100 Proof

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. More racist then I’ve ever experienced. Let 30 white people in then denied me. Never coming back. Please do not go to this bar

100 Proof is my favorite dive bar in athens. They always have drink specials, and cheap drinks for power hour on weekends. In the winter they also have hot apple cider and hot chocolate drinks. Their slushies are also a favorite. The tiki bar on the roof is so fun and chill.

Let me just say I can’t wait till Athens gets a Wet Willy’s and shuts this place down. First off they would not let one of my friends in because he was wearing slacks and button up shirt when we were all in shorts and t-​shirts. Then they kicked out one of my female friends for tripping and falling stating she was to drunk. Now if she was to drunk I would agree with kicking her out but not the way they went about it. They picked her up by her arms leaving bruises where they gripped and just threw her out the side door. If indeed she was to drunk they should have came and got us and asked us to take her out and home instead of violently throwing her out. Needless to say none of us will be back to this bar and I will be pushing for a Wet Willy’s to open.

Hmmm… Very conflicted in my review of this place. Let me start with the positives: I believe a daiquiri bar in Athens is a brilliant idea! This place has excellent drinks, and as most Athens bars, ridiculously binge drinking encouraging prices. My issue with this place stems from the inconsistencies in the service delivery. I approached this bar with a friend of mine and engaged in a conversation with the doorman who was pretty cool, and dare I say even a pleasure to chat with. Immediately upon entering, my opinion of the place was completely changed. We were greeted by a guy (whom I would assume was the shift manager, or just a jerk) who said that there was a dress code policy that strictly enforced sleeves. My friend was wearing a tank top, as it was a hot, humid, Athens 95 degrees outside. Choosing not to create a scene, my friend quickly acquiesced and offered to go grab a t shirt from his car which was parked just down the street. As I waited in the bar for him to return, I couldn’t help but notice that one of the bartenders was also wearing a tank top. Now, I don’t regularly make claims of profiling, yet it seemed very apparent that they (at least the guy that approached us) was practicing a policy of selectively applying a dress code, which by the way was not posted anywhere. Needless to say, I don’t know that I will be a regular patron of this establishment. I would also advise any employees here if you are engaging in any practices that I have alluded to in this review, it will certainly reflect in the future success of this bar.

Sideways was probably the first bar I went to regularly in college. Ah, the memories.
Sideways has a fairly good mix of college stereotypes and in my experience no «crowd» really claims the bar. The drink prices are good (as are almost all bars in Athens, GA) and the overall atmosphere is good.
Sometimes they have live music all night and it was usually a white guy that rapped. I don’t know if it was because I was always under the influence of alcohol, if it was the pure randomness of having a white guy rapping at some bar at 2am, or if this guy was truly awesome, but I always liked it. Even though its not what you would expect at a bar like Sideways.
Sideways, is right off broad street so it’s a great place to start the night to work your way beginning to end through Downtown, Athens. It also has a roof top bar section that is pretty cool too. I spent four years intoxicated, I mean studying, at The University of Georgia and I recommend this bar.
