I am sad to report that nothing much has changed in the six months since this location was last reviewed. I believe however that many of the problems I witnessed was due to the people attending the event that was hosted there. They were a little up tight in this beautiful location. No one was on the dance floor. There was not a lot of intermingling. The staff was night, the bartenders so-so. I agree also that the music was too loud for the lounge atmosphere. Had people been on the dance floor, the level may have been more appropriate. The location beautiful and the drinks reasonably priced. Someone should throw a party there and invite me!

This past Monday, we had our Neighborhood Happy Hour at Canvas. I’ve been meaning to check this place out and to my surprise it’s a really nice place! The drink special was a banana-berry martini, which was more like a dessert than a drink! They have a very small menu of food, but from what I have seen… it looks pretty good! There was a DJ spinning as well, but the music was a bit too loud for this type of space. It was nice to also find out that they feature a new artist with their work every month, to keep the lounge fresh. One of the Managers, Rose Virgil, gave us a tour of the facility. We found out that the lounge area is called Canvas, but downstairs is an event venue space that you can rent out called The Loft. Definitely a fantastic space for a wedding, family reunion, surprise birthday party, etc… I highly encourage everyone to check Canvas out… it’s another great addition to the Castleberry Hill Neighborhood!

Canvas has so much potential. I think this place is just getting started. The décor is amazing. They have canvases hanging on the ceiling with beautiful art work on them, dark lighting, and comfortable couches to lounge on. The atmosphere is very laid back and classy but not pretentious. The line outside was what drew me in but, it was one of those situations where there were more people in line than inside. It quickly filled up, though. Upstairs were the sounds of hip hop radio play club type music and downstairs was reggae. Good reggae too! The dance floor is huge with plenty of room to break it down or people watch. The bartenders were quick and the drinks were well made. I just wish more people would dance. It was kind of like a high school dance with people standing on the sidelines waiting for someone to start the party.
