After only two visits, I couldn’t wait any longer to post a review and share this gem with the Unilocal community. The location was once a mechanic shop, so when I passed by and saw that it was now a restaurant, I never thought I would ever eat there. After seeing passing by on numerous occasions, noticing that there were always patrons frequenting the establishment, I decided to give them a try. Unlike many Jamaican restaurants, where the cashiers are rude, the staff here are quite pleasant. The first thing I noticed were the prices, which are very reasonable. I ordered the Jerk Chicken meal, which comes in two sizes(small and large). The meal comes with rice/peas, cabbage(recommend substituting collards), and plantains(which are fresh and prepared perfectly). The chicken was authentically jerk-smoked and the sauce is «crack»(borrowing the cook’s description). I come away highly recommending the Jerk Chicken meal. I will try the curry chicken next and provide an update.

Since Calypso Café closed, I’ve been at a loss for where to get good jerk chicken in our area. Having Dat Fire open up in Castleberry Hill therefore made me very happy. The chicken is grilled to perfection, and the jerk sauce is good and spicy(and served on the side, so you can add as much or as little as you want). The plantains are sweet and cooked right(I like dipping them in the jerk sauce for that sweet/savory combo). I’ve had both the beef and veggie patties and enjoyed them as well. The curry chicken is tasty too. But I keep coming back to the jerk chicken. It’s just so good. You get a ton of food for the price, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. This is a great addition to our neighborhood.

This place lives up to its name. The jerk chicken is the best I’ve had at a restaurant, outside of making my own. What separates this place’s chicken is the fact it’s actually cooked over fire(charcoal I think) which imparts that great smoky flavor absent from most hole in the wall places’ jerk. Plantains were great, soft and sweet without being overcooked, the best I’ve had at a Jamaican place(for some reason a lot of Jamaican spots screw these up). The cabbage is more of a bright coleslaw pretty lightly dressed, but provides a nice freshness and contrast which is less common for spots like this. The rice and peas were alright, a little dry/bland for my tastes but if you get a saucy dish, probably not an issue. The beef patty was tasty as well, definitely homemade(some places around here use frozen pre made patties, blasphemy!) with a nice slightly sweet note to the filling. The vibe of this place is great, various Caribbean record sleeves adorn the walls, and its clean for a hole in the wall joint. Service was great as well.

Can we talk about the lost art of customer service and how this restaurant has single-handedly brought it back??? and that observation is just the jerk sauce on this amazing Caribbean find!!! I had the jerk chicken… I had the jerk chicken… I. had. THE. jerk. chicken. It was so good. Not too spicy, not drowned in sauce, which by the way you can add yourself, at your leisure. and it’s two different sauces, a BBQ and a Jerk sauce. I’m not Jamaican, but my bestie is. Well she’s Jamerican. This makes me an aficionado, once removed. Just go!!! You will not regret it!!!

Superb!!! Wanted something different for lunch; purchased Jerk Chicken. It was exactly what my stomach wanted. Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas, and Cabbage; just the way Grandma use to cook.

This isn’t «As good as it gets!» This is the best. And for the money it’s just ridiculous. Make sure to get there early because they do regularly sell out of product, and they close at 8. I found out the hard way and went through the 5 stages of grief. Denial, bargaining, etc. Chase the Dat Fire dragon at your own risk… it’s a blaze of delicious, delicious glory.

Friendly staff, food was seasoned to perfection. I had the jerk pork and it was excellent. Spicy like it should be not watered down like some spots. Will def be back

Wagwan! I just want to thank God *falls out* Deacon get the blanket! Hahahaha Dat fire is DATWORK!!! The best this side of ATL! Definitely sends your tastebuds to Jam Rock! Courteous and prompt service. I ordered the jerk pork/chicken dinner which came with 4pieces of chicken, 2 piece pork and more than enough rice and peas, cabbage, and 2 plantains. I love that they give you the option of sauce(jerk or BBQ) on or on the side because of course I hate it when people paint my chicken as if they know my life and how much sauce is good for me lol if you don’t like sauce no worries meats were perfectly jerked, tender and juicy(the pork was extra juuuuicy). I got some stew gravy for my rice(which was more like a cuban r&b rather Jamaican, still very good) and that gravy alone let me know the stewed chicken is hitting! I also ordered a spicy beef patty and coco bread, which didn’t make it home. Omg so fresh and delicious! The closest in taste I’ve had to JA in The states. I really appreciated how the bread was kept nice, a little crisp and especially warm SLIDTHATPATTYRIGHTINTHATTHANG they offer a variety of beverages(menu posted in pics). I’m gonna have to put in extra hrs at work and the gym because baby I’m HOOKED!

Jerk master Jay makes it right. Good and spicy. It’s nice to finally have a solid Jamaican spot in the area. I can never decide which I like more the jerk or the curry chicken so I get them both. The plantains deserve special mention. They’re so soft and juicy. I like to get extra jerk sauce to dip them in. It’s another great example of how everything here is cooked just right. Nothing is overlooked or dry which is easy to do.

Their catering services came to me recommended in the highest regard so I hired them to cater my mothers house warming party. The experience was most enjoyable from the customer service to the food, and they were a big hit with my guest. The Jerk chicken was AMAZING!!! By far the best I have ever had. Dat Fire Jerk Chicken most definitely lived up to its name.

«I want to be buried in a vat of DAT Fire Jerk Chicken when I die. Because they are reloacted to Atlanta I now have to travel via PLANE but this was a go-to for quick, delicious, cheap lunch or dinner. Everyone is nice including the owner! The service is good! the food is good, nice portions… I will order something different when they reopen but really but the food and the drinks speaks for itself — You havent had great jerk chicken until you’ve tasted DatFIRE!!!
