Elations

Another well lit, clean, and friendly smut-​shop style sex store, similar to Experience (also reviewed) in Athens. This used to be a Pizza Hut, I hear, and it looks a little sketchy from the outside. Windows and door have bars, and the parking lot has seen better days. Also, the strobe light in the front window always annoys me. That said, it’s my preferred local smut-​shop, especially since no sex boutiques are less than an hour’s drive from me. There seem to always be two people working there, which I like, and they are always friendly and willing to help. They do seem to ID everyone who comes in, which I also appreciate. This is the place to go if you are looking for fetish items (leather or just unusual tastes of some sort, including lots for chubby chasers), or glass smoking accessories. Less heterocentric than Experience.
Elations is on the small side for a smut-​shop, but is worth visiting if you’re not seeking a boutique experience. They offer: smoking accessories (and lots of them), sex toys, lubes, porn videos, porn magazines, fetish items, condoms, and novelties.

Smoking accessories: this seems to the store’s main focus, with about half the sales space dedicated to their selection. I’m not the best person to evaluate this section, but it does seem quite popular. They’ve got some gorgeous glass, I can say that much!
Sex toys: Most of their selection is the usual cheap to midrange stuff, but unique, pretty, and even some luxury sex items (the cone, liberators, etc.) can also be found here. Lots of Doc Johnson stuff here, especially the lines designed to suit more feminine tastes. Again, remember that jelly rubber is not good for us, and should be avoided or covered in a condom! I did a few toys here specifically labeled as toxin-​free or silicone, which made me happy. Although they have fewer toys that Experience, which is under a mile away, I would shop here for that reason. Staff is happy to pop batteries into any toy and let you handle it before deciding to purchase. Also features a large selection of sex dolls and male masturbators.
Lubes: Both trendy new lubes and high-​quality recent classics are sold here. Yay! Slippery Stuff Gel, and some other products labeled as glycerine free are offered. Glycerine encourages bacteria growth, thus raising the risk of yeast infections. Many lubes can be purchased in large pump bottles, too.
Porn videos: The focus of this store is clearly not on videos, BUT you can find a really decent selection to suit folks who like it (or at least to watch it) done in unusual ways. Big girls, latex fetish girls, pregnant girls, box sets of gonzo, point of view, feet, big asses, older couples, and other creative interpretations of sexy. No video booths.
Porn magazines: Yay! No porn-​rinds (plastic wrapped multipacks of various old issues) sold at Elations! Very small selection of porn mags in the back corner of the «glass» section, by the cig vending machine. The top shelf is all straight (and fake lesbian, for boys) porn, with all the big name mags, and the bottom shelf is gay, big girls, interracial, and a few trans mags.
Fetish items: In the left corner nearest you, as you enter the door, are the leather items. They have the standard plastic packaged items, in addition to some pieces by Achella. Achella is a lovely independent maker and seller of BDSM leather goods that I’ve only seen at BDSM events, until now. Go for the Achella stuff, which is reasonably priced and well made. Other fetishes (feet, love dolls, usual movies, etc.) are mixed in with everything else.
