Food is just microwaved. Service is terrible. The interior is very reminiscent of the Texas chainsaw massacre. And worst of all they just don’t care at all. Have some pride in what you do.

The BBQ coming out of this joint is legit. It’s building, design, and lay out isn’t anything that’ll have you talking, but the food is excellent! I would be down with running an IV bag of their Brunswick stew into my vein, it’s that damn good. If you’re debating what size to get, go large. Their chopped pork is good, but not a standout. What does deserve your attention is the BBQ chicken. It’s half a chicken, and a good sized chicken at that, and they do more of a Carolina vinegar based glaze. It’s really really good. A friend recently turned me on to their banana pudding and holy shit was she right. The flavor… the consistency… the sweetness… great googly moogly its outstanding. Get it. Do it. Love it.

Not good at all. Flavorless meat and stew that tastes like it came out of a can. Chocolate pie that iastes like cake batter. Bad cake batter. Go elsewhere if you must have bbq.

Wow. Worst service I have ever gotten. Went in 40 mins before they closed. They turned off the lights and we ate in the dark. Poured out their iced t so we had no refills. Mgr complained the whole ten mins we were there. Not to mention the food was only fair to begin with. Will not return.

The best Brunswick stew in town, hands down. Pulled pork is moist without being greasy, mild smoke flavor, and plenty of sauce options. Staff is friendly and welcoming. There are no frills here as far as décor so if you’re looking for fancy go elsewhere. The Banana Pudding is truly homemade and not some pudding mix concoction. Don’t miss it! The only negatives are the limited operating days and the fact that they sell Pepsi instead of Coke(gross!) But their sweet tea is excellent so I don’t even miss the Coke! If you’re looking for authentic Q, This is the best BBQ place in Athens.

Not worth it. For a large BBQ plate(a little under $ 10), you get a small dollop of pork, some slaw, and A LOT of stew. I was still hungry and ordered a sandwich on top of it, so it ended up costing me $ 17. The pork was dry and gristly. This place is so close to my house, but I would choose Butt Hutt any day. As a side note, the owner is friendly and hard working.

The BBQ shack is an Athens staple. Located across the street from the eastside Walmart, BBQ shack features standard BBQ like grilled chicken halves, pulled pork, stew, and all the fixin’s. The food here is good, but it’s not amazing. The chicken is often dry, chewy, and reheated. The ribs overcooked and burned. For your best bet, go there on Thursdays(Only open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays) as Mary only seems to cook her BBQ on Wednesdays. It should also be noted that Mary is noted for her delicious Banana Pudding… which is pretty good.
