This place was ok. They burned my potato pancakes but I didn’t say anything because only one side was burnt. My wife liked the huveos rancheros. I had a bite, it was pretty good I agree but I think she liked them more. Nice casual brunch spot. I won’t particularly be in a rush to come back not because it was a bad experience but just because I like going to brunch spots that serve alcohol. Nothing like a bloody mary or mimosa on a Saturday or Sunday early afternoon.

Love this place. Great quality food every time. I love their menu says we’ll make anything you want any way you want it. Never fast, plan to spend time catching up with friends and enjoying your coffee, but don’t miss sweet potato pancakes.

Best breakfast in Atlanta! Cat themed,(hell yes) great coffee, intimate space, open kitchen,(I love watching cooks work) friendly service and fantastic food. I’ve been coming here for about 5 years, and the food was not the best at first, but I stayed for the atmosphere. Since then they’ve come under new ownership, and the food has improved tenfold. They are a tiny restaurant with a tiny staff, so be patient if they’re busy. It’s definitely worth your time. Gato is my go-to

This is my favorite brunch in the city. The fact that Flying Biscuit is across the street and has a line of people that don’t realize their biscuits don’t hold a flame to Gato’s griddles buttered biscuits always tickles me. It’s a classic diner style experience and it just feels like home. Nicholas is the owner and also the man. Truly nice guy that enjoys what he does. He also will dish out some great hole in the wall restaurants around the city of you chat with him for a bit.

You may notice Gato Bizco across the street, when you’re waiting for 2 hours at Flying Biscuit for a table. You may think to yourself«that place is tiny, there isn’t a line, I bet it’s not very good». You would be completely wrong. The food here is absolutely amazing. The place is tiny, and doesn’t seat many people, but what they lack in size, the food makes up for in taste. Everything is made fresh to order, the staff is friendly, and they usually have some pretty rockin tunes playing over the speakers. Plus, their biscuits blow away what the competition across the street tries to pass off as being acceptable, while having it in their name.

Sat at the bar with my friend expecting a quick breakfast before she left Atlanta. Ended up waiting an hour and fifteen minutes for two honestly very mediocre omelettes, potatoes and toast. The kitchen space is small, but the seating is small as well and for breakfast food with only three tickets before ours the wait was completely unacceptable. The cook was a nice guy and it was enjoyable watching him prepare everything, but he took his time with everything and was just too slow to be the only person preparing food. At least he apologized by the end of it. The only other employee served all of the tables and bar, and she is the reason this review is only one star. She was inattentive and visibly annoyed when we were ordering and asking about the food and also during the one time we tried to strike up conversation when she wasn’t busy. In a different scenario, this might have been less of an issue. However, where a holier-than-thou attitude as a server is already pushing it, maintaining it after the people you’re serving have waited that long ridiculous. On top of that, she chose to charge us for coffee she served us on accident when we first sat down. All in all the dynamic of this restaurant might work with different employees, but as it stands this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had eating out in my life. As a final note, a cherry on top really, the air vents above the stove must be old or need a new filter because my shirt smelled like smoke and bacon grease walking out of there.

My girlfriend took me her cause it’s in her neighborhood and I fell in love with it, I got a omelette made as a scramble can’t remember but the one with basil and it was amazing. Bacon cooked perfect eggs cooked perfect wonderful fresh strained oj. Just know it will take a while it’s great for dates for brunch or breakfast

This place is unique. I love the atmosphere and anyone standing in line at Flying Biscuit is missing out. They have cool theme nights and you can BYOB from Candler Park Market.

After living so close for over a year, I finally got to try out Gato, and I understand the fuss. This place is cool, divey, and delicious! Got the huevos rancheros, which was fabulous. Sweet potato pancake — to die for! No high chairs though and slightly slower service. Very small footprint too, so I may save this dining experience for times I’m sans bambino.

The only thing that is keeping me from 5 stars for food & service is the exhaust system in there. My eyes were burning and I hurried to eat so I could breathe! At least open the door. The system needs to be repaired or replaced.

Creative Loafing gets it wrong… Gato has the best biscuit in Atlanta. As a biscuit specialist(aka 100% southern), the biscuits at Gato can’t be missed. They are warm, and placed on a hot griddle before served with your choice of jelly, honey or butter. Vegetarian gravy = not a fan. Brunched here a couple times and since it is a small hole in the wall type establishment, it seats only a couple people. The interior is decorated with pictures of cats, which is creepy but cool. My boo had the slom, and it was better than I’ve ever imagined. Eggs, bacon, cilantro sauce, japs, and duck confit potatoes. Simply amazing. Skip the line across the street at the flying biscuit and laugh when you are done eating as they sit down.

We were very excited to find Gato was open for brunch on July 4 this year. My brother and I met up for a lazy holiday and thought trying something something new(my favorite) combined with brunch(his favorite) was the way to go. Gato’s been on my list awhile, although I still of course want to try Eat Me Speak Me for dinner. I actually think it is somehow possible that I’ve never been to the Candler Park area before, either that, or I just hadn’t been on this strip. But either way, it was very cute, very walkable, and I loved it. Plenty of street parking all around the area, of course it was a holiday so that might not be the case on a normal weekend when most people aren’t at BBQs. It’s basically a small, divey, diner inside and seating is first come, first served. We came about 1pm and easily snagged one of the 3 – 4 booths. In addition to that, there is bar seating.(No actual alcohol, though, just diner bar seating). Service was a tad slow but it was just three guys running the kitchen, serving, and register, so I really can’t complain. Everything is made hot and fresh right while you’re sitting there which was very nice also. My brother had the breakfast burrito, and I tried the huevos rancheros. Everything was perfectly hot, and mine came with both a green and a red salsa that had a nice flavor all combined. I also really appreciated that their sour cream was real sour cream and not that awful stuff they squirt on sometimes. :shudders: The over easy egg was also perfectly well done and had a great texture. Everything was very good, but nothing blew me away hence the three star review. I would go again if I were in the area, but I don’t think I would seek it out.

Gato is one of those places I forget about and when I remember, wonder why I don’t go as often. I’ve only been twice for brunch but have enjoyed both meals. Small, unassuming place with a lot of cat memorabilia. Friendly service, quick and simple meals done well. I enjoy being able to see the chef cook while sitting at the counter. Pancakes remind me of childhood. The tofu scramble is delicious. Yes, the tofu is delicious. I’m looking forward to trying more and possibly their pop-up dinners. Skip the lines and wait at the place across the street(TFB) and try Gato.

We went to the Eat Me Speak Me pop up this week and it did not disappoint. We showed up at 7 and were worried about the wait as seating is limited. Luckily, we got a table with no wait. It’s currently BYOB so don’t forget to bring booze. There is a corner market right beside the place that sells a good selection of wine. No corcage fee either! The food was awesome. I was very surprised at the price point of the food. Incredibly reasonable. Portions are on the smaller end but that fits the menu: you are encouraged to try a bunch of things. The pork cheek tacos were amazing and we had to get another order since they were so good. The theme is all over the place including Japanese and southern influence. I think it works well overall. Great experience overall. Service was wonderful.

This review is for Eat Me Speak Me, the Fri-Sun Pop up. Despite getting there before it opened(7p), we waited about an hour for a seat– well worth it, and the coffee mugs the staff brought out for us to drink from. It is BYOB(love!), and Candler Park Market next door has a good selection to bring from. Once we got in(nicely toasted), we chose the $ 25 chef’s tasting(extra love!!) — possibly the most underpriced meal I have ever had. The food was amazing. The plating was perfect. The chef and waiter were working their butts off, but were still pleasant, offered suggestions, and explained things. Seriously, ignoring the value this meal was, the food was nuanced, delicious, equally subtle and powerful, and worked well together as a meal. I cannot wait to go back. I will happily wait another hour, as long as those coffee mugs are available.

«Screw Bacchanalia, Eat me Speak me is where it’s at” — Me, having gone here three days after my Bacchanalia debut, a little buzzed on BYOB wine and overheard by our server, who walked in mid statement. Nothing says hipster ATL foodie more than this place, and I say this in the most positive way it could be. There’s something raw and exciting about this young chef and his two trusty server/sous/sidekick/bffs. Order the omakaze. Or just tacos. Or the fish dish, whatever it is for the day. but whatever you do, don’t miss the blondie.

Having walked by this place for years but never stopping in, I decided to give their weekday breakfast menu a whirl when I found myself hungry AND when I found a parking space that was just perfect. Score! My trip was great! Setting — The restaurant is a bit dark, somewhat small and a lot diner-ishy with cat stuff everywhere. If you’re looking for corporate staleness then you might want to try elsewhere. Seating is primarily old booths with a few counter stools right near the grill. I chose the latter so I could perch and watch things being cooked right in front of me. There isn’t outdoor seating that I can remember but you can watch people stroll by via the big windows. Food — Goodness, you get a lot of food here! While some of the fixings are obviously not organic or top notch, it’s just stick-to-your-ribs good cooking. Omelettes are more crêpe than fluff, which is my preference on the VERY rare times I get to eat them. Then they can take that omelette and stuff it into a quesadilla! WHATTHEHELL? Ya’ll, it was so good and I think I got 3 meals out of that thing. Coffee is good and strong, so says my partner. Don’t ask for stevia or raw sugar. It ain’t that kind of place. People — Everyone working there was helpful and nice. Don’t expect effusive fake service. I appreciate eye contact and someone asking if everything is ok, and I got both of those things from numerous people. Everyone seemed to work well together and quickly too! Seemed like a lot of regulars there at the counter with me and I could tell the people working there liked talking with them. Downer — It is a bit on the grungy side without feeling too icky. More like little things overlooked and not dusted/cleaned for a time. Bathroom was guh-ross on a slow morning so I can only imagine how it gets when it’s busy. I’d definitely come back for a visit and to try out the dinner menu.

I didn’t get a chance to try the food bc the server refused to serve me stating they were closed when it was 3 mins to closing time, the opensign wasstill on, and it was full of customers. It was rude and embarrassing. Will not be trying this place again and will spread the word. Thank goodness Josh @ the flying biscuit bakery took care of me!

Sigh… I left hungry. I came for the weekend dinner Eat Me Speak Me pop-up… more like I wandered into it. I know all about EMSM though! 1. I expected ramen. Be warned, they do not do ramen anymore, according to the waiter. The pictures are old then? 2. Why is there no website telling me what you DO serve? I expected ramen, didn’t get ramen. I walked into the EMSM pop-up, which was good. But I STILL do not know what Gato serves. Maybe I’ll write a new review when I finally experience what they really do here. 3. EMSM: Great food, excellent preparation, but not enough of it. They call it «Tapas,» but there’s maybe a bite and a half to each dish. I paid $ 9 for a chicken drumstick. The menu is short, so there isn’t enough for you to order to feel full either. Anyways, we ordered most of the dishes on the menu, then swung by and grabbed some extra take out. Overall, an unexpectedly expensive«two» dinners.

This review is specifically for Gato Arigato. I’ve always hated ramen & haven’t had it since I was a little kid, so I always avoided it at all costs. A friend recommended this restaurant, and I hesitated, but decided to see what all the fuss was about. The ramen was delicious, smooth, & authentic. I ordered the vegetarian ramen with a soft boiled egg, edamame, roasted corn, & fried seaweed chips. It sounded like an unusual combination, but my first bite made me want to cry over the years I had lost. Our waitress was super sweet and came by multiple times to make sure we were doing okay and to refill our water. I came around 6:30PM on a weeknight and didn’t have to wait at all, despite the limited seating. Though, by the time I headed out, there were at least 8 people waiting for a table. It’s a teeny establishment. Very hipster… and um, kind of dingy? The age of my chopsticks showed through the chipped surface. But the food was amazing, and I think the dimmed lights helped me focus more on what instead of where I was eating. Cool menus, cheap, yummy. I came in peeved because finding a parking spot is lame here, but good food makes me forget about things, including where I parked.

Just to be clear, this review is for brunch at Gato Bizco as I hope Gato Arigato is light-years better than what I experienced. The restaurant is filthy. I do not have a problem with a restaurant’s décor not being updated or modern. The seats to the leather booths here have been torn up years ago. That is not a problem. But everything feels like it has been coated in aerosolized oil and has never been cleaned. The magazines and books feel tacky. The floor is filthy. Black grime builds up in the corners and dirt and lids to jelly packets are stuck to the floor. When I crossed my legs in the booth, I was unpleasantly surprised to get god-knows-how-old mayonnaise(I hope it was mayonnaise) stuck to my knee. That then prompted a trip to the bathroom which was just as unclean as the restaurant. The food was very very underwhelming. I am stunned to hear all of the four and five star reviews for their brunch, especially the ones that say it is better than Flying Biscuit. I had the huevos rancheros. Scrambled eggs with flavorless shredded cheese in a flavorless tortilla with flavorless salsa. Black beans as good as canned. I ate it because I was hungry. The grits were just ground up cornmeal. Undersalted/underbuttered/undercheesed. If you want to wait 45 minutes for a good brunch, don’t do it here. Go across the street.

Gato, gato, ari-gato. Being a Shiba inu, this joint wasn’t my thing. It was too wannabe cat friendly. I’m anti-cat. That said, I came here to eat their Japanese pancake thing, Okonomi Yaki. That was utsökt(oishii, delicious). However, their cold ramen was salty as cat saliva. So salty I was drinking my weight in water and vodka(bring your own beverage was nice) then visiting the bathroom to relive my overworked kidneys. Nonetheless, friendly waitress and cool cooks, err, chefs. I’d come back here for the pancakes but not for the noodles. Apparently they serve breakfast here, and it is supposedly good. I’ll have to check out their breakfast one of these days. Be a hipster and jog or ride your bicycle here. Looking for parking can be hell.
