Walker’s is mainly known for their coffee. It’s a really low-key pub place no matter what time of day. Being a big coffee person myself, Walker’s coffee is top-notch. I have never been disappointed that respect. I cannot speak about their food since I have never sat down to try it, but I have been here during the late night hours. Walker’s offered a great selection of their coffee/alcoholic drinks as well as the typical bar selection. It’s a great place to chill either during the day or having a quieter night out.

Wanted to walk around and explore downtown Athens and popped into Walker’s for a coffee. It’s centrally located so it’s a convenient place to stop by for a quick pick me up before shopping around town. The interior décor reminded me of an old English pub. I ordered a white chocolate mocha which was promptly made and delicious. The best part was that it wasn’t overly sweet like some other places. Will definitely be coming back here again to try their other coffee drinks. During the day, I have to say that this place would be a great place to hunker down and study. There’s background music playing, but it’s not blaring. It’s just loud enough to keep you focused. There are a number of students studying as well so there isn’t much chatter going on.

Just like it says when you select 4 stars for a review: «Yay! I’m a fan.» It’s a super convenient location in the middle of downtown and right across from North Campus. They serve 1000faces coffee, which is my absolute favorite. I love that it’s part bar, part coffee/study spot. Big fan!

«All right, they got water, orange juice, and what looks like cider.» — Friends: Season 3, Episode 2 A great pub in Athens when you need a drink, a coffee, a respite. The place is full of wood and warmth and quite friendly feeling inside. What really stood out to me were the booths — they are very tall(which was a challenge to get in and out of in shorts(and still be graceful), but they were still cozy but fit 8 of us without issue. Cider and beer selection on tap is pretty extensive and it was nice and chill on a Saturday afternoon. But the patrons were coming and going in a steady stream and the price was right. I understand why they students frequent this place and the alums continue to come back over and over — this is a great go-to place. Apparently, I only saw a small portion of the place — there is also a basement bar and a back patio — both of which I missed. Clearly, I need to go back and check out the rest of the place.

My first time at Walker’s Pub, I ordered a white chocolate mocha. I came back four times in the same week ordering the same drink. Can’t wait to try out the real drinks. Their booths/seating have outlets, perfect if you can be productive studying in that kind of environment. Whoever’s the DJ during my visits has great taste in music.

Walker’s Pub & Coffee is my place. You know how everyone wants to find their ‘Cheers’ bar where everyone knows their name? This place is it for me. It was my go-to hangout in Athens while I was at UGA, and any time I’m back in town it feels like nothing has changed. Eric is the silver-fox manager behind the bar who’s super cool and always cracking a joke with his staff who are all pretty much the same people as when I graduated. They have a pretty impressive repertoire considering they do coffee, tea, beer, liquor, fancy drinks, shots, bombs, you name it, they can make it. The space itself is warm and inviting with both indoor and outdoor seating. The booths inside have tons of space to spread out and study in during the day while transforming for cocktail hours and late night parties in the evening. In the basement is another bar with karaōke and high top tables which is also able to accommodate private events and bookings. The art on the main floor rotates regularly and features local artists whose works you can purchase to adorn your walls at home. They have a back patio with more booths, large televisions and tables, and a front bar area that is perfect for people watching in downtown Athens. The drinks are great and they feature local brewery creations, Georgia specials, and an impressive spiked drink menu of coffees and teas(in addition to the regular versions). They’ve also started serving food which is perfect when you want to power through that last final or need to satisfy some munchies. Walkers always takes good care of me when I’m in town and I always look forward to coming back. Even though my friends and I get older, it’s nice to know there’s a little slice of home always waiting for us when we return.

Great food, relaxing atmosphere, and friendly staff: What more could you ask for? If you go in the morning, make sure you check out their breakfast burritos. They’re incredible

I think it’s pushing it to call yourself a coffee shop if you can’t do a pour over but the coffee is decent. Free refills are nice. Stick to brewed coffee the espresso is average at best.

Rudest service ever. I’ve been here several times and the bartenders are always unfriendly, unwelcoming, and often downright rude. It’s like they go out of their way to find unfriendly people; apparently that is a prerequisite to work here. It’s a shame, because it’s otherwise a cool bar that offers a full service bar and a full array of hot and cold coffee drinks.

For a bar claimed to be one of the best college beer bars, this is a major disappointment. We wanted a cold draft beer on a warm spring day and walked in with clear intent. Saddled up to the bar and asked to see the draft beer menu. I drink drafts, not bottles, when I want to sit in a pub. The beer menu was on a standup placard and listed 5 beers on tap but 2 of them were not available. So, that leaves 3 beers and one was a Guinness. No craft beers. None. With more than one brewery in town wouldn’t you think I could ALWAYS count on a local beer making the rotation? Yeah, that’s what I thought. But nope. That pretty much did it for me. Still thirsty, we opted for a bottle each which the bartender poured into glasses. When she brought them over, one was about 1 ½ inches fuller than the other. Same size glass. I called her over and asked how could that be? She said it must have been the way she poured them. I’ll let you ponder that for a bit. And, the smell in the men’s bathroom was gut wrenchingly putrid.

I have lived in Athens since 2008 and have visited Walker’s on several occasions. I actually had a drink that I would get on every visit. But, my visit on Feb 8th, 2014, will be my last. I ordered my drink and the the employee that took the order didn’t know how to make it. Needless to say she messed it up and over priced it to. When I complained the General Manager Erik Nelson interjected. His attitude was rude, unprofessional, and belittling. I will never go here again and will recommend others to avoid as well. Worst Bar in Athens!

Day drinking on gameday requires some pacing… or at least at my age it does, especially if you aren’t planning to take a nap in a car somewhere and would like to remain upright and alert for the game. Enter Walkers! We made it to Athens early, beat the traffic and snagged awesome parking. Plan: settle in somewhere for some coffee before stalking our tailgating pals. As we walked downtown, we saw the ubiquitous folks walking with Starbucks cups, but I’m so not a fan. Good thing we held out and kept looking around, Walkers pub turned out to be the perfect place to post up and chill for a bit. Spacious in here. Large booths, free wi-fi, friendly bartenders and a semi decent bathroom! Plus dancing goat coffee? Yes sir, I’m pleased. After a round of coffee and some water, my friend noticed the hot cider drinks. For me, nothing screams fall like cider, and these hot ciders were some of the best fall drinks I’ve had in a while. The key… Start with an awesome cider. Shoulda asked what kind they were using because it wasn’t thick and sugary sweet or overly spiced. Delish. They had options with multiple liquors to boot, and at seven dollars a pop, I was pleased with the serving size. Can’t speak to the nighttime scene here, but for early morning lounging, this place has my vote!

By far the best coffee shop/pub in Athens! Sit at the bar and get to know your bartenders, and you’ll feel that«Cheers» atmosphere in no time. Grab a soy latte in the daytime and pick the perfect spot indoors or outdoors to read or study. Meet your friends at night, and choose from a large beer selection, or ask the bartenders to create an awesome mixed drink or shot with your liquor of choice. You won’t be dissatisfied!

I am from out of town, and was in Athens for a dance show with my company. We decided to walk around after the show, and ended up at this pub. It was a rainy Thursday night, so there wasn’t too much foot traffic, and my large group all found chairs at the spacious bar. The girl bartender(ess?) was beyond nice — and was extremely helpful when we had thousands of questions. She was able to handle all six of us without help from the other bartenders AND hold a conversation, which may have included showing off«jail house» tattoos and a motivational speech. They had an ample menu of hot drinks — cocoas, coffees, and teas. My friend and I ordered the Chocolate Chip drink and were both pleasantly surprised to see how nice they were served, and how delicious they were!!! Another one of the girls ordered some alcoholic tea drink with honey, and she LOVED it. Prices were awesome, location was great, and the service was extremely entertaining(not gonna lie, kind of had a drunk girl crush on the lady bartender). Oh…and they have Karaōke downstairs… just sayin’ Overall a good experience. I didnt get a chance to taste the food(so it loses a point), but it seems like it would be a lot of fun during the day, and if I lived in Athens, I would definitely come back!

I can’t review any of the alcoholic beverages, as I do not drink alcohol. So this is reviewing it as a coffeeshop and not a pub: The good: big tables, which are nice for studying alone or with a friend/friends. The crowd contains many grad students. There’s an outdoor alley and back seating area, along with front outdoor seating. The in-between: The staff is hit and miss. I would say that their mochas are not as good as Two Story’s or Jittery Joe’s, but not too far from Jittery Joe’s. The bad: It can get loud. Inferior goodies selection. Overall, this is a nice place to hang out.

Okay, this review is written from the perspective of their Bloody Mary bar on game days. So, take that in mind when reading this review. I have no experience with their coffee nor their breakfast food or what it’s like at night. So, take that with a grain of salt. We originally tried to go to what I’ll call a hole in the wall bar that would be open at 10am on game day(Flanigan’s), but alas they were out of bloody mary mix. Arggh! Okay, the bartendress recommended«Walker’s Pub» as having a bloody mary bar. Okay… kind of excited… let’s check it out. It is definitely aesthetically pleasing on the inside with lots of hardwood booths, clean bathrooms, and perfectly pleasant smell to the place. Good signs so far. Finally when we’re able to get the bartender’s attention(and legitimately I understand them being busy on game day), we tell him we’d like 2 bloody mary’s. He asks us what kind of vodka we’d like and I said the house would be fine. I’ve found that if you have a good mix, you can mask the heinousness of a lesser quality vodka. That’s just my way. So, he grabs a couple of bar glasses, then proceeds to fill them up with ice and then pour a shot of vodka in the 2 glasses and mentions that the bloody mary bar is set up over there. So, for $ 6.25 each, I get to make my own bloody mary. Seems a bit pricey for Athens, but whatever… I move onto the bar. Alas, I was very disappointed when I saw what they had to offer. They had 1, and let me reiterate 1 type of mix and it was Major Peters. Yuck! That shit is just bad. Zing Zang’s is far superior. Now, look, I understand that people have different tastes, but that’s exactly why you give people options when they have to make their own freaking bloody mary! From there it was all down hill. They had traditional spices and a few garnishes, but of course no olives. When I asked a bartender if they had olives, she proceeded to get me a couple of crap olives from behind the bar. You know, the really cheap kinds that they throw in bad martinis. What a crock! Look, maybe this place has delicious breakfast sandwiches and coffee that tastes great or WTF ever… but your bloody mary bar SUCKS! The only reason your establishment is getting 2 stars is that it’s clean and pleasant on the eyes. Other then that… what a crap experience.

Unless I have lost my mind, many years ago part of this place was the Blue Bird Café, a place where many mornings I used to have coffee on the sidewalk. But know it has been expanded into a pub/breakfast coffee house, and I cannot think of a better breakfast place in Athens. Nice large coffee mugs with free refills, incredible, and I cannot stress this enough, incredible breakfast sandwiches, and a unique ambiance/interior. It seemed most of the people staying to eat were UGA students, who were also typing away on laptops, while other people kept coming in for a quick cup of coffee to go. I may miss the Blue Bird of my past, but I am happier with the Walker’s pub of the present. FYI there is a Starbucks right next door. DONOT pass up this place for it. The coffee is better here, and this is Unilocal, support the local places.

As the face of my alma mater continues to change, it’s nice that some things always stay the same, and Walker’s is one of those things. Coffe shop/chill bar/ballin’ patio all describe this little bar right off Broad Street in downtown Athens. It’s not a «see and be seen» kind of place, so don’t worry about dressing up to the nines, but it always has an interesting flow of people so you’re never without someone to talk to(or about, if you’re a people watcher like me). The new booths are great for squirreling away into during the day when you need to get some studying done, or for accommodating an ever growing group of revelers as the night wears on. They don’t all know my name here, but I get the feeling this is the closest I’ll ever come to a «Cheers.»
