Johnny’s New York Style Pizza

Atmosphere fine; service efficient, pleasant– quite nice. Unfortunately, this is as about as far from New York style pizza as we are from NY. Sauce tastes canned, toppings don’t seem fresh and the pizza lackluster. Should be thin, crispy flavorful to be called NY pizza. Sorry, first and last visit.

Johnnys is an amazing pizza joint for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, these are authentic New York style pizza done well. The crust is like real bread, just the right thickness and cook as you like it. This last time I got the chicken bacon, Yum! Pretty much any pizza will be great. You have a choice of indoor outdoor seating, inside is cool but not freezing, and there are a number of screens.
On Mondays they have slices of cheese pizza for a dollar, when you buy a beverage. And they have game nights and the staff are very cool. My server, Romy was a sweety.

Yummy. Not too greasy! They piled on the veggies, which is just how I wanted them. Went on a Monday with a friend, and he got the $ 1 slice deal! And I had THE BEST cannoli I’ve ever had.

It is a great place and their calzones are really good but unfortunately they just lost a customer today. I have gone there a couple of times and the service is great but it takes sometime for order to be ready (I understand that it is made in the moment). I have called in the past to order ahead of time so that my food is ready to eat when I get there and I don’t have to be waiting by myself for so long. Today they told me they done do that because people will make orders and then not show up… Well I thought that kind of order system was called a carry out order. But oh well, their lost.

Go pick it up! Do not do delivery! We have been waiting almost 1.5 hours for delivery! We’ve called twice — they tell us the driver left a long time ago — well — still no pizza! So … If the pizza is cold —if it gets here; we will let you know!

The food is SO GOOD. The garlic knots are some of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. The food is consistently good. Unfortunately, the service just doesn’t cut it. We used to be regulars here, it is one of my favorite places because of the food. But when you come in for lunch, and there’s literally NO ONE ELSE in the restaurant, and you’re still waiting to order after 20 minutes… This is not okay. We would be in there every week, but my lunch companion isn’t willing to suffer through the bad service every time we come here. And I mean, it’s bad. I’ve never been so consistently ignored at a restaurant before. Such a shame.

Very disappointed by call in service. We ordered very clearly and what we received did not correspond to the order. Calling back lead to an unsatisfactory conversation with the manager, resulting in the offer of a credit or a drive to the location. Upon arrival, the manager continued to be rude and unhelpful. He would not disclose the owner’s name and insisted he was in the right for his handling of the situation. Huge disappointment.

The food is great! The service is the most consistently terrible service of any restaurant I’ve ever eaten at on a regular basis. I eat out on the east side of Athens about 5 times a week between lunch and dinner and every time I go the staff has no clue who is waiting on what tables and management never sympathizes with the customer, even though the staff has no business waiting tables or running a restaurant. The last time I was there, we went before trivia to beat the crowd and ended up sitting through half of trivia just waiting on a to-​go box and the check. I’ve also been on regular nights of the week and the service is just as poor. I’m not sure who runs or owns the place but they don’t know how to run a restaurant, period!

This place is amazing! I’ve gone every week for the past couple of weeks and couldn’t be happier with the quality of food and service. It’s definitely affordable and a great place to watch the game on a Monday night!

Typically, we’re very patient individuals and understand the service industry (as we both work/​have worked in it). However, tonight’s experience was pretty rough. I had hoped it’d get better as time went on, but it pretty much stayed on track. More information below:
We waited 10+ minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were sitting… probably would have been longer if we wouldn’t have asked a waitress if we could have service. Couldn’t blame this on being busy, we were just forgotten about.
Ordered our meals– a couple of slices, drinks, a side salad, and meatballs. The slices came out first and our waitress noted that the meatballs were coming right up.
10 minutes later the meatballs came. I had thought the salad might make its way with the meatballs, but it didn’t. It came a few minutes later, after asking for it.
Finished our meals without having anyone check in on drinks. Waited a while longer for our waitress to check in. When she did, we asked for our check and two to-​go drinks.
Bill was paid and receipt was given. No drinks though– and I didn’t ask again as I knew I’d be waiting a while longer…
The foods okay. The service was off. Not sure if it’s the restaurant or our server. I’m thinking the latter of the two as she seemed rather frazzled.

Pizza was great and they have great deals on beer. Super affordable and great atmosphere

Just moved to Athens and went to Johnny’s for dinner. Service was great and the food was really good. I’m originally from NY just outside of the city and have done a good amount of traveling. While the pizza is as good as authentic NY style it was one of the closest i have had outside of NY. Garlic knots are also fantastic. This will probably be my regular spot. It is a little pricy.

I went there for lunch for the first time today. I did not know that you have to buy a drink for their 1 $ pizza special. Since I wanted two slices I ended up getting the lunch special which turned out to be 8 $ instead. The slices were huge and I was really excited to try it. I had one regular cheese slice and one with Italian sausage n mushroom.
My first bite of the cheese was pretty good. But I was super disappointed in the mushroom n sausage. The sausage was pretty much shredded into tiny bits. You can’t taste much of it. The mushroom were raw and cold. It didn’t even seem cooked. The tomato sauce tasted more like pasta sauce which was fine at first but then got boring and bland.
I wouldn’t give this place another try. Transmet definitely have better pizza. The customer service was fine but I could have gotten papa johns and be more satisfied.

pizza is rarely ever cooked right. either it’s too burned. or it’s not cooked enough. the staff is as incompetent as i’ve ever seen. on 3 separate occasions my dining partners have had drinks or food spilled on them by servers
i love spaghetti and meatballs. and it’s hard to get it wrong. and this place gets it wrong. meatballs are more breadcrumbs than actual meat. sauce is watered down and bland.
but the one redeeming quality is that the food comes out fast so i don’t have to spend too much time being disappointed while eating here

Living a short 40 minutes outside of Manhattan for 21 years of my 23 year old life, I can assure you there is nothing ‘New York’ about the food here, but it’s pretty good nonetheless.
Since this particular Athens location is just a stone’s throw from my current residence, I used to frequent Johnny’s often.
Unfortunately, however, I had to stop giving them my business as they have completely butchered my last 5 take-​out orders.
Shame on me for giving them that many chances.

This is my first visit, the pizza is… Mehh. Is not great but it’s pizza. They do have a handful of TV to watch the game on and the beer is cold. I’ll writes more with my future visits… It’s only. 25 miles from the house so that earns a star itself

Been here a few times and the food is alright. Only time I would recommend not going is on Mondays. The crowd is too much for this understaffed pizza joint to handle. Yeah, $ 1 cheese slices sound nice, but if you have to wait 45min for it then not so much. Trivia nights are my favorite, but it fills up fast so get here early. Overall on a normal night it’s worth a stop if your looking outside of papa johns, but if they get any business, you might want to check elsewhere.

Second visit was a sit down one.
Strike one: Server #8 yelled in my face when calling out to the other servers.
Strike two: Beer glass chipped
Strike three: No utensils provided and pizza not cut into slices. (How was I to eat this?)
But hey, the pizza was delicious. I loved it. Defiantly ate more the. I should have.
I maintain my 4 star rating.

Pizza is very good! Place is a bit pricey, but good food usually is. Wings are average and the lemon pepper is extra zingy. Eh, try it out.

Good Pizza, kinda expensive though (although I had a buy 1 get 1 free coupon). I had the supreme (minus sausage), and it was very tasty.
I will say this though, the cashier was kinda «confused»: I handed her a coupon that said «buy one get one free», she asked me what free one did I want, and I told her the same as the 1^st one, well she then said, «well, you have to buy one to get one free»!!! I looked at her like «No kiddn»!! C’mon nah. anyway, I digress.
Overall the Pizza is good. They have other things on the menu: calzones, salads, strombolis, etc. They also give coupons for your next visit… will mos. def. go back to use the coupons!
