First off, our initial hostess/chips and salsa runner had one of the worst attitudes I’ve seen. Wouldn’t acknowledge any thanks we gave her, never brought us silverware, never smiled. Then, after ordering drinks we had to wait 20 minutes for them to even show up to the table(Mind you, we never got any acknowledgement from our server about how long this was taking). When they finally did show up, our table ordered and it took at least another 30 – 40 minutes for the food to come out. Wouldn’t have bothered me except for the fact that we had little to no contact with staff. They were nowhere to be found and never gave us any updates on how long our food was taking, nor did they apologize for it taking so long to come out. The food was decent when it finally got to our table, so no complaints there. Won’t come here again. There are Mexican places in Athens with MUCH better service and staff who actually care about customer satisfaction.

All the 7 dishes listed under vegetarian section are7 $, quite cheap relative to its portion, and the food tastes great! The veggie fajita was 8.5 $, but the size was huge, enough for two meals, and the grilled veggies were very delicious, not blend at all. Oh, the servers were as nice and welcome as they can be. Will definitely come back again.

Went here for the first time last night. Typical Mexican restaurant. Customer service was good although the server couldn’t really recommend what I wanted. Friendly and polite. Refilled our drinks promptly and checked up on us in a timely manner. I got the cazuelnos or something of the sort. A lot of meat and good flavor. Definitely a lot of food. Overall good place for Mexican food

I love el Azteca! They have great beef tips taco salads, villa especial, and grilled chicken quesadillas(always get a side of rice with cheese drizzled on it). I have been here 7 years and el Azteca is my favorite!

I heard great things about El Azteca from other coworkers, so i decided try it out. My wife and I went around 6pm and there was only two other people there eating. We were not greeted by anyone till we started looking around for an employee. When somebody finally came to the front, they just said«sit wherever you want». A young man brought the traditional chips and salsa to our table and didn’t say a word. My wife eventually asked him how he was. Needless to say the staff was not very friendly or attentive. Don’t take me wrong, I’m a very laid back person and don’t expect to much from the waiter. Customer’s like to be greeted and acknowledged not be ignored. Basic customer service 101 stuff. Anyhow, I don’t really have a lot to say about the food. It was pretty much the usual fare for a Mexican restaurant just not very fresh tasting. This place is probably fine for college students low on cash. The prices are pretty low compared to other Mexican places in town. This is just one reviewers opinion, so try it or don’t try it. It’s your choice.

I was invited by classmates for dinner and of course, I over-dressed because I was thinking dinner with classmates would be more than über-casual. That might be my fault, but El Azteca was waaayyyy more casual than I expected. There are waiters, however you must pay for your meal at the register on the way out the door. Our waiter was a little inattentive. He brought us chips & salsa and our drinks and disappeared for what seemed like over 10 minutes before we could order out entrees. The food was pretty decent and reasonably priced. Bottom line: I would remain a patron to this place because of the food and prices, however, I would probably order for take-out. The distance from my residence(west side of Athens) and the center of town make me less likely to even dine in for a casual lunch. Would grab a bite to-go if I’m over on the east side of Athens though.

My friends love this place. They have good chips and salsa, which is always a must for mexican restaurants. They have good service, and after you eat you go tell the guy at the counter what you ordered. Their margaritas are very strong and delicious! I’m not a fan of their fajitas though, because the meat didn’t seem to be too quality.

Started typical… good salsa and chips all around. Menu lists all the usual items including 7 vegetarian combos. The two spinach quesadillas on #7 were generous and delicious. Most of our group seemed to enjoy theirs… everything from simple combos to salads and fajitas, and service was extremely fast. The place is fine, but just too type-typical to get 5 stars, as nothing was truly exceptional. We will be back. There are some picnic tables outside, but I don’t think they are used/usable, but it’s early spring… maybe they will upgrade that option and open some outdoor seating.

We have eaten here now 3 times since it became El Azteca, tough location and I don’t think anything else has ever made it here, but give this place a chance! Food is decent and good prices!
