This place hasn’t decided if it wants to be a sports bar or an upscale place. After eating there, I think it should be a sports bar. My scallops were overcooked and too salty. I couldn’t even eat it. The waitress was rude, didn’t even apologize or get the manager. They need to take off the entrees and just have burgers. My appetizer, buffalo chips, were good, but sadly that was all I had to eat there. The atmosphere was confusing. Upscale décor and table clothes with slow casually dressed servers and laid back feel. The menu was a mix, failed with upscale. Needs to reposition themselves as just a sports bar. Food quality wasn’t up to par. Very disappointed.

So we had reservations for 8 on a Sunday night at 6pm. The place wasn’t busy, they had our table ready, brought us our drinks, we ordered. They had a chalk board with their specials so 5 out of the 8 people ordered the prime rib special. So about 15 – 20 minutes later(can’t understand why it took this long), the waitress comes back to us with menus in hand to let us know that they ran out of prime rib. Actually only had one order so only one of us could get it. So my wife says she’ll take it only if it is rare or medium rare and the rest of us reorder our dinners. So after the waitress leaves, we discuss the fact that it was their«special» that they ran out of and it was only 6 pm and there were probably only 4 other tables occupied in the whole place. Why have a special when you don’t have sufficient quantity to start out with? Not sure if it was the fact that half the table had to reorder our dinner but it was well past 7pm before we saw any food. And unfortunately, my wife’s prime rib came out medium. Of course, she couldn’t send it back so she had to eat it which is hard when you are a carnivore that lives for rare meat. The food itself was meh. I had the mussels and a house salad(instead of the prime rib). The final straw was our checks came out and and she didn’t charge us for the alcoholic drinks. We thought that maybe they did it on purpose to comp us for the poor experience. But no, it was actually the waitress’ incompetence as she simply forgot to charge us. She did thank us for bringing it to her attention though. Oh, and as we were leaving, we noticed that the prime rib special was still on their chalk board, well over an hour and a half after they told us it was sold out. I guess they must have misplaced their chalk eraser. I usually find that Unilocal ratings are actually very accurate but our experience will not have any of us returning. It’s been a very long time that I’ve given 2 stars to any restaurant.

Recently went here before a Chastain Concert(Lady GaGa & Tony Bennett). Perfect choice for 6 women on a Wednesday night. We all enjoyed the half price wine with our dinners. Service was good. Food was great. My friends love their salads, and scallops. I had the prime rib sandwich and it was very tasty. They accidentally brought fries instead of the side salad and they quickly returned with my salad. My friend ate some fries and she said they were good! I have to mention Joey, the bartender too. He is very friendly and said we should choose the Tavern for all our pre-concert dinners. I think we will! :) And we will be back on Wednesdays for sure!

Great food, great service, nice atmosphere. the staff was very quick, friendly and knowledgeable. The head chef even visited with us at our table for a conversation about the Cuban items on the menu. An enjoyable experience all around.

This place has lots of potential. It has a great atmosphere with modern/trendy décor inside and relaxing patio outside. It’s great for a date or kicking back with friends. I came for ½ off wine night. They have a great selection of beers and wines. We had a few of the Pinot’s and Syrah and they were decent. FYI normally these are $ 34 per bottle I also got the Steak Salad with pecans, apples and arugula. It was great. My friend got the Cuban Steak Sandwich and it was very good too. Another friend got the Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich and he loved it. Another got the Shrimp and Grits and I wanted to eat them up, they were perfectly fluffy(so many restaurants fail to do this) and seasoned to perfection. I really don’t see why the negative reviews. They service is friendly and understanding(we broke a wine glass and the waiter just chuckled). The atmosphere is chill and plenty of parking. As for those reviews who complain about the prices I was almost scared off from trying this place. I hate Buckhead prices(we do it cause we can) but they are very reasonable here. Appetizers range from $ 6 – 18, Sandwiches range from $ 9 – 13, Salads $ 9 – 13 but the dinner entrees are in the $ 14 – 25 range. So, if you’re on a budget like me, pick from the Salads or Sandwiches. They are just as yummy.

I met an older friend here, and I picked Chastain Tavern specifically for that reason because it is definitely a grownups establishment. When I told my friend to meet me there, she initially thought it would be a shady kind of place, so she was thrilled to see how upscale it is and how adult-friendly. Happy hour runs from 4 – 6(at least on Fridays) and there is a discount on wine and beer plus $ 5 appetizers. I ordered the kettle chips with blue cheese and my friend ordered the avocado spring rolls. The chips themselves were perfect; you could tell that they are house made. The sauce was scarce and the chips were a bit bare with the sauce alone. I’d requested that bacon pieces be added hoping that would spice the chips up a bit but the bacon didn’t make much of a difference. I think the chips would be better sprinkled with salt and vinegar. My friend loved the avocado spring rolls which came with a sweet-n-spicy dipping sauce. The avocados are chopped, wrapped in the roll dough and then flash fried. It’s a small serving, but reasonable for the $ 5 price. I ordered my standard — vodka lemonade, and the bartender Joey delivered two of them in a hasty manner, so I was pleased.(My friend does not drink.) As time went on, the clientele looked a lot one would expect from the area(yeah, I’m stereotyping but it works here so…) and it had a nice crowd. I would recommend Chastain Tavern if you’re in the area and want an adult, non-rowdy vibe; and I’d like to go back and try a regular menu item.(The kitchen showed some promise with those kettle chips.) I parked in the spaces alongside the building, and depending on the time you arrive(i.e. after closing hours), it’s okay to park in the lot with the dry cleaners. Unilocal 100 #22

Not a great feel. While waiting to order noticed waitress behind counter dancing to their iPhone music. Sloppy looking guy at bar eating dinner and next thing he is behind bar serving drinks. Ordered prime rib sandwich which should be a piece of prime rib on a bun. It was saved roast beef which really should be called a French Dip. Big difference. 1st time in but seemed run a little unprofessionally. My guest ordered a pasta dish that was just fair.

Chastian Tavern is a new pub in the Chastian Park area. There are not a lot of options for pubs, especially upscale pubs in the area so I was excited just because of that. I have been here several times now and each time I leave with the same satisfaction, good food, great service and stellar drinks. The owners are there most of the time and always come around to say hi to the patrons. They have a guy that comes in and plays music, not exactly sure which days or if he is on a set schedule. They also have ½ wine on Wednesday which is always a plus. I am definetely a fan and will be back soon!

This is the place to go if you are looking for a fun environment, engaged staff and tasty food. The comprehensive menu spans diverse cuisines and offerings. Bartender Joey made our visit noteworthy. He connects with each guest and makes you feel like a VIP … whether it is your first or fiftieth visit. Always service with style and a big smile! The Bloody Mary bar is highly recommended as are the extensive wine & beer offerings.

I make a special trip up here to have a drink with my favorite bartender in Atlanta — Joey. If you are hanging out at the bar with him and you aren’t having fun, I just am never going to understand you. The food — pretty delish. I had the quinoa salad, eggrolls, and steak. No complaints here!

I really wanted to love Chastain Tavern. It’s so close to my house and seemed like a worthy addition to the neighborhood. However my experience was a letdown. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a later lunch. There were only two people running the front of the house — a manager and a waitress. Although there were only a few other tables of patrons, it took forever to place our drink order. Minus 1 star. In total for an order of fried pickles & jalapenos, 2 sandwiches and 2 beers, with tax and tip we paid $ 40. We could have bought a 12 pack of beer and grilled our own burgers at home for half that price, or gotten a pizza and 2 pitchers of beer at Fellini’s next door, but I guess this is Buckhead pricing. Minus 1 star. The bathroom here was gross… and cold! It was freezing back there! There were flowers dying in the vase. My stall was out of toilet paper. There was trash on the floor. Minus 1 star for the nastiness. Keep 1 star for food(the brioche bun on the burger was good) and 1 star for ambiance. The patio here is probably lovely when the weather is nice, so if this place makes it to Spring 2015 then I might give it another shot.

Trying hard… Love the menu, love the concept, love the atmosphere, definitely love the location(1 mile from home, always a good thing), like the food. Been to Chastain Tavern a couple of times now, and I’m still chasing the burger high I got the first time I ate there. Honestly, the first time I had the Chastain Burger was about a week after these guys opened and I described it to my business partner at the time as «the best burger I’ve ever eaten in my life.» Strong words, and the benchmark was set quite high right off the bat. I’ve ordered the same thing a couple of times now and it just wasn’t quite the same as that first time. Not bad, just not mind-blowing. I’d say the same thing about most of the stuff I’ve tried so far. Good, not great, but definitely a solid«good» rating. Needs work is maybe better suited as there is so much potential here. Service was OK, definitely needs work, but nothing obvious to complain about. Décor was great, fitting for the neighborhood, and comfortable without being pretentious. Wine list is good, again, fitting for the neighborhood, just like the rest of the place All in all, I’d say give these guys a shot. I’ll report back after next visit and see if we can up this thing a star or two.

I went to Chastain Tavern last night with some friends to celebrate a birthday. It was Wednesday which means ½ price all bottles of wine(caveat…only the bottles of wine that the sell by the glass are half off, but still it’s a good variety). I would’ve rated this 2.5 stars, but our waitress was so timid and nice I had to bump it up, because 2 stars just felt wrong. I had the quinoa salad and added chicken with the red wine vinaigrette. It was pretty tasty, but not knock me out of the park tasty. We did, however, start off with the cheese board which was pretty good as far as cheese boards go, though our servers did label one of them«french goat… the name is french so I can’t say because… it’s french.» Right then. It wasn’t super busy, so I dont know why, at the end of the night, it took us 40 minutes to get our checks after asking for them. 40. There was one other table, and it wasn’t being staffed by our waitress so I’m not quite sure what the deal was. Overall I’d probably go back because the food was decent and… let’s be honest… half priced wine. Id probably pony up at the bar next time, hopefully the service will be better.
