Gables 820 West

I love living here! The maintenance staff is exceptionally nice and more than willing to fix whatever you have going on. I asked the staff member if I could borrow ladder to change lightbulb and he just came in and did it for me… right then and there! The pool is really nice and relaxing I don’t any noise complaints just the occasional echoes in the hallways with large groups walking by… The gym is also great (²⁴⁄₇ open) a lot of the equipment has a TV attached to it not all of them work but still really nice. All of the people I’ve met at the pool and walking around everyone lives here seems to be very friendly. I lived here for five months and this is the first place I’ve ever lived where I’m truly happy with everything… I’ll write another post at the end of my lease.

The location is great. It’s very close to the center of Westside, downtown, and GaTech. The apartments are very nice with granite countertops and small balconies, and the grounds are kept relatively clean. The staff is also very nice.
Minor issues:
1. If you’re on the side of the complex facing Joseph E. Lowery Blvd there is constant train noise at night, so if you’re a light sleeper this isn’t the place for you. The train’s horn can be particularly annoying.
2. Picking up packages can be a hassle because they must be picked up at the office, which closes whenever a potential tenant is being shown around.
3. The appliances in the model apartment, in my case, were superior to what I received in my residence despite being assured otherwise when I was being shown around.
4. I have had several minor maintenance requests that have been ignored.
The only major issue is security. There have been multiple car break-​ins, car thefts, and apartment break-​ins since I’ve been here. To gain unauthorized access to the building, people simply loiter around the entrances until someone walks along and lets them in. There is also zero surveillance once you get past the first floor in the parking garage. There even signs stating this to assure potential criminals of this fact.
Overall, it’s a great location with nice apartments if you don’t mind train noise and occasional criminal activity.
Edit: My renewal called for a nearly 15% increase in rent, so I’ll be moving. There are better places to live for the money.

Good location. Traffic can be an annoyance since it’s so close to ga dome. Didn’t have any issues moving in. I will however say that it’s incredibly frustrating to come in to pick up packages and no one is available. They don’t have enough staff. When they are out giving tours, the office is closed. There have also been several instances of break-​ins into cars and houses. Maintenance responds quickly, but I’ve had more issues in the last year with things than I did at my last apartment and I was there for 4 years. I’ve also had issues with mail not being delivered or being delivered late. Clearly bit the fault of the complex, but still an issue a friend who lived there, and I have had. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend living here. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This place is in a great location but it is a bit noisy. If you live on the West Marietta side you will hear buses and trucks and cars all day everyday with no break. After a while you become immune to it. If you like piece and quiet this is not the spot for you. If you want something close to the city with access to everything then you found the right spot. I loved the inside of my apartment the brick back splash was awesome. And the closest were huge as well as an amazing kitchen that was open. I really enjoyed living here.
Now they need to get valet trash because ppl are lazy here and do not put their trash in the chute. And the hallways smell like weed at least once a week.
Good experience here but not worth the money that they were trying to charge. Tenside is way better than here but they are crazy expensive too. Now I live in Smyrna and love it.

I lived here for a year and my experience was pleasant with no major complaints.
Pros:
— The curb appeal is nice. I enjoyed driving in everyday to an esthetically pleasing building.
— Maintenance completed all of my work orders within 24 hours 9 times out of 10. They also knew the residents pretty well.
— You have to key yourself out of the gate. This may be a con for some, but I looked at it as added security.
— Washers/​Dryers in every unit, granite countertops, brick backsplash, stainless steel appliances are a plus.
— Great view of the Atlanta skyline from the rooftop
— I usually see security on the premises making rounds
— Paying rent was quick and simple
Cons:
— I did not like that the building was an outdoor breezeway (at least in my wing) I would have much rather preferred that it was enclosed. This may not be a big deal for most people.
— The blind spots in the parking deck drove me crazy. I almost got in countless accidents simply because people drive too fast in the parking deck and you cant see them when they are coming.
— Depending on what floor and unit you are in the walls can be very thin and you can hear everything ! Luckily for me I lived on the top floor and I either had very quiet neighbors or an awesome unit.
— Rent is getting pretty pricey, but then again the location is prime so that is expected.
— For a while the fire alarm was going off at odd times of night. Sometimes multiple times a weekend, and residents had to evacuate until the fire department located the problem which at times took quite a while.
I moved out after my lease was up, and if it wasn’t for the jump in my rent I would have preferred to stay.

Lived here for a few years, HAD to move out. The crime is out of control, constant car break-​ins and theft, and a Murder right in an open hallway on a Wednesday afternoon! My bike was even stolen from one of their «secure, gated areas». Units are passable inside, but noise is constantly an issue and some of the building details are shoddy. Gates are constantly broken — I’ve been locked out of the entire complex more times than I can count. Had to pay almost $ 1000 for a non-​refundable pet fee. Also, they tried to raise the rent over $ 200 a month after living there for just one year! Very corporate driven — no respect for tenants. Plenty of comparable places in Atlanta — do yourself a favor and stay away from this one.

At first I thought this place was great, but after living here for over a year and a half I know otherwise.
Pros:
— Newer building, apartments are generally clean
— Washer/​dryer included
— Covered parking
Cons:
I don’t even know where to start, but here it goes… There have been car break-​ins, even in the gated deck, and management has done little to increase security. There was a shooting here (person died) and management hired additional security for only 2 – 3 days following it. The walls and floors are thin, so I hope you like your neighbor’s music (neighbors to the side, above and below). The leasing office hours are horribly inconvenient for people working 9 – 5 jobs, and they often open late and leave early. That means the simple task of picking up a package can be an enormous pain. Think a pool view balcony is pretty cool? It’s not, unless the agitating shrieks and yells of drunk people using the pool after hours can put you to sleep (and this happens often). Doesn’t matter which room, if you have a pool view balcony, you will hear them and they are loud. Also, I have never had any after hours call to the «on-​call» staff member produce anything but an empty promise, so don’t bother trying to complain about the noise. The gate to the parking deck is routinely broken. Big event going on nearby at The Compound? You can rest assured the gate will be broken the next morning so that club-​goers could get free parking.
There are also two events in particular that highlight why I am so frustrated with this place:
1. Last year (summer 2011), they hosted a pool party at our pool sponsored by some local radio station. All in good fun, except that somehow the music was left on afterwards and it was BLARING (controls were in a locked room). My girlfriend and I personally made several calls to the «on-​call» staff member over the period of an hour (starting around 10:30pm), but like I said, none of those calls ever produce anything but an empty promise. Finally the music stopped after a resident ripped the speaker cables apart.
2. About a month ago my upstairs neighbor set off a fire sprinkler. Pretty soon after, water started pouring out of every orifice of my ceiling and walls. Thankfully I was there to move my personal belongings out of harms way. My friends and I spent pretty much our whole day running around, placing buckets, mopping up water and wringing out towels. Without our action, the apartment would have been much worse off. Gables eventually came in and drilled holes in the ceiling to let the water drain out. For the next month, my apartment looked (and smelled) like a complete wreck. I know this wasn’t Gable’s fault, but they are being compensated by my neighbor’s insurance… where is my compensation for my efforts and having to live in a dump for a month? When I asked, they told me they would not compensate since none of my belongings were damaged. By the way, there was mold growing on the drywall inside one of my closets. When Gables came in to patch up the holes, the mold magically disappeared. They certainly did not replace all the drywall in that closet, so if you are moving here just pray you don’t get my old room! Morale of this story, if you sign a lease agreement with them, they will put you in a choke hold until your lease is up and will not care how unhappy you are.
Oh, and one last thing… the cobblestone entry way is horribly uneven and doing a number on my car’s suspension. Fix that shit!
Edit: They fixed the cobblestone entry way, but I still cannot get out of here fast enough.

Best spot in Atlanta. Awesome Club Lounge. Way awesome pool. A bit pricy on the rent. This is for the young professionals.

Things I’d rather do than live in this apartment complex:
— listen to Kim Kardashian talk about anything
— eat rocky mountain oysters raw
— vacation in Oklahoma
My girlfriend and I moved in on a Friday before the moving company showed up with the rest of our stuff. We locked up and went to a movie. When we came back, the window was wide open and all of our laptops were gone.
Was someone peering through the bushes all day watching us? Maybe. Did our neighbors – who said they were on their porch for a couple of hours while we were gone but didn’t see anything-​take our stuff? Possibly.
I understand this can happen anywhere, but the fact that they wouldn’t return any of the fees we paid or even the rent for that first day (less than 12 hours) trumped that. So, despite having cool-​looking amenities, this place gets one star.
What did the cop have to say about living on the ground level on the corner (Apt. 1214)? «Yeah, it’s unfortunate that you live in a corner unit.»
Magical.

I liked my time there. ammenities are good and the staff is nice. don’t have surround sound because the walls are thin.

During my second year of living in Atlanta, both the roommate I had the year prior and I wanted to live closer to campus. This made our search far smaller when we contacted Mike Myers over at Promove for our search.
After looking at 6 places before Gables (what can I say I am picky about where I live) I fell in love with this place the moment I laid eyes on it.
Property Amenities Include: Saltwater Pool with Aqua Lounge, Movie Screen at the Pool, Nice gym with new equipment, personal tv’s for all of the cardio, and free weights (24 hr). There is also a business center (24 hr), pool table (24 hr), and club lounge (6 am-​10 pm).
Apartment Features: Granite Counter tops, Hardwood floors, Stainless Steel Appliances, wash/​dryer, and a big old garden tub.
I lovvvvved our apartment. We had tons of closet space and an awesome corner view of midtown on the 5^th floor. For this wonderful 2 bed/​2 bath we had a wonderful low rent of $ 1215 a month. The property is a fun, young place and my neighbors were great.
The maintenance staff came by within a day if we had a work request and would even help me carry heavy packages up to my place. The leasing office people were nothing but wonderful and I never had any problems with them.
Neighborhood wise it was great. I could walk to Caryn’s Cakes, Hop City, Nouvelle, Octane, and the rest of the Westside.
Despite all this I entered a new phase of my life when I married my hubby and we wanted a new start with our apartment in a new area. I highly recommend 820 West if you want to find a nice apartment with great features at a great price.
