Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

Disappointing experience. When we arrived at the Athens location, they weren’t very busy. We were seated right away and waited 15 mins for our server to take our drink order. She was actually sitting down at her friends table talking to them. Once we finally got our drinks it took her another 10 mins to take our appetizer order.
One of the cooks brought our appetizer since our server was nowhere to be found. We did not get any extra plates, we did not get the booster chair we asked, and we did not get refills on our drinks. People who came in around and after the same time we did already had their dinners… We haven’t even ordered ours yet because our waitress disappeared. (sitting down talking to her friends, 2 tables behind us) After we finished eating our appetizer, our server magically appeared and took our dinner order.
When the food arrived it was cold and over seasoned, she didn’t even take away the empty appetizer plate. We ended up not really eating anything. 10 mins after we received our food our server came by with our check and some to go boxes and told us we can pay whenever we were ready.
The service and food quality needs to be improved. we will not be coming back to this place.

Went to Cheddar’s on a Tuesday around 7:10. We ordered our drinks and food within about 3 or 4 minutes. 25 to 30 minutes later, the server breezed by once and said don’t worry it’s on its way. At this point we realized she forgot to put the order of croissants in as an app and didn’t notice my water was at the very edge of the table, hardly touched… It tasted like mildew but she wasn’t there long enough to hear me ask for something else to drink… Like I said… Breezed by. She stopped at another table that came in 10 min. after us at least 7 times. I stopped counting once they got their appetizer and a round or two of refills. A lady came in to order take out about 15 min after we arrived. She walked out with her order about 15 minutes later. The busser, poor guy made a prescribed circuit through the restaurant over and over again. He had no tables to bus and looked kind of brainwashed by the boredom. It’s easy to watch what’s going on when left alone so long. After 45 minutes, we left a 5 on the table for the beer and headed to the door. The manager was hanging out with the hostess and chatting her up at the front door. I told him he might want to cancel our order because we had already waited 45 minutes, but we left money for the beer. He said something about being sorry I wasn’t happy, but I didn’t stand there to listen. I don’t complain about service to get a free meal. I was a server for years…
I know the work is tough, but our server didn’t seem stressed and was able to take care of her other customers without a hitch. Clearly, she forgot to put our order in. Had the manger been circulating, he would have noticed the length of time we sat there with nothing to eat. This is a corporate restaurant and they have procedures that just weren’t being followed by anyone but the brainwashed bus boy. Too bad… I was really looking forward to a monte cristo. The only star I gave is for the bus boy

Very clean and friendly atmosphere. Wait staff well dressed, groomed and professional. I had the country fried steak, off the cob buttered corn and Mac n cheese along with strawberry lemonade. Large, mouth watering servings. Hot and seasoned to perfection. Things you look for when you go into any restaurant. Punctual staff and food on a very busy afternoon. Good job.

Food was fine, service was awful. After we ordered, the tables around us were seated, ate, and left while we were still waiting for salads — which were brought out 5 minutes after the entrée finally arrived. Waitress promised a manager but he/​she could never to troubled to come by. We are generally not difficult to please, but the server’s indifference was remarkable. Typing this while waiting for compensatory «free dessert.». Probably could have typed War and Peace in the time allotted.

Food is average but the service there is AWFUL!!! You literally have to grab a server for them to take your order. Sitting at the bar is best for good service but even that is sketchy at times due to a bar tender there that likes to text and not tend the bar.

Worst service ever! Waited twenty minutes for table only for it to be given to someone else. Then told by manager nothing could be done. Waited another twenty to thirty minutes for another table. Hostess then became very rude after complaining about the wait and circumstances.

Horrible service, server tried to mock my friend because of his foreign accent, That was rude. I asked for the manager to complain about the server. The manager looked at me like he was clueless and said he would handle it and sent me another server. This server was a bit better but she would get irritated after my kid asked for a refill and said «Already again» I am sorry but I am not going to let any stranger talk to my child like that. I know that they get paid like 2.13 an hour but come on be nice and I promise you will get a good tip. So we all got up and let but paid the drinks. This place does not have high standards. Never will I come here again.

One of my places to eat out! So happy to see one in Georgia so close to my house! Used to ALWAYS GO IN Texas!

I had a really good experience here. My server Mack was awesome. He even song happy birthday to my granddaughter twice! The food was good. The reason I gave them three stars is because the food is way too salty. It’s ridiculous. Also when our server Mack was speaking to us about different things, other servers were interrupting him to ask him questions. Which is very rude. But overall not a «bad» experience assuming I don’t wake up with a stroke from all the salt intake.

This place was surprisingly good after reading all the reviews. My husband and I say at the bar due to there being a long wait. The bartender was extremely attentive even though she was swamped with people. The prices are reasonable and food tastes great. We will def be back.

Mmmm… this place is good. I enjoyed the stay my first time. Though the second time we went casual dressed and were put in the corner with another casual dressed family who were very loud and obnoxious. I felt very much like I was separated from the rest of the restaurant for dressing in basketball shorts. So if you are to go go a step above casual so you can have decent seats, we did our first two times which is why it surprised us the third time.

Hello Foodies!
This place is the only place I know of that has the «Monte Cristo». this is everything that is bad for you all rolled up into one delicious sandwich. Ham and Turkey sliced with cheese dipped in egg batter, fried, then sprinkled in powdered sugar with Jelly for dipping, Trust me when I tell you This can not be missed! Ribs and Steak were great! it was a game night in Athens when we went. They ran out of baked potatoes they did not tell me this they just brought me French fries and mashed and did not say anything. When I asked my server she went I suppose to ask someone what happened, she returned 9 minutes later and said «Sorry we ran out of Baked potatoes» OK… WTF??? Whatever! It is not the end of the world, we will be back as the rest of the meal was very good. Service was just ok. I guess it wasn’t too much their fault it was game night.

Server was good, but wasn’t around a lot. We had to flag him down for a to go box and even then we barely got his attention. That being said, he was super considerate (even to special requests) and was super knowledgable about the menu.
The food was fantastic and the portions were more than plenty. We ended with the shooter desserts they had and it was an excellent. Will definitely be back!

This is a very affordable restaurant where you will receive tons of food. I always leave with lots of left overs. The food is is really good esp. Since it’s a chain. We usually get a posts dish when we are here.

Below average food, pitiful beer selection (and Athens has outstanding breweries). Crowded, poor service. McDonalds is better.

This is a very nice restaurant food is good as well but sometimes the crowd is overrated because whenever something new comes to Athens everyone runs to it and wears it out for sure! I only ordered the glazed salmon and sweet potatoes and green beans it was very good and the strawberry lemonade is so good !!! Good place for family event:) hope this helps you guys… xoxo

The wait time to be seated was 10 minutes. We were seated and we sat and we sat. Finally a sweet lady came over and we ordered drinks and food all at once. Then we sat and sat and sat. Thirty minutes later our food arrived. They were out of lemons and hamburger buns. But… The food was good. I had the soup and sandwich combo. My daughter had the chicken wrap and son in law had the hamburger. Great food. Slow service!

We went 7÷26÷15 with a party of 11. We were seated very quickly but we would not have minded waiting longer to have a table that actually accommodated all of us. Two tables that would seat 6 were put together. 5 people in a size normally for 4. We did not have room for our plates when our food arrived. When fresh drinks were brought out the original glass was not taken away. We had a tower of empty glasses in center of our the overly crowded table.
The food was great, no complaints about that at all. Just very cramped for dining.

Extremely poor service. We waited a good 10 min before anyone greeted us and asked for our drink order. Then we waited over 50 min to get our food. The manager did give us ½ off our meal for waiting so long. Food was fair. I honestly don’t see why people think it’s so good.
We will not return.

Figured by now the reports of the slow kitchen wouldn’t apply.
I stand corrected.
We’re currently sitting at 35min… for sandwiches.
There’s also nothing I enjoy more, than watching people seated AFTER us receive their food while we’re still waiting… for sandwiches.
The wait continues.
After 45min I received my Philly Cheesesteak. I’ve never had one I needed a fork for before. It was so soggy it couldn’t be picked up.
Done. Finished. Not coming back.

This place is amazing especially if you want something different like Wisconsin cheese bites, they are the best I have had! Services was wonderful and the price did not match the surrounding beautiful scenery it was cheap but not cheaply made. Was delish!!! A lot of food can’t wait to go back!

We went on a Wednesday evening and I couldn’t believe how many people were there! We waited less than 10 minutes and were seated by a very gracious hostess. Our server came promptly to get our drink orders and was very knowledgeable about the drink selections. Her service was excellent as was the food! I was so excited to learn that almost everything is made in house. We got the steak & ribs and were delighted with how wonderful they both were. I thought they were a little too peppery, but then I don’t care for pepper at all.
We will definitely be returning there for many different occasions.

This place is just not cutting it at this time. We have been here twice now. Both time was for lunch. Once during a weekday and once during a weekend. The problem is not the food but the service.
The kitchen is just too slow. You cannot come here and get out it time. This weekend we had our order in by 1230 but did not get our food till 115. 3 hungry kids who ordered MAC and cheese, my wife ordered Chicken tenders and I had the fish tacos. Now I know they are busy but come on you can do better than this.
The first lunch I had here was when they first opened up and I had to take my food to go as I was out of time for lunch by the time it came out.
These guys are getting a lot of business regardless but they are in a highly competitive restaurant area and unless they can do a better job, they will likely not do well.

Have been here twice. The food is ok and our waiters have been excellent, but everything else has been terrible. The first time we came here they were cleaning the floor of the booth behind us, and were banging the booth for at least half of the meal. Eventually they got so enthusiastic they literally moved my booth while I was sitting in it. I moved to sit across the table with my husband and they apologized and told me they were finished… Then came back and did it again! :(The second time we were here they told us it would be a 55 minute wait and it ended up being over an hour and a half. A number of other parties of similar size who came later were seated before we were. Our order was also scrambled up pretty good by the kitchen and two of the five of us needed our fabulous waiter to bring us the proper sides.
My final word on Cheddars – more training needed everywhere except the waitstaff. It’s ok but it’s no Cheesecake Factory, and I don’t understand why the wait makes it look like it’s one.

This was not a very good showing for this restaurant. Took almost 45 mins to be seated. While the whole time you can see a number of empty and clean tables.
After we were seated our appetizers were ordered and came up really fast. 5 or 10 mins.
We ordered our food and had to wait another 30+ mins. Once our food did show up one steak was cooked wrong. (Not the first time tonight. The table behind us had the same problem with a steak.) Our waitress didn’t bring bring a salad that was ordered. When she did bring the salad after the main course was delievered, and after being reminded about it. She brought the wrong salad.
Needless to say I think I’ll keep going to the Gainesville cheadders from now own.

I’m obsessed with Cheddars and based on the fact that it’s always packed like a sardine, so does the rest of Athens!
I had Cheddars back in my home state of Texas and couldn’t wait for them to open here. The only time I’ve been able to go is at lunch, and we always come around 11:30. At that time it is packed but we still get seated right away. However any other time has been a no-​go; I don’t mind waiting for a seat but my company doesn’t.
Anyway, they make the Chicken Fried Steak just like they do back home in Texas. They even call it by its proper name! Not a hint of gristle! The service is good; you can tell the servers are a little overwhelmed at times but they’ve never not been friendly. The prices are incredible, especially for as much food as you get on a plate — you won’t leave hungry. I highly recommend this place, but doesn’t look like I have to because they are always packed full!

On this past Monday March 2^nd, my daughter and I went to this new Cheddar’s in our area for the very first time. It was surprisingly busy for an early Monday evening, and being as packed as it was, I was expecting some deliciously excellent food, but ended up being rather disappointed.
After being seated, it took us approximately 40 minutes to get our food, and it really wasn’t that big of a deal, because I know that they were very busy; however, I do not expect to recieve anything on my plate less than hot off the grill or out of the oven steaming hot. My undercooked fully loaded baked potato was barley warm, to the point where the butter, and cheese on top didn’t even melt. Neither was my steak prepared medium well as requested. It was overcooked, and rather dry. So, I found the food subpar. I will give credit, where creidt is due, we did receive very friendly service from our server, but after alerting her to my disatisfaction for my food, I felt as if she could have done more to correct it, to include sending the manager by our table, which most restaurants will do upon a complaint. That never happened.
Now would I ever return to Cheddar’s? Based on this first experience, probably not. I don’t spend my very hard earned money for subpar food or service. Someone like Chef Gordon Ramsay would rip this place apart. They need to get it together, and the staff definitely needs more training.
