The staff are full of enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. The food is unbelievable. I’ve had their chicken and waffles and I have NEVEREVER had a dish that was that good. I will make sure to come back and bring friends. Did I mention that proceeds go to a good cause? I will gladly fill my belly with good food for a great cause. TIP: Get there early because this place gets busy!

I’ve been to many places for brunch in Atlanta but none have left me happier and fuller than café 458! This place has great prices and even better food. Additionally, the fact that all its profits go to a worthwhile charity convinces you to be extravagent with your ordering. We, my bf and I, started with a slice of fresh peach pie made by a 12-year-old volunteer(insanely good). Then we split a short stack, shrimp and grits, and the hipster hash with tofu. Everything was cooked perfect and the free refill coffee was a great compliment. Looking forward to going many more times!

Read the reviews and decided to try it out. It was a cute little hole in the wall place. The four of us ordered and waited for the food to come. 25 minutes later we started to question where our food was and why our coffee cups were empty. The manager came to us and asked if we were in a hurry… our waitress had taken on too many tables and hadn’t put our order in. We said to not start it and we went next door to Edgewood Corner Tavern.

This place is run by volunteers with an effort to end homelessness in Atlanta. I was blown away by the hospitality and the warm welcome. The back of the menu lists homeless teens who have turned their lives around as a result of this restaurant. It’s sponsored by ACSS. I love this place

Food was good. Had the soft scrambled eggs w/salmon. Also, the food tastes better knowing that it’s all for charity. It was only 2 of us but because it’s so small, larger parties may have a longer wait

While staying a very short time in Atlanta during our travels to Florida, we decided to venture into downtown Atlanta to have Sunday Brunch. Given my parents aren’t ones for trendy cuisine, I was tasked of finding a place that would make them comfortable while still satisfying my love of eating in other cities! I stumbled upon Café 458 on Unilocal, duh, and took the time to read a couple reviews to which awarded the restaurant it’s 4-star rating(in an apparently not-so-perfect area of downtown Atlanta). And there it was… Café 458 during the week is a homeless food pantry yet converts to a brunch spot on the weekends! Best part, the folks operating the café(any day of the week) are all volunteers! WOW! I called and Jamilah happily helped me secure a reservation for four at 11:30am… and then helped me modify it to 11:45am a mere 40 minutes later. Lol. She was very patient and informative during both calls. When we arrived, still 10 minutes late, Jamilah sat us immediately in the main dining room parallel to the kitchen action! Great table! Our server, Jennifer(I think, sorry!), greeted us within a minute of seating and said it would be a couple more minutes. As it was a first-time visit and unfamiliar with their menu, we were more than okay with this and appreciated the heads up! Shortly after, she came back and grabbed our drink & food order. The one-page menu featured hearty breakfast items at exceptionally reasonable prices, including an array of non-alcoholic beverages. I ordered their Chilaquiles Verde(traditional Mexican breakfast nachos), my dad and husband ordered their Breakfast Sandwich & Fries, and my mother ordered a few sides from their«Build Your Own» section. We were all pleasantly pleased with the efficiency of service as well as the quality of the meal preparations! A note to all considering if dining here is worth the trip… while it is a non-profit establishment with volunteers as your service staff, I wouldn’t have known otherwise to a normal restaurant had the reviews not mentioned this. My dad especially(a Midwestern conservative) was highly reluctant to take my brunch suggestion, and he even left with full tummy AND heavy heart! Keep it up, what a great cause supporting ACSS!

I cannot say enough great things about this café with a cause! Nestled on a storefront corner of Edgewood, Café 458 is small yet warm and inviting. When I initially walked in, I wasn’t ready for the real home kitchen style seating, service and atmosphere! All of the servers are volunteers yet they’re better then most! Upon receiving the menu and discovering that all monies go to the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, I was even more anxious to see what deliciousness this place had to offer, but the food was just average. I got a chorizo dish, which I barely touched but I enjoyed my pancakes. My friends’ typical build your own type eggs with sausage n toast plate breakfast was just okay too but GO! I just really like the feel and purpose of this lil café, only open on Sundays, to serve a purpose!

I went here with my grandmother, her fiancé, and some friends from the great state of Alabama… So, to start — the food here is really well inconsistent. If you get biscuits and gravy — it is rather small servings and terrible. If you get hipster hash — its delicious and plenty of flavor Chicken and waffles — you won the lottery(or so grandma says — bless her heart)… At least you will always feel good you are doing something good by eating here. Oh and the volunteers are so friendly and happy to be here. Not always perfect… but they try really really hard. Oh and at this point, this is still a hidden secret so even on a busy Sunday… there is still plenty of room…

I LOVE the concept!!! I had to remember the cause which is an amazing one to help those in need. But the food just wasn’t good. I feel bad saying it but I’m happy to have contributed to a great cause!

Stumbled upon this place and had no idea about their mission of stretching the homeless. It’s staffed by volunteers but there do a great job. And the food — why I came here in the first place — was delicious! Had the chicken and waffles special. This is what if call eating with a purpose.

Total fan I must say. Wait staff was particularly friendly and hospitable. Felt good right from the get go, considering Sunday morning, and parking is atrocious downtown. However, food was not disappointing, wait staff is volunteer, so the attitude is very different, versus someone who, «has to work.» Putting it lightly, had shrimp and grits with sofrito; woke me up from the get go. Good spice and flavor, plenty of grits, with a decent quantity of shrimp. My girl had the green chile poached chicken with fried eggs; their version of Migas I would put it. Very savory! Also tried the pancakes, nothing too fancy, but were tolerable. Wait staff took a while to notice if drink orders were taken, communication seemed kinda lost, considering, staff and guests commune like a family getting together for a meal after an event. The place itself is very small, and we were sitting at the bar, or counter section I would say. However, I did feel very welcomed and part of family connection, like a couple of cousins that showed up late and needed catching up. But, as for expecting restaurant wait staff service, you won’t find it here. This is a horse of a different color, and I enjoyed this experience. If you need somewhere to catch brunch midday with some positive vibes on the side, this is a good spot to try at least once. Till then, Cęst la vie!

This restaurant has a really cool concept — it opens just for Sunday brunch, all of the servers are volunteers, and the profits go to help homelessness. Servers were all very friendly and they were great about getting food out quickly and keeping the coffee cups full. The food itself(in my party we tried the breakfast sandwich, the biscuits and gravy, and the hash) was ok, but not great(biscuits were a little chewy, hash was too salty). So I don’t think I could recommend going to this place based on the food alone, but I think it’s a really cool concept, and worth checking out at least once(and those entrees are only $ 8-$ 10, so the stakes are low)!

I really enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. The cinnamon hot cocoa was good. But my husband’s coffee wasn’t hot, and the sausage gravy was good but not filling for him. Great service, great cause! I plan on returning.

Oh yea! This is it. Awesome breakfast. And it is all to support the great work of the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency that works to provide life and career coaching for the homeless. I would eat here every day if I could. Keep up the great work!

Stopped Café 458 while Ubering and looking for breakfast. Came upon this place that I have driven by more than a few times and never knew it was there. I was greeted by the hostess upon entry and they were very warm and friendly. After reading the back of the menu I learned that by eating here you also help support the community. This kitchen gives back to an organization that helps less fortunate individuals during here time of need. I ordered the shrimp and grits minus the grits me and grits don’t get along lol. The shrimp were very tasty and my eggs were just right. I would come back just to support the men and women who volunteer at this establishment. The food was very tasty! Giving the 4 stars for their service of helping others.

While this place has a benevolent purpose(all proceeds go to programs that support homeless people, except the chef’s and office manager’s salaries) I am sorry to say that the food we had was terrible in many ways. First, they have very limited options in the menu(maybe they should get a new chef?), and when we ordered they had run out of their specialty pancakes and also french toasts. So we ordered the Beef Brisket and the Egg Breakfast(eggs, chicken sausage, grits, biscuit and for $ 2 more, small pancakes). My beef brisket was super dry and they had no BBQ sauce to make it better. My wife hated her entrée; she didn’t like anything of it. Even the pancakes were undercooked. The biscuit was ok. While we wish them the best, we won’t be coming back.

Great food and even better service!!! When you walk in you’re greeted with smile. Every person in there is a volunteer, however they treat you like you’re at a 5 start restaurant. Everyone came over said good morning and spoke to us! I feel so great after having brunch. The good food and great company has my morning off to a fabulous start! I will be back…

Food was delicious, it’s all for a great cause. People mostly volunteer their time for the Sunday brunch. You can also go to the website to signup and volunteer. I must admit it can be a long wait on Sunday’s and it gets pretty busy. I suggest rsvp’ing on the site before hand. It took 45 minutes exactly for our meal to be brought out that’s how busy they are with volunteers serving as waiters . Food is amazing just have patience when coming here. Free parking in the parking lot of the building. Not enough spots but first come first park.

Amazing concept. All proceeds go to charity. All«employees» are volunteers. I ordered the catfish and grits. Overall, tasty, but the fish could’ve used more seasoning — somewhat bland. The grits were perfect. The service was exceptional and friendly. I mentioned causally to my guest that I needed to ask for hot water and two seconds later, it was on my table. Talk about attentiveness! I’ll definitely come back during my next visit to Atlanta.

Love love love love love this place! First off we came here for brunch & had no idea about the concept. The people are sooo nice here & to think 100% of our money going to help homeless is incredible. I had the steak & eggs special with whipped cream & berries and it was excellent! The steak was seasoned so well and the berries sooo scrumptious! The sweet potato pancakes were wonderful. Wish I lived here so I could eat again & volunteer!

Things were very good for a first time visit. We met Marin and Ali upon arrival and a host of beautiful Spelman volunteers. These ladies, including the Chef were amazing. The catfish was perfect and the home fries are D-Lish! Once you visit you will be here again. Sorry for not providing pictures of the food, but trust that the things I review are with the utmost integrity. enjoy this and many more!

I remember when I was in high school we came to this place to volunteer. I never knew this place existed or if it was open the few times I passed by her as a child. Of course being in high school I wasn’t open to volunteering my time on a Saturday morning. I am forever grateful that I did. My task for that day was hosting. I spoke to the guest showed them where to sit & gave a menu. It was an awesome experience in the end. I learn the reason about this establishment & everything they do for the homeless. My mood change & I felt great about giving back. Moving forward to now the service is still awesome & the food was delicious too.
