I inquired about a room for the night at this Super 8 and the desk-clerk asked if I was local. Apparently they don’t rent to locals. «I don’t even want to know why you have that rule,» I said while passing her my out-of-state ID. «Crack. It’s because of crack. Dope-heads like to rent rooms and they trash the place» she deadpanned. Then she told me the rate(over sixty bucks for the night). Best believe I found somewhere cheaper … and they didn’t even ask if I was local, let-alone a dope fiend. In summary: If you want an affordable room for the night, avoid Athens Super 8. If you are a local crackhead, try the Scottish Inn down the street — they aren’t a bunch of Nosy Nancy’s.

Stayed at this hotel because it was cost effective and had decent reviews. The room was definitely dated but overall was very clean and better than expected for a super 8. Breakfast didn’t have much to offer, but that didn’t matter much for me. Happy with the room and the price.

I stayed here in 2007 for the first time because I was on a cross country trip and had been driving for at least 18 hours straight. I was just exhausted and took an exit from the interstate to find a place to get a room and sleep at 3 am. Normally, I would avoid motels for the reason that seedy activity tends to go on at them. This time I just did not care because if I did not get some sleep I would have crashed my car. I went into the lobby and the clerk was behind bullet proof glass they put up at night. They gave me a room despite the fact that my eyes were red and I probably looked like I was high on drugs. I had one of the best nights of sleep in my life at this place. I was out within seconds of hitting the pillow. The rest I got does not compare to $ 300+ a night hotels. The breakfast buffet was great for the price level of the motel. Everything was clean and orderly plus the staff was nice. They have free ice for customers in the lobby and there is a laundry room if you should need to wash clothes. I have been back to this motel driving cross country 2 times since 2007 and it is sort of a tradition now. If I am going from Texas to the NE I will stop here based just on the fact that they took me that night in 2007. Every stay has been fine with no issues at all. Athens is a very small a quiet town so it’s not likely your car will get stolen or broken into at night. Staying in a motel of this type in a big city is something I would not do though.

We stayed here while passing through, and it was the fifth hotel we stopped at, and only one with a vacancy. The hotel is older, room could use some improvement. Overall, it was clean and the front desk lady was very nice. They offered a continental breakfast, but we skipped it. It’s right off the highway, which is convenient, but if I was passing through again, I’d try to find a different hotel.
