casual environment, but very well decorated. There are great photos of old Greek ladies and soft candle light. The tables aren’t on top of one another and it’s a very comfortable dining experience. The server and bar tender were very nice and welcoming when we came in. The menu has a lot of Greek classics, but also a few twists. The cocktail menu had a few drinks with ouzo and meataxe. We ordered a Greek salad, the meze sampler, and a lamb stew with honey and wine. Everything was delicious. I really loved the meze sampler. They make fantastic spinach pie and stuffed grape leaves. You can tell it is all homemade– not from a can. The lamb was different and delicious. The sweetness of the honey really brought out a lot of flavor. After we finished our meal, the waitress brought us out a free dessert too! Definitely a good experience and a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. I can’t wait to go back and check out their brunch menu!

The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The staff, although they were amicable they were not very efficient. We had to wait about fifteen minutes after being seated to get bread on the table. The food itself did not take too long, however the waitress did not seem very well informed. We were not given a wine list and when we asked for wine, the waitress bought us a bottle which she did not even know the price of. This delayed our checkout process, the check took forever to come because they did not know how to charge us for the bottle of wine. The food it self was pretty mediocre. I had the leg of lamb casserole, which was served with no rice or bread and was well HORRIBLE. Overall, I would not recommend this place!

WORSTDINNEREXPERIENCEINMY9 ½ YEARSOFLIVINGINNEWYORKCITY!!! I don’t like writing bad reviews, if one looks at my past reviews, probably more than 95% of them are positive and 4⁄5 star ratings. I actually don’t like writing bad reviews but this experience at Thymari was awful to say the least. LITERALLYOURVALENTINE’S DAYDINNERWASRUINED!!! We found an add in Boro Magazine(being we are from LIC) a week before Valentine’s Day and I told my husband that this looks like the perfect place to have Valentine’s Day dinner. For a week, I sat at my work computer and kept looking up the menu bc it looked delicious and I was so excited for Greek food and wine. We arrived on time, after a few drinks at WINEGASM, which was AMAZING with amazing service by the way, I wish we just stayed there… we were seated right away. Upon being seated, my husband and I waited for OVER20MINUTES for service. We were not greeted, weren’t given menus, offered a glass of wine OR water. We waited patiently and I mean when I say that me and my husband rarely complain, we always tip over 20% and we are a very nice couple and easy to please. I saw a girl with blonde hair, wearing all black, setting the table next to u and said«Hi, how are you? to try and get her attention and she just said«Good,» and walked away barely acknowledging us. RUDE! I have worked as an executive in the hospitality industry and luckily I haven’t worked with anyone like that. We finally flagged down a gentleman who was the only nice person to us the entire night. We asked him for water and wine and he said«I’m not your waiter,» but got us a menu anyway. We asked his recommendation on wine and pretty much begged ATLEAST for a glass of wine because at this point, we’re going on a half hour now and he brought us back 1 glass to try a specific wine, that I didn’t care for so we just asked for 2 house wine glasses… Another 10 minutes goes by, no wine is served and we stil don’t know who the h#ll our server was… I walked to the manager and specificially said, «My husband and I are honestly 2 very nice people and our treatment here has been awful!» He basically ignored us and after I said we were leaving, his response was: «Thank you.» HEDIDNOTTRYANDRESOLVEOURISSUEANDMINDYOU, IT’S VALENTINE’S DAYANDVERYDIFFICULTTOFINDRESERVATIONSELSEWHERE! I spoke to a female, I’m assuming she’s a manager too, and she did nothing to resolve the situation either. I asked her to speak to the owner and she said that he or she wasn’t present. I also called the restaurant the next day and nobody answered and there wasn’t an answering machine… SOTHANKYOUFORRUININGOURVALENTINE’S DAY! We ended up walking around Astoria for almost an hour, trying to find somewhere that would accept us. Luckily, the hostess from 5 Napkin recommended an adorable italian place called Via Trenta. Upon entering Via Trenta, I explained what happened at the other restaurant and the host happily offered us a glass of wine right away, told us not to worry and said he’d do whatever he could to find us a seat. We were seated right away and treated with impeccable service. So Thanks to Via Trenta and Winegasm for saving our Valentine’s Day. Winegasm was reserved but kindly let us sit at the bar for a few drinks, engaged in conversation with us and was right on top of everything. I had the best experience here for my mother’s birthday. The waitress was friendly and gave the PERFECT reccomendations based on what we were looking for. We had the sampler appetizer, the greek country salad, and the Thymari salad. All delicious. I would easily go back there again

Had brunch here one more than one occasion and thought the food was delicious and the service quite attentive and amiable. Oh, and don’t forget to try a peach bellini — so yum! The atmosphere is lovely, clean and relaxed. I can’t wait to go back for dinner and try their fish.

We just happened to walk by on our way to another place for brunch and decided to stop in here instead. Thank the Lord, we did! Our service was impeccable, the food was slap your husband in the face good(a joke between my husband and I, meaning it’s so good you can’t help but audibly shout mid-chew), and the server tossed in a free dessert just because. The value of the meal was the best we’ve come across in Astoria, or anywhere in NY. We both had plentiful helpings at a more than decent cost with a complimentary drink(we went with Bellini’s). Great service, stellar food, excellent prices. Totally recommend.

After my incredible brunch experience, I went for dinner. Holy vegetarian moussaka, Batman! Everything was so good. So so so so very good. The waitress was helpful, friendly and attentive. The cocktails were mixed beautifully. The food was to die for. Even my companion’s eyes lit up with delight with every bite. I’ll be back. Please don’t leave me. I love you.

Yes, the space was gorgeous — cozy, intimate and inviting — but it stops there. The management and waitstaff were pretentious and unprofessional(not rude, but indifferent). If you have a new restaurant and are trying to make an impression on your customers for return business, you DONOT charge them for a plate they can not eat. It is standard professional courtesy that the waiter and/or manager APOLOGIZES to their customer, REMOVES the plate from their table IMMEDIATELY, and offers them another dish as a REPLACEMENT — NOT as an additional meal. If you want to go the extra mile, you offer a glass of wine or a small desert on top of that for good measure. No, your customer is not there to con you out of an over-salted, uncooked morsel of pork with mashed microwave peas and and a raw slice of apple. Your customer is there to enjoy their dining experience and(hopefully) bring return business. For a mere $ 17, Thymari could’ve made their customer happy, or at least willing to return in the future. Instead they have two negative reviews on Unilocal from two Greek neighborhood patrons who will make sure not to mention Thymari the next time someone asks, «Know any good Greek places in Astoria?» To be fair, yes, my lamb was«okay.»

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. The place is beautiful! Super nice servers. We ordered the shrimp appetizer. Upon first cut I realize it was raw in the middle. No big deal. they took it back. It comes out again, I cut into it… still raw. All it needed was like 30 more seconds on the heat and it would have been cooked perfectly. Oh well. Our entrees were delicious though. We had the lamb which was amazing and the fish(was it red snapper? Can’t remember) both were wonderful. Asked the server how the rice pudding dessert was. he said it was one of his favorites. Great — we’ll have that! Umm… I wish we didnt order it. It was so dense and pasty at the same time that I could have used it as mortar between bricks. Such a mixed experience… we will try it again though since it’s in our hood and it really is quite different restaurant from all of the other places around there. Perhaps it just needs to work out a few kinks… I’m being very hopeful on this one… fingers crossed.

Beautiful room. Excellent service. Ended up there on a whim with the kid. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful — but there’s no picky 3yr old eater food on the menu. So we ordered some apps and ran. Will definitely return soon The chick pea soup, lamb meatballs with olive and tomato sauce, lamb offal with mushrooms and grilled bread were all excellent and I’d order them again. Husband, in his blind hunger ordered the Greek salad which was fine — but with 4 really interesting salads on the menu this isn’t the one I’d order next time. We’ll definitely be returning. menu is really tempting and most mains are under $ 20 Leave the picky eaters at home. It’s too nice a space for little ones any way.
